No one said he wasn't a good pitcher, but that he will be hitting his decline. It has already started. That doesn't mean he can't pitch. He's just not as dominant as he was.
But hey, take a pitcher starting to decline, and move him to a pitcher's park and easier competition, and he'll do better. See Clemens, Roger.

How much longer until you realize that a 7 year contract can't be judged in the first year?
Stay tuned...

Whether a pitcher wins or loses also depends on the offense--a concept Tom still doesn't get.

LOL @ the Mets. I hope they are enjoying their ceremony. Way to schedule it for AFTER the game.
Could not have written this any better. I was watching the Brewer game, with the Mutts on in pic in pic. It was just about 5 minutes after the Marlin back to backs that Braun launched his two run dingy that put the Brewers into the playoffs.
Loved the maudlin atmosphere at Shea and in the booth. Guys like Hernandez and Mazilli during the postgame were very grumpy. Fun fun!

It was hysterical, and the closing ceremonies were even funnier.
Yankees Intro: This guy has 2 MVPs, is a HOFer, and has 6 rings in his great career... Mets Intro: This guy was an all star once, and hit 2 triples in the same game!!!...
And holy shit--the end of the ceremony when they were touching homeplate?
Highlighted by the fact that Yogi Berra did NOT touch the plate.

Probably one of the more fun games I've ever watched. The frustrated boos when they Brewers score hit the scoreboard was awesome.

Yogi Berra AND Willie Mays were there. Not really surprising, given that one managed the team to a pennant and the other finished his career there and meant more to NY NL baseball than anyone currently alive.
Johan Santana had knee surgery today. Hope this is the start of something chronic for him.

"Hope this is the start of something chronic for him."
Why, so you're predictions about him being on the decline might start to become true? Because you certainly were WAY off the mark this year.

If anything this problem with his knee speaks even better of him. Talk about gutting it out. Balls, sorry to spoil your wet dream, but by all accounts this is minor wear and tear. Id spend more time worrying about the rumors about Joba's balky SHOULDER than Santana's KNEE.

A torn meniscus is not minor wear and tear. No surgery is.
I was not way off about his decline. Stats improve in the NL, and he was already dominating less. Higher WHIP means he's more hittable. Great he dominated the Marlins in the last week--but he still is not what he was in Minnesota, and nothing would make me happier than to see his career go in the toilet.

Not sure why this was buried on page 16 of todays paper, but whatever. Mutts reliever Ambiorix Burgos is wanted for a hit-and-run accident that killed 2 people back at home in the Dominican. The crash happened Tuesday night. Burgos apparently slammed their car with his Hummer and drove off.
Burgos is a real dick. He was already in heat for assaulting his girlfriend in a Queens hotel.

Actually A torn meniscus is a bit of wear and tear. My mom had a torn meniscus. She's fine now. She's in her 60's. Santana will be fine. Let's hope the Mets bullpen stays not fine. LOL!

A torn meniscus is more than wear and tear, and your mom is not a professional athlete. The only way to truly fix it is with surgery and/or lots of physical therapy. A lot depends on how bad the tear is.

Dude, you though the bone chip surgery he had was major, and you said it was a red flag, even though he went on to become the best pitcher in Baseball after it.
Give it up already.

So the Mets look to have stepped in shit this offseason, needing a closer in a year where there are a bunch of closers on the market, and the Mets are the only big market team in need. They already lowballed KRod with a 2 year offer for $24 million. They have the bargainning power. Where are these guys going to go?

The Mets are actually doing a smart thing. Minaya and company have made different offers to all the guys they would accept as their closer, and he pretty much said "first guy who agrees to the money, gets the contract."
Genius. He admitted he does not care which of the bunch he waved money at closes for the team, he would accept any of them. So yeah, the closers have a problem, cause there are no teams to play against one another, and the big money won't be there. So while the Mets nickel and dime closers, the Yankees are trying to smother Sabathia with nearly 200 million dollars. Yankees could take a lesson from the Mets, it seems.

It's not like Minaya is inventing the concept. The Yankees did the same thing a few years ago with Stanton, Quantrill and Hammond.
You really don't get the concept of supply and demand. If there were several different starters like Sabathia out there, and the Yankees were the only team in need, it would be easy.
There are no other big market teams that are in the market for a closer. It's not that hard to grasp why the Mets can lowball.

2 years at 12 million per is NOT lowballing in terms of K-Rod.
It is widely regarded that, despite the phenomenal season he just racked up, he is losing his stuff pretty rapidly, and even within his successful saves he has a penchant for lacking control.
Frankly, as much as I love Mariano, K-Rod is pretty definitive proof that a one-inning pitcher who primarily starts with a lead and no runners on base isn't the most difficult job in baseball.
