K-Rod to Mets -- 3 years, 37 mill.
Good move for the Mets as they need a closer, and now they have the best there is (statistically) at this moment.
Might be too much money and too long....as stated, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that his "stuff" is deteriorating....but the Mets were pretty much handcuffed in this aspect.

Given his age and the kinds of deals closers usually get (see BJ Ryan), this is a great deal for the Mets and a terrible deal for KRod. He was expecting twice that, and managed to get himself free in a year where there was no competition for his services.
The Mets stepped in shit, and couldn't have done this any better.
I hope K-Rod tanks.

One question I have is--why would the Angels let KRod go? The offer he got from the Mets was just 3 million more than what the Angels offered him in spring training.

Because the Angels are the ones who have been saying that he is losing his stuff.

His numbers certainly don't show that.

mets now on the verge of trading for j.j. putz from seattle in 3 team trade. putz would be k-rods setup man MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince says the three teams "appear to be on the verge" of a deal. He says that if the deal goes through the Mariners would get Gutierrez and the Indians would get Joe Smith and Mariners prospect Luis Valbuena. Heilman and Jeremy Reed would also be involved in some capacity.

It's been talked about quite a bit
as i wrote last week, this is a bit of a red flag to me, since the Angels have the money to bring him back…and so, when a team with money turns its back on one of its own a player, a player they know better than any other team in the league, it raises my eyebrows…or, they’re just playing coy with the market…
And I came across this stat just out of curiosity: Rodriguez registered 1-2-3 frames in a career-low 29.2 percent of his innings (all figures courtesy of Elias). That ranked 151st out of 253 pitchers who worked at least 60 innings in 2008. Fuentes (41.3) was 13th, Wood (38.1) was 28th, Street (38.0), even with diminished stuff, was 29th, and another free agent, Brandon Lyon (37.7) was 31st.
Rodriguez's stuff is not as electric as in the past, possibly because his high-effort delivery has robbed some life from his arm, though he is just 26. The Mets could wonder if the lack of clean 1-2-3 innings will continue to grow with age now, and if Rodriguez loses more stuff, will he be able to extract himself from difficulty with the same excellence?

update to the rumor'd 3way deal Under terms of the deal, the Mets would get Putz, outfielder Jeremy Reed and reliever Sean Green. The Mariners would receive reliever Aaron Heilman, outfielder Endy Chavez and first baseman Mike Carp from the Mets. They'd also get Franklin Gutierrez from the Indians and minor leaguers. The Indians would get reliever Joe Smith from the Mets and infielder Luis Valbuena from Seattle.

If there's any truth to this, the Mets would be dopes to not make this deal.

Done deal.
Putz setting up for K-Rod.
Hey Yankees....take note....THAT'S how you address a need on the field.
Don't like now, but the Met's just might have shut the door on games they lead after 6 or 7 innings.

If everyone stays healthy, the Mets may have just put themselves up there with the Cubs and Phils atop the NL as a LEGIT World Series contender.

No doubt, but Putz had a down year and an unhealthy one. More often than not, relievers have short shelf lives. Not everyone is Mo. I don't believe KRod will fail, but Putz isn't a slam dunk. That said, it's a hell of a move for the Mets, and nice of the other teams to take their shit to give them their needs.

Loved Minaya's sound byte from ESPN last night.
"Well, Mets Fans...we've addressed the bullpen...by singing Mr. Putz" (and he pronounced it Puhhtz, and not the Pootz pronunciation that JJ prefers)

Funny, Omar talking about "Putzes" and "Getting your morning Bagels"
Why didn't he just come right out and say, "Are all you Elmhurst Jews happy now???"

Tim Redding to the Mutts, one year deal, as expected the last week or so. Whose friend is this again, Cho's?

Big question will he go in the hall as a Yankee or Met?

Well, if he wins a game as a Mutt, he'll exceed his Yankee total.

Read an interesting factoid in the POST yesterday - Tim Redding's godmother was Joyce Rudolph of Honeymooners fame. They are related in some such.

I thought it was Joyce Randolph (not saying that to be a douche, just wondering if I'm wrong)?
As for TampaYanks, JW is right. He was a bonehead.

Kinda like the opposite of you, Domi .... one of my favoRITE posters, who has likewise faded into the sunset. Whatever the opposite of good riddance is.
