Not as bad as Rafael Palmeiro winning for playing less than 20 games in the field one year, but still awful.
Chipper Jones? Hell, even Aramis Ramirez deserved it more, if you want guys that can hit winning it, as it seems is necessary anymore.

I'm being honest....and it has nothing to do with me being a 'baseball snob." - Fact is, I could care less about the Gold Glove, and never look at it, think about it, respect it, care about it. Its as meaningless as it gets. Over time, to me at least, its become a joke.

Thank Palmeiro.

Actually, thank Ozzie Guillen and his win over Cal Ripken, Jr. in 1990. Palmiero only solidified how stupid the award was 9 seasons later.
Guillen played in 159 games and had 17 errors, while Cal played 161 games and had 3 errors.

I guess you have a point. That's a travesty. But I still say Palmeiro killed the award.

Palmiero did not kill the award. The people who voted for him killed the award.

Apparently the Mets are making a serious run at Torrealba from the Rockies.

I guess this is why I was asking in the first place...LOL
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Chipper Jones is a bit baffled by David Wright winning the NL Gold Glove.
"When I find out [Wright won] I was speechless, for quite some time," Jones said. "Certainly the guys with the least amount of errors and best fielding percentage quite obviously didn't win it."The report also quoted Jones as saying, "I wouldn't have been disappointed had someone like [Pedro] Feliz or [Aramis] Ramirez won it. I'm a little confused by the final tally - that's a head-scratcher for me."

Holy crap. I just looked up the number of errors David Wright made. Honestly, why even have the Gold Glove anymore when it is such a joke?

Seems that the Mutts got tired of seeing Paul LoDuca on Page 6, out in the discos chasing 18 year old girls.

Not so fast. Despite being ready to go, the deal magically broke down today, and is dead. www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spmets1117aa,0,6599370.story I wonder if Torrealba will go into the HOF as a Met.

Not a bad stick but a bit of a defensive liability I believe...

What? You don't find value in a middle reliever with an ERA over 5.70 and a history of steroid use?

Estrada was a problem. It was pretty well known, especially after he had that fight with his manager in the dugout. So this really isn't a surprise. The Mets got a steal, though.

And yet another latino.
LoDuca must really be considered a liability, with all the effort the Mutts put in to replacing him.

Maybe they can sneak a Latino into the radio booth - Tom McCarthy is heading south.
PHILADELPHIA -- A familiar voice returned to the Phillies' broadcasting team, when the team announced the return of Tom McCarthy.
McCarthy worked for the Phillies from 2001-05 before spending the past two seasons as a play-by-play announcer for the National League rival New York Mets on WFAN. He signed a five-year deal to return to Philadelphia, announced Rob Brooks, manager, broadcasting on Tuesday.
"We are thrilled that we can bring him back to work on our telecasts," Brooks said in a statement, adding that McCarthy will do play-by-play for three innings when Hall of Famer Harry Kalas isn't on television.
Kalas still will provide play-by-play for six innings on TV and do the fourth inning on radio.
Scott Franzke, Larry Andersen, Chris Wheeler, Gary Matthews and Jim Jackson all will return for the 2008 season.
McCarthy also has served as the play-by-play announcer for the Double-A Trenton Thunder for six seasons. He also broadcasts Princeton University football and basketball, Rutgers University football and St. Joseph's University women's basketball. He's currently doing St. Joseph's University men's basketball

Jeez...do the Phillies have enough announcers? I mean, it's not like they have their own network or anything.
And if Tom McCarthy does Rutgers football, what station is he on? Because all I hear is the awful Chris Carlin, who just might be the worst play-by-play man I have ever heard, and that includes Suzyn Waldman.

The Mets have just traded Milledge to the Nats for Brian Schneider and Ryan Church

Interesting. I wish there was some sort of record for potential trades that the Mets didn't make for Milledge and how those names compare to Schneider and Church.
