I'm hoping Oakland takes 2 games against the Twins and the Yanks sweep. For the Yanks to win in 4, Jaret Wright has to actually pitch well in a playoff game.
I'm confident Randy Johnson will get shelled. I expect it. If he doesn't, that will be a bonus.
I would be surprised if the Mets need 5 games to get by the Dodgers, Pedro or no Pedro.
I couldn't care less about the Pads/Cards because they are only playing for the right to lose in the LCS.

Well, The Mets backed in, and LA was fighting until the end. Stuff like that carries over, so I expect them to drop the first game and the NY media to freak out.
and I care about the Pads/Cards, because as much as I love Pujols, I'm sick of Larussa and everyone else on that team. I'm a fan of Bruce Bochy. He needs to bring the Rick Rude mustache back.

True, but sometimes fighting to the end doesn't mean much. Usually the cream rises to the top. The Mets ARE the best team in the NL--by far. It would be a MAJOR upset for them to lose. I really can't think of another year where an entire league could only produce one team that was above average. I wouldn't say the Mets backed in. I think they just didn't have a meaningful game.
It's not like they lost almost every game in September like the 2000 Yanks.
That said, I would LOVE the Mets to lose to LA. James called it. Let's hope he's right.
Bruce Bochy was kind of weird though. The way only one of his eyes would blink creeped me out.
If you want a cool mustache, it's all about Sal Fassano.

Yanks in 4 Twins in 4 Cards in 3 Dodgers in 5
I think Minnys pitching is too good for Oakland, the Tigers got their ass handed to them by the Yanks, I wanted to say sweep but maybe the Tigers can sneak out one win. Cardinals are going to roll over the Padres and the Mets are too banged up and fucked up in the head. They'll make it close but LA pulls put the upset and all the met fans can go cry. I will laugh.

I do hope you're right about the Mets, but I don't see it. Remember, Pedro wasn't really a factor in their domination of the league. They haven't had to play a meaningful game in awhile. So their play in the last couple of weeks really isn't something I'd use as an argument.
But I admit, I'd love to see the Dodgers advance to the LCS.
The Yanks own the Tigers, but that's not a guarantee. But that said, I do think the Yanks are the better team, and should take that series.
Hopefully Oakland will put up a battle against the Twins. I really want that series to go 5 games. Let them burn Santana twice.
Cards in 3? They are ice cold.

Cards are lucky to be in the playoffs, nonethe less sweeping a team who has a better staff than them.
And don't sleep on the Dodgers rotation. They have 3 World Series winners there. They will give the Mets a hard time.

I'll go: Twins in 5 Yanks in 4 Padres in 5 Mets in 4
I honestly think the Padres and Cards are playing for the right to get smoked by the Mets-Dodgers winner (probably the Mets).
I was really surprised game two of the Yankees-Tigers series and game one of the Mets-Dodgers series weren't flip-flopped so that each New York team would get one home primetime game.

Maybe because the Mets aren't expected to get the ratings of a Yankees game. The Yankees draw the most on the road. They're an attraction. It makes sense that their games are in primetime.

Looks like it'll be Maddux vs. Glavine in Game 2. Outstanding!
edit--- If it goes 5, it's Sunday in LA, Monday in NY. That could have an impact on whoever advances, if it were to go to 5 games

All series' that go 5 games will impact whoever advances. That's why I want the Yanks to sweep and the other series' to go 5.

The selfish side of my wants the Yanks to sweep everyone. The baseball fan side of me wants the Yanks to go down to the last out in exciting fashion.
Man, I wish it was starting today.

Why would the baseball fan side of you want the Yankees to lose?
Fuck that. Let the Yanks WIN in the last out in exciting fashion.

Got the beers on ice for this. I am also grateful for daytime playoff action to help kill time at work.
Yankees have an easier time of it than if they played the Twins.

Hey, what can I say, I'm a sucker for a win in a pressure situation. Makes the win all the better.

