Is this really not being discussed on either board?
Congratulations to the 2007 National League Champions, the Colorado Rockies!!!
This really is one of the most remarkable runs I have seen in any sport.

Its been touched upon here and there. They certainly made believers out of me. I gave up on waiting for this bubble to burst. Fun team to watch, quite deserving, and yes, its very special what they have going on.
They totally housed Arizona. Then again, for the last month, they have totally housed everyone.
Now they have to sit around for 8 days.
Good luck to them. I hope they cap this off. A sweep of either AL team should thrill MLB and the networks to death, especially as a lot of it will happen in freezing temperatures, and quite possibly snow.

It really has been an incredible run. I just hope nine days off doesn't kill their momentum.

It will, and Boston will take them in 5.

Boston won't even get past Cleveland, but that's another story.
Sweep or no, can you imagine how miserable MLB is with potentially an Indians/Rockies World Series? No one outside those two towns is watching it.
Then again, that seems to be the pattern with baseball. If the home team is out of it, the market just plain doesn't watch.
The Rox may fall victim to the long layover like Detroit did last year, though. But what a run nonetheless.

Seven hour games are not helping much.
Seriously, though, the games are even testing my patience, and I would dance a waltz with baseball if I could. But man, Cleveland and Colorado could break the low-water mark for WS ratings if given the chance.
I'll be watching, with much beer at hand.

It might help a bit if they started the games earlier.

Games that are too long are too long if they start at 7, as well as if they start at 8. Late endings are another problem altogether. But my specific complaint is regarding the way the games drag along once the first pitch is thrown.

just seems that football is the only sport that has avoided regionalization....

I think though that the late endings are the worst part. I agree 100 percent that the length is a problem. They need to cut down on some of the showmanship and commercials. But starting a game at 8:37 is much worse than starting at 7:05.

It is, but I don't think it matters too much what time the games are on anymore. Captain makes the point...football is the only sport that has avoided regionalization. The other sports are almost exclusively reliant on the home team being involved. So in the short-term, it really doesn't matter when the games will be on, as long as the home market is able to watch.
That said, if baseball every wants to fix the problem long-term, they need to get the kids watching. And that means earlier starts.

It wouldn't kill baseball to throw in some weekend day games during the playoffs either, instead of the Monday afternoon Division games while adults work and kids are in school.
Sunday might not be the day, but Saturday would work out, I think.

Getting the kids involved is vital. Part of my education on the game was This Week In Baseball, and a personal favoirte, The Baseball Bunch.
How can kids expect to get into it, when they are in bed in the third or fourth inning?
And look what they did this year with the World Series. Starting on a TUESDAY?
Ending in NOVEMBER on PURPOSE?
Selig is an ass.

Well, we shall see how the rockies react once they get there. The Tigers froze up when they got to the main stage while the Cards played it cool.
I hope the rockies do win it all. they are playing some fantastic ball. It's a joy to watch someone new take the ball and run with it each game.
As much as people seem to hate TBS, I'll take their style of coverage over the way FOX runs theirs. Sure the endless Frank fucking TV ads are obnoxious, but if it were FOX they'd put a hat on him and send him to the game, and interview him during an at bat.

The Tigers had a similar problem. They rolled through the LCS while the NLCS was a dogfight. They had a really long layoff and just weren't sharp.
That could happen to the Rockies. You never know how it works.

"Let me tell you, the best way to go to a game is with the coupons in the newspaper that give you half off the ticket!
I heard that Kirby Puckett doesn't like Jews, and this new division thing is also anti-semitic."

Now we finally know why Balls baseball arguements usually make no sense...
now if we could get down to the reason why his wrestling arguements make no sense..I am thinking he learned at the hands of "Hulk Hogans Rock and Wresting" cartoon......

I don't like it. I don't now, nor will I ever consider them a real team. I am rooting against the fundamental idea of a Denver baseball team, not against that particular group of ballplayers.
It STILL does not sit well with me that they have to alter the the equipment that is uniform throughout the rest of the league, in order to simulate a regulation baseball game. You can humm and haw and tell me all about the humidor, but there's still no getting around it...it's a simulated baseball game using altered equipment and I don't like it one bit. The best thing for baseball was when the Rockies SUCKED...this successful season just distances the Rockies that much further from well deserved contraction.
BOO Rockies!

Save that shit argument, Cho, and come down off of the sanctity of the game pedestal.
The mere fact that each field has it's own geometry should set you off if you are worried about standards.
What about each player batting with a "non-uniform" bat? Some use heavier bats, some use lighter. Some use ash, some use maple.
The humidor argument does not work.

It certainly does not work, especially when baseballs are treated in the humidor to be exactly like the STANDARD baseballs being used around the country. Lets not even get into the discussion about what happens to any baseball in a game where it happens to be raining, or incredibly cold.
But the balls that come out of the humidor in Colorado are as close to what you are seeing around baseball as you can get. I saw a whole special on it. And all this said, Jackass was spot-on in regards to Stadium geometry and differing equipment.

I didnt see it on Mythbusters. I have only seen Mythbusters once, although I liked it. Never got around to watching it again, sadly. I'll say this - if they backed up what I said and saw elsewhere, it can be set in stone.

These Rockies really should send Tim McClelland a gift basket or something for his generosity. Holiday still hasn't touched homeplate.

They certainly have time to pick out a good one before they have to play ball again. Look, it would not have mattered if Fred Merkle came back from the dead and pulled another "boner" while wearing Colorado purple, giving the D-backs a gift win - the Rockies owned Arizona and any win Arizona would have eked out would simply have delayed the inevitable.
