I've heard this too. I actually posted this some time ago on section39 as well.
Found my post - " had a friend from Chicago, also a die-hard Cubs fan, who was fresh out of law-school, working with his father at their fledgling sports agency business. He and his old man didn't represent anyone big...their biggest clients were a few Padres prospects who were expected to make it as major leaguers. However they did claim to have some connection to the inside gossip that is tossed about in the major leagues. When I expressed my dismay, back then, about Girardi leaving the Yanks, joining the Cubs, he told me that amongst players Girardi is considered to be almost like "The Teacher's Pet" - the guy who kisses asses of management even to the detriment of his relationships with fellow players...and word was that not a lot of Yankees were all that broken up about him leaving.
I have NO CLUE as to how valid or invalid this claim was...but like a lot of hearsay, sometimes those things stick in your head and help form your opinion of someone...so no, no matter how much I'd like to like Girardi, every time I see his face I have that thought in the back of my mind, wondering how true the aforementioned hearsay may be."

David Wells cleared waivers, Boston is actively looking to unload him. Any possibility AT ALL that this guy could help the Yankees?
He's apparently healthy (of course, when talking about David Wells, health is a relative term).
Would he even be eligible for the post-season roster of any other team that may pick him up?
Also, what could the Yankees possibly be willing to give up for this guy, even if there was some slight interest? I don't know...just throwing this crap (which is probably what this post amounts to) out there.

Why would Boston do anything to help NY? To be post-season eligible, we'd have to get him on the team by Thursday.

It may be a case similar to a few years ago, when Boston was SO eager to rid themselves of Manny, that they'd give him away for some stones and trinkets, to ANYONE. I don't know that...just sayin'

That was in the offseason. Picture this--the Yankees somehow get Wells, and he does WELL in the playoffs. All to save one month's salary? Boston would look ridiculous.

First off, the Red Sox wont be doing business with the Yankees. Secondly, the Yankees do not need him. They are just about a playoff lock. And they only need 3 starters, 4 at most, for playoff action. So there would not be a slot for him if you go with Mussina, Wang, and Johnson, to name 3. Let him fester on the vine.

Tom, Jw, Balls - I can't recall - can any of you tell me when the last time there was a straight-up 2- team-only trade between the Yankees and the Red Sox (at least one of any significance)?

We traded with them in 1997 to get Mike Stanley back. That's just off the top of my head.

If the Yankees and Mets win today, The Mets will have the best record in baseball.

Wow, I didn't realize the Mets had closed the gap that quickly on Detroit. Good call.

The Mets are a good team....don't get me wrong.....they may have the best record in baseball....but they're not the best team.
I think the White Sox are better

I think the White Sox are better on paper, but until their pitching straightens itself out, they are what they are.
This year, more than ever, there are no clear favorites.

The Mets are a good team, but they're still a National League team.
Heard a very interesting stat this morning, that sorta sums up this point. The Red Sox went 16-2 in interleague play. Without the interleague wins, the Red Sox are sub .500. Sub .500 against the American League, yet they absolutely dominated the National League AND swept the Mets.

I just made my first trip to the Jake last week. Great stadium. It's amazing at how much fun fans have during the games at other ballparks. They do all these games and fun stuff in between innings. At Yankee Stadium they do that stupid game, "Can you tell me what numbers is Jorge Posada behind?" Don't get me wrong. I have fun at Yankee games but everyone's attention is just at the matter at hand, the game. Hopefully, they make the new stadium a bit more fan friendly and more of an open air feel to it.

Personally I could do without in-between inning scoreboard games and such.
The Kiss-Cam in Anaheim is getting particularly old and stale. Oh wait, they put the Kiss-Cam on two of the players in the dugout...Ohh HAHAHA...never saw THAT before!

Unfortunately, it seems that the new stadium will be the type where everyone's attention is on everything BUT the game. Also, the open air feel will be found across the street.

It is a shame. I don't think a lot of these people realize that baseball in NY is not the same as baseball everywhere else.

Again, you fools can whine all you want. Fact is, every seat in that Stadium will be sold for a decade or more. There are many people who want what the new Stadium has to offer.

Actually, no one gives a crap about the new Stadium. With 6000 less seats, the attendance will actually drop. It's not as hard to sell a seat out when you have less seats to sell. If anything, a new stadium should have ADDED 6000 seats. And they'd STILL be selling out. Even if you buy into the crap that people outside the Yankees and politicians want this, they could build that stadium, put in all the stupid shit they want, and ADD seats. It's just beyond stupid.

Sorry, but NO team needs a micromanager. Young teams actually flourish with young managers who are as carefree as them and break down when they are whipped around.

So, on the radio this morning I heard that Delmon Young was hit on the first pitch he faced last night, then later hit one out.
Something tells me Delmon hasn't seen the last of the intentional beanings.

The Dodgers have inquired about David Wells. The Red Sox are asking for minor league prospect (who has had 122 ABs with the Dodgers this year) Matt Kemp.

Kemp has a very bright future. No chance the Dodgers give him up. Do minor leaguers also have to pass thru waivers?

San Diego is the current front runner to land Wells. This is like watching The Big Show go from face to heel to face to heel to face to heel over a couple of months. Didn't he demand a trade while with San Diego not long ago? Only to go to Boston, and demand to be traded by Boston? Boston has set their sights on AAA catcher George Kottaras, who must be one hell of a defensive catcher, as he's hitting .233 with 2 HR's and 13 RBI's.

Did you like it when they put you on the Kiss Cam and Rex Hudler drew a penis next to you? I thought that was pretty clever.
