Putting Joba in the pen is not the right call. Why not put Sabbathia in the pen? He can do it.

Again....
Because Sabathia has proven to be a dominant starter.
Joba has proven to be a dominant reliever, his arsenal translates better to relief pitching, he hasn't demonstrated shit as a starter, AND we now(to reiterate) need to play catch up Boston.
I'm not sure why you don't see the importance of turning a nine inning game into a 6 or 7 inning game when that was pretty much for formula for success for this team in the late 90s.

Example of why Boston is smarter than NY.
They sign Youkillis to a 4/41.
Basically Boston signs a homegrown guy to a contact that is less than 25% the amount NY buys their 1B for. All this for almost as much production on the field.

Boston developed him, and were in a position to do that. Had Youkillis made it to the open market, assuming similar production, he would get a deal similar to Texeira.
The Yanks did something very similar with Cano. You have to have guys worth doing that for. Let's just hope Youkilis responds to the new deal as well as Cano did.

Both teams learned from the Yankees' mistakes. The Yankees should have gotten the Jeter deal done much earlier, and they really fucked themselves with the Bernie Williams deal. Bernie probably got double the money he would have gotten if the Yankees had signed him a year earlier, and in Bernie's case, the threat of him signing with Boston didn't hurt his cause.

the notion of signing players you may not need to block another team from getting them...or attempting to sign an analogous player to play catch-up is RIDICULOUS.
This is one aspect of the Yankees that I hate!
Kei Igawa is a prime example. If Kei Igawa even dreams that he's worthy of wiping Dice-K's nut sack, he'd better wake up an apologize.

Igawa was one of the worst signings in a long time, and the move was made 100% as a response to Dice-K. I couldn't agree more.

The 2008 season was a great one for Dustin Pedroia. The 5-foot-9 second baseman became just the eighth player in American League history to win the MVP, a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger in the same season, while also being the first second baseman to win the MVP since Nellie Fox in 1959.
Unfortunately for Pedroia, the calendar year of 2009 hasn't started out very well. While Pedroia himself hasn't had any problems, his older brother Brett has gotten himself in a bit of trouble. Earlier this month Brett turned himself into the Woodland, Calif. police on child molestation chargers.
According to the Woodland Police Department, Brett Pedroia was taken into custody Jan. 9 on a probable cause warrant for two counts of oral copulation and lewd acts with a child under the age of 14, all felonies.
The alleged victim recently told his parent about the incidents from four years ago, a statement from Woodland police said.
Brett Pedroia, 30, was booked and later released on $50,000 bail. He was working in his family's tire store Saturday, but he said he had no comment

Wouldn't it be cool if the Red Sox sucked for another 86 years?
God, I hate those assholes.

Jonathan Pappelbon is a little punk. He's running his mouth about Manny (actually he already ran his mouth...it just came out) calling him names, a cancer, etc.
I'm no fan of Manny, but...
The Red Sox may very well have won BOTH World Series without Pappelbon, but they don't win EITHER World Series without Manny.

Come on, Cho. Nearly everyone would agree Manny is quite the clubhouse cancer. Oh, I guess you are excusing Manny for ripping his time in Boston, now that he is in La La Land? Papelbon is simply defending his team, which is an admirable trait only if it happens in the Yankee lockerroom, supposedly.

Oh please, everyone on that team thought Manny was a cancer. I've heard that specific word thrown around the office many times.
What Manny did to the Red Sox was inexcusable. Joke's on him though. I read that after all the shit he pulled and relocating and Scott Boras' fees, he's only getting around a Mil more in this LA deal that he had been making in Boston.

I'd do a shitton more for a shitton less money.
But that's why it's weird. It's like, you pulled ALL this shit, refusing to play... taking 3 strikes from Mo. faking injuries. all this shit to get to LA. and THEN you want to throw your name around and pretend there are other teams 'interested' in your malarky? bah! If he wasn't so damn good, I'd say throw him to the wolves.

I'm not defending Manny, Tom. When did I defend Manny? I think he's a douche.
He was a cancer, no doubt.
But the bottom line is that...Pappelbon is a young player in the infancy of his career and hasn't even scratched the surface of contributions to the Red Sox franchise that Manny has given them. Bottom line - all the Boston fans and players know that Manny is a petulant baby....but the Red Sox emphatically DON'T win either World Series without him on the team.
You don't hear any Sox veterans coming out....damn near 9 months after the fact....calling out Manny as a "cancer."
Pappelbon should leave it alone...this guy is a cocky little asshole whose contributions thus far don't amount to dick in comparison to Manny's. Pap is a Red Sock, and Manny's days as a Red Sock are far removed, so give it rest. But no...Pap is one of these pricks who is going to consistently run his mouth. But what do you expect, he was probably influenced by Schilling. What's next from Pappelbon - a scathing verbal lashing of Mo Vaughn?

