I like Schilling for what he did. Brought winning to Boston. Hell, I don't see why they won't bring him back one more season.
I do hate him for his constant mouth, referrences to god & his Republican political stance however.
Fuck "Rocket? That shit is not funny. It's like joking about someone's dead mother.

Seems like the World Series ball is missing again. Good job there. Neither Varitek or Papelbon have no idea where it went. Maybe Doug Mentkiewicz, dressed like a groundskeeper, made off with it.

What does that mean?
The REIGNING champions can be a little magnanimous in the victory. It's more like joking about an Ex spouse AFTER you've gone and gotten re-married to someone better looking.
And what's with Papalbon showing Lowell the door by saying he'd 'LOVE' to have ARod on the team?
One thing that sucks about winning a championship these days is that you get like three days to revel in your glory, then it's 'whose signing where?' and 'who should be traded?'

I was meaning "don't even joke about that piece of shit coming to Boston". I hate him more than any athlete ever. I don't care what Pap says. I am not liking what I'm hearing out of the Lowell camp. I guess he'll be looking for top dollar no matter where it is, along with a 4+ year deal. If so, thanks for the MVP - seeya.

That's hysterical about the ball, though the thought of Miasf;asjkhd;fjkz being in disguise is even funnier.

Hey Mac--if the Sox sign ARod, they may end up surpassing the Yanks in payroll next year.

An ARod deal will make Lowell's look like chump change.
I'm afraid the bottom line is ALL ballplayers want top dollar, and who can blame them. I want top dollar too, but I can't find anyone to pay me top dollar to sleep in til noon, smoke lots of dope and fuck off all day on these boards. Alas........
But anyway why is it that we all hate on players making the big money when actors routinely make more than Arod.
Keanu Reeves made 15mil +like 100mil more in percentage of the gross of the last two Matrix movies. I'd rather pay box seat prices to watch Arod knit a sweater.
Mel Gibson - made 30 mil on Lethal Weapon 4. After half an hour of that I was ready crucify myself.
Tom Cruise made 100mil for Bore of the Worlds
the Governator made 25 million to play MR. FREEZE.....
Chris Tucker made 25 mil in Rush Hour 3.
It goes on and on and on. It boggles the mind.

I doubt it. They will probably let Schillings 13 mil go, along with Lowell's 9 mill, Clement's 9 mill, etc.
There's ARod's 30 mill right there.

I always get a kick out of this, given that he's no worse than the third-best pitcher in Red Sox history, and certainly the best of our lifetimes.

Say Jeter came into camp at 275 lbs next year & hit .250....
Say he was a free agent after the 08 season & demanded TOP SS $$......
Say he signed with the Blue Jays....
Say he showed up to camp (for the Jays) actually IN SHAPE....
Say he then REQUESTED a trade to Boston & it happened....
Say he then glared up at Yankee management during a game after saying he was "disrespected" while wearing a Sox uniform...
WOULD YOU STILL SUCK JETER OFF?

Clemens in 1996 was as good if not better than he was in his 2001 Cy Young campaign. The real difference was run support. Boston has a history of turning on their legends, and running them out of town. They did it with Wade Boggs too.

I'd rather send players out too early than hold onto them too long. IE Bernie Williams, Johnny Damon, Mike Mussina.
Yes, it was an error to think Clemens wouldn't be a fat tub of lard for the rest of his career. To think it would take a change of teams to get him to "try" again, wasn't something that was easy to judge. Clemens is a piece of garbage & he's proved that to Boston & New York. He walked out on NY in 03 & cost you a draft pick. Then you deperatos sucked him off again. Shame on you.

Do I count Jeter's (or Rocket's ) record of service to the team? If I do, then I got nothing bad to say.
If I thought Jeter was "in the twilight of his career'' like Duquette said of Rocket, Why would I care?
And what about Boggs where's all the hate for him? He won after the sox pronounced him dead.