I think anyone would agree that any team with a pitcher like Johan Santana is going to be MUCH tougher in a short series. The A's have their work cut out for them. I would much rather face the Twins in a 7 game series than a 5 game.
Nice to know Tom will be drinking on the job. A WIN in a pressure situation is fine. But WINNING is better than losing in ANY situation.

Yes, but I'm not a fan of losing, I'm a fan of storybook endings. People remember the 1996 World Series more than the 99 Series. I like winning with backs to the wall.

I like winning. Period. And if there is some sort of comeback in order, let it be in the World Series, so our pitching isn't exhausted. The 2003 LCS was a great comeback. But when it was over, we didn't give a shit about the World Series. I don't want that again.

I gave a shit. People who watched all of playoffs gave a shit too, and knew the Marlins were going to give us a hard time.
Sure, I wouldn't mind a sweep. But I can't say I will be mad if teams make things interesting.

Yeah, seriously, keep the broad brush at home. The World Series is the World Series, and plenty of fans did care after the Marlins celebrated on the Yankee Stadium mound, and that dickhead Loria slid into home plate.

That was a very good World Series, despite us losing. Everyone who said it would be Anti-climactic probably didn't watch the NL playoffs.
Aside from 96 I think one of my favorite playoff years was 2003 and 2001. Even thought we lost, I saw some of the best postseason ball in my life thus far. Sure, it sucks that we lost, but I went into that playoffs the same way I went into the 96 playoffs: hopefu, anxious,l and worried.

People cared AFTER the Marlins celebrated, but the LCS was the high point. Game 1 was over before we realized what the hell happened. And yes, the 2003 WS was anti-climactic.
The 2003 Yankees were better than the Marlins. They didn't come out ready to play.

The NL playoffs were nice that year, but from the point of view of the Yankees, and yes, the Yankees and their fans are more important than the rest of the country, it was anti-climactic.
The Yankees/Red Sox rivalry dwarfs the rest of baseball, Steve Bartman notwithstanding.

LOL!! Oh God don't start with that argument again.
If the Yanks were not ready to play they would have been swept. It went to 6, and the Yanks had beat their best starter, Beckett, in game 3. Torre thinks Weaver is worth a shit and he coughs game 4 up in dramatic fashion, and gives the Marlins new life and a huge momentum swing, which they ran with to a World Title. If the Yanks were better, they would have won.

The Yankees/Red Sox rivalry dwarfs the rest of baseball, Steve Bartman notwithstanding. The NL playoffs were not nice, the NL playoffs were Awesome that year. Florida and the Giants had close matches, with Pudge scoring the series winning run at a play at the plate. The Cubs/Braves matchup was solid, and the NLCS was CLASSIC. What if the Yanks were not involved in the AL playoffs the NL playoffs would have been more than 'nice'? Classic is classic no matter who is playing.

Yeah, the Yankees were so important that year that they played at least three playoff games at either 1 or 4pm so the Cubs and/or Red Sox(in the ALDS) would be prime time. Jw

Who gives a shit what time they played?
And sure, the NLCS was great. Not as great as the ALCS which had it all, plus the biggest rivalry in baseball history. And because both LCS' were so great, the WS was anti-climactic.
The Yanks were not ready to play. They were flat as pancakes in Game 1.

And who's fault is that? The best teams are always ready to play. It's not like the Marlins/Cubs series was a snoozer. They had a huge series too, one of the best ever, and they came out fine.
And the Yanks won the next two, defeating their best starter in the process. How were they not ready? How does a team who is not ready go up 2-1?
Sounds like you're rehashing your 01 Diamongbacks argument and mixing it up a bit. LOL!!
We win were the best, and when we lost we're still better. LOL!! Hey were we better than the Sox in 04? We were not ready in games 4-5-6.

The Yankees'. It's human. They beat their biggest rivals in one of the most dramatic ways possible. It took everything they had, and it was so dramatic they were probably partying for the rest of the night. The WS was an afterthought--at least in the beginning.
The 2001 DBacks were a completely different animal. But it's not surprising you bring that up, since it has nothing to do with anything.