No one has told him to shut up, either. Again, everyone knows the story, to the point that its fact that Francona, before ties were cut, called in the vets and asked if any of them wanted Manny to stick around, and they were unanimous in sending him on his way.
His teammates hated him. Cho, you are forgetting that Manny has been badmouthing Boston all along, calling those years pretty much unbearable. If you were in that clubhouse, you would shrug it off? I give Papelbon props for telling him to shut his mouth, pretty much.
Wow, you guys let your Boston envy cloud your views.

I don't buy it. I think he's a loudmouth acting inappropriately.
No veterans have come out to slag Manny....and you said it yourself...they handled it quietly and internally....just like they'll handle this Pappelbon situation. No veterans are going to come out publicly and tell Pappelbon that he's talking too much...it's just not done.
And I don't buy the eye for eye argument either. It's agreed...Manny is a cock. But tit for tat doesn't excuse Pappelbon.
If Pappelbon REALLY wanted respect and to make a point about his feelings on Manny, and that of his teammates for that matter, he'd wait for a chance to face Manny (inter-league, exhibition, whatever....even if it's three years down the line) and plant a fastball in his thigh.
THAT'S the way someone like Timlin or Pedro would handle it.

Everyone in boston hates Manny, 90% of the planet hates manny - pap's just a dumbass enough to say it in the press.
Most Red Sox fans are idiots, but I'm sure no one is reading that article thinking "oh man! Better get rid of my manny jersey; I have to hate him now!" although, thinking about it... i wouldn't be surprised.

Jim Rice is a total douchebag. Attacking Derek Jeter's character? Is he kidding?
The worst part is he was bitching about money players, when he was the top paid player in baseball in his day. He made more than players that were better than he was. Douchebag.

Fuck Jim Rice. He's bitter because he knows Jeter's a first-ballot HOFer and his punk ringless ass took 15 years to get in.
Hey, anyone remember when the Red Sux were 8-0 vs. the Yankees? ;D

Top Reasons To Hate The Red Sox:
The Bandwagon You cannot even safely punch a guy wearing a "B" cap on the street anymore... he doesn't know what it stands for, he just knows that it is trendy. Do you know what they call a star whose time in the spotlight has faded? They call him a B-List celebrity. That is what the B is for... Bandwagon. And even the hardcore fans squabble about the pink hats and Fever Pitch tourists who don't know who Grady Little is.
1918 Goddamn it I miss shouting that simple, catch-all retort.
2004 ALDS Umpiring Umpire Jerry Meals had season seats in Fenway and squeezed a Bartolo Colon masterpiece in game 2 down to a 3-K affair... Can you say Black Sox please? Had it been the reverse and Bahstin's 9 suffered such a potentially felonious defrauding, there would have been congressional hearings called.
Ben Affleck Ha! I will take "no celebrity spokesperson in the stands" over that.
ESPN Fawning It started off as their Jeter-love having a dark side and now they lead off every episode of SportsCenter with a Kevin Youkilis skull-waxing update (next razor swipe scheduled for Wednesday!). Massachusetts, have you no shame?
Theo Epstein Worship Funny how every team with a budget near Theo's wins 90+ games a year when they stay healthy, but somehow this makes the golden child alone a genius. Billy Beane needs to sue for superlatives copyright infringement.
George Mitchell A member of the Red Sox Board of Directors investigates steroid use in baseball and finds everyone was terrible except the men on his very own team. After everyone had been sullied and the game forever tarnished, once everyone was sick and tired of it all, oh then... then comes Manny and Papi and of course, all the Nation can do is whine that everyone else did it. A gross manipulation of the evidence to protect the corporate brand.
...and speaking "The Nation"... THE NATION No marketing scheme, be it a Rally Monkey, thundersticks, dollar hot dog Wednesdays... no marketing scheme is as lame as one that attempts to mimic National Socialism in the name of selling jerseys, hats and teeshirts. If patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, "The Nation" is the tacky souvenir shop at the train depot of that final refuge.
Dan Shaughnessy Seriously... get a haircut you puffy girly man. Mike Lupica is J.D. Salinger standing next to this clown.
Yankee Syndrome Blindness The more the Red Sox have won this decade, the more the team and their fans have morphed into a mimickry of Yankees fans - arrogant, spoiled by success, oblivious to 28 other teams in the league, and self-assured they are "baseball-educated" when they don't even know the history of Pumpsie Green breaking Mister Yawkey's apartheid. They have become the thing that they hate most - Red Sox Nation has become the A-Rod of baseball fans: Chumps who assume that they are to be adored by all for their inherent (virtue?), when in reality they are blinded by the arrogance of lucking into a good run.