If Jeter was an out of shape brat this year & then signed with Boston next year, you'd hate him.
As far as Boggs - for some reason I don't hold it against him AS MUCH. I still hate his guts. To me - any TRUE Sox or Yanks player simply could not switch sides if their "heart" was into the rivalry & the wars they've had. It's like becomming friends with the guy that was banging your wife. It simply shouldn't be possible.
Boggs gave his all in Boston & for the most part - was finished. They should have probably kept him around (they weren't going anywhere with our without him), but I can't blame him for still wanting to play. To go to NY is the issue. Any other team would be fine, but that told me all I need to know about him too.
Schilling is a nerd, but you know he hates NY deep down - as he should. Even if Boston tosses him aside, he'd still not pitch for NY because he honestly doesn't like them...as he shouldn't.

That's because the Celtics were the only franchise who knew what the fuck they were doing in Boston, and they never would have let him go (hence, the Larry Bird Exception). Larry Bird never would have worn purple and gold, because he didn't have to...the Celtics knew how to win.
The Red Sox, on the other hand, were a fucking joke for the better half of 86 years.
But you keep being mad at Clemens.
You fucks should retire his number.

Fuck Clemens & his #. My only question is - why won't they reissue it?
He choked in the postseason anyway. The guy is a selfish piece of trash & he's proved it time & time again.

That's the problem. For 99% of the players the 'brotherhood' is with other players NOT any particular club. Clubs toss guys aside all the time. Loyal, career guys. So, what Rocket plays out his career in KC where there is no rivalry, or goes for the fattest pocketed team around. Sound like good business to me.
We're (the FANatcis) the only ones who perpetuate this hate of some 'enemy'
Lemme ask a quick question;
IF you were offered the GM position on the Yankees (assuming you wanted to be a GM), and no other team offered, would you take it? Same goes for the Yankee fans. Would you GM the Bosox if being a GM was your dream?

There is a better shot of MSB sporting a Giambi jersey than me forgiving Roger Clemens.

At this point, with all the hate shown Clemens, he should never bother with Boston again. If the Yankees and Yankee fans treated a legend that way, that legend would be right to tell them to fuck off. But Boston is the only city that seems to react that way. Hell, the Yankees gave Mike Pagliarulo better treatment when he was an ex-Yankee.
Clemens' number should DEFINITELY be retired.

They don't NEED the $ to sell their soul. In that situation, I guess I would. If my dream was to be a GM, I'd take any GM job possible, but the reality is - if NY or Boston wants you to be a GM, so would 10+ other teams, so it would never be a problem. Would I rather be the GM in KC for 500k or the GM in NY for 1mill? Yup

Clemens' number should DEFINITELY be retired. If Jeter did the same thing right now & told NY to fuck off, he wouldn't be loved anymore. His # would probably still be retired because of 4 rings. If not for 4 rings, he'd be like Clemens - just another Boston choker. If I was the Boston GM & Clemens agent called me asking if we wanted him, I'd tell him to blow me. I would say it's nice knowing Clemens is pissed Boston won it, but he isn't...He got what he wanted - another $20 million from the idiot Yankees for 4 wins.

That's a fair answer. There always comes a point where you have to ask, "how much can you eat?" Do you squeeze every last dollar out and be a whore, or do you sacrifice some money for what you truly want.
ARod is an extreme case. This guy is making more money than anyone in baseball history, and opts out to get even more.
Then you have someone like Paul O'Neill who pisses the union off by signing for significantly less money than he should have because he felt he had more money than he could ever spend, and wanted to retire a Yankee.
|
|
|
Post by mac0822 on Nov 1, 2007 13:20:09 GMT -5
Or the union not letting AROd go to Boston because he'd be taking less $.
Not that I'm pissed about that, and not that I dislike unions, but fuck me.

This is the problem. Our society is based on MORE MORE MORE. Those who sacrifice are in the distinct minority.
An athlete is a business, and business is about maximizing profits. You never hear, Microsoft saying 'oh well we've made enough. All Microsoft products are gonna be 50 cents now.' You never hear MobilExxon saying 'we made record profits, we'll charge 10 cents for gas this year.'
If teams show no loyalty except to the bottom line, players can too.

I don't think you can compare sports to Exxon. Don't even get me going on gas prices.
I simply cannot imagine being an athlete with 50 mil in the bank & playing for NY when I want to play for Boston because of a few million.

I also think a company is different than an individual. When you're talking dollars that high, it's not going to change your life.
