Looks like Liriano's injury may not be as bad as feared. From ESPN.com:
Minnesota Twins fans can relax a little bit for the moment. Francisco Liriano's MRI shows no new structural damage to his left elbow, two sources told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Excoriating himself as he came off the field after retiring L.A. in the first inning, with the Padres still leading 4-1, Jake Peavy heard Mariano Duncan's voice as the coach ran behind him toward the Dodgers dugout. “He said, 'We're gonna get your (expletive), you stupid cocky (expletive),' ” said Peavy. “That's it, verbatim, with that little Dominican twang. I didn't even know who the guy was. But that's one classless individual . . . “I'd love for him to come to San Diego Fight Club, where we train sometimes, so we can settle it there.”

Apparently if it was not for Padre Russ Branyon stepping in the middle there, they would have went at it. Both teams sauntered onto the field regardless. We almost had quite the rhubarb.

The back-to-back-to-back-to-back HRs from the Dodgers last night made me think of the last time the Padres were in Yankee Stadium.
Didn't the Yankees also come back on the Padres with back-to-back HRs in the 9th off Hoffman? I knew Lofton hit one...can't remember who hit the other.

The two San Francisco Chronicle reporters who broke the grand jury testimony story, Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada, were sentenced to 18 months in prison. What an utter, complete crock of shit.

To revisit the Girardi stuff from a couple of weeks back, despite the gumption the team showed this year with him at the helm, there is said to be "zero" chance of him coming back, according to insiders around the team. He is just that despised by people, from his own players that are winning for him, to the suits that employ him.
To that end, The Marlins are already compiling information about Joe Girardi's successor, with a trio of third-base coaches likely to receive interviews: Fredi Gonzalez (Braves), Joey Cora (White Sox) and Manny Acta (Mets). Other possible candidates to replace Girardi include Triple-A Albuquerque manager Dean Treanor, Japanese League manager Trey Hillman, Braves special assistant Jim Fregosi, Cardinals third base coach Jose Oquendo, Mets bench coach Jerry Manuel and Marlins broadcaster Cookie Rojas, although Rojas is more likely to fill a coaching role.

Is Girardi going to be offered another managers job or will he wind up being a bench coach somewhere?

He wont be offered another managers job, for the same reasons he is losing this one. There is a pretty big pipeline out there, I am sure his rep is sullied. Someone will give him a gratiuotous coaching position, but from everything I am reading about him you wont be seeing him managing another major league team.

That's amazing to me. The Marlins' results show that he IS a good manager. I'm sure people will try to come up with other reasons the Marlins won, but Girardi has to get some credit for this overachieving team.
Obviously, the reasons he's being canned are important, but the man has proven he can do a good managing job.

Do a Google search and you can find stories from around the baseball landscape quoting all kinds of sources about how Girardi is impossible to deal with.
YES, he does deserve some credit for helping the Marlins along. However, the Marlin prospects are doing what a lot of people projected them to do, some of those kids are the real deal. And, this said, for all he HAS done, lets sprinkle he and the team with holy water, the damn club is under .500.
You have a manager that alienates his players, fights with his owner, and does not get along with the media. They cant get him out of town fast enough, and he's damaged goods.
And its not like his team won the World Series this year. Lets get a grip here.

So said a few people sitting around typing up preview issues before this season. More valid sources had the Marlins winning 70-75 games. They are right around there.
Stop with the conjecture. Obviously Girardi did SOMETHING wrong. Let him go, stop sucking him off cause he was a Yankee already.

yes BUT their teams payroll is that of gary sheffield and their average player age has to be around 24 or 25... and they have less than 5 guys on their team who have a full season under their belt..
Loria was the one who was out of line for arguing with the Umpire during the game.. sure its his team but they guy has NO right doing that.. if George did that to Joe you really think Joe wouldnt say anything.. as for the media thing i really havent heard much, but id have to say if you are getting asked 10x's aday if your getting fired at the end of the season in the middle of a pennant race..id be an asshole too

Even when Girardi was here in New York there were murmerings that he was an A-hole. Its nothing new. You guys got to stop canonizing a guy simply cause he wore a Yankee uniform. Its sorta gay.
This sniping with the media started all the way back in spring training. Girardi lacks "people skills" from what I read. He is aloof. Its nice to give him all the credit for what the Marlins accomplished, but at some point the team has to be given some as well.
The stories about Girardi are out there - feel free to look for them. Dont just listen to me. He won't be back at the helm of a major league club.

It seems more like you are DEMONIZING him because he wore a Yankee uniform, which is more gay.
The bottom line is that Girardi led that team to overachieve. He obviously knows how to manage a team.
It's better to have a guy with no people skills that wins, than a media/owner/player friendly guy who loses.

Maybe that has to do more with the crappy NL, but still doesn't change that this team shouldn't be a .500 ballclub.
Says who? YOU? Look at some of the arms on that staff. Look at the stats some of these guys are putting up...Girardi is not throwing the fastballs or swinging the bats for them. Its funny, all you dickscucking Yankee marks think the manager is the most important thing in and around the game cause Joe Torre is able to sleepwalk and hand the Yankees the division 9 years in a row (the payroll has NOTHING to do with it...) yet even legendary managers like Sparky Anderson and Tom Lasorda admit, at most, a GREAT manager probably gives a team 3-5 more wins a year. Its the TEAM, morons.

Tom is right. He's got good players, better than most thought, and payroll does have nothing to do with it. I also wouldn't be surprised if ozzie guillen gets canned by the sux.

So Nick Johnson has this busted femur and all. I was talking to my aunt, who is a nurse, and the "talk of the hospital" is that someone his age should NOT crack a femur in that sort of collision in any circumstance. In the worse case, the docs speculated the young man has bone cancer (unlikely) or steroid issues (you do the math)
Before you pooh pooh all this, think about the conditions needed to break a femur. Some people hit walls at 100 MPH and dont do that.

That's a little scary if it's cancer-related, but I really wonder just how high the percentage is of MLB players who have at least dabbled in the stuff.

Balls, thats classless, especially coming from the likes of you. You have been touting that guy since he left the Yankees, and there are your key words - he was a YANKEE. And here you are laughing it up cause a guy in his 20's may have not only lost his career, but full mobilty in his leg.
All to go for the cheap joke that wont make anyone laugh.
You should stop and think before you type sometimes.

Good morning Tom!
You need to look at the bright side. He still has 2 balls, unlike Mike Lowell.
And maybe he could find a second career in ass kicking contests.
