Tom, I take UMBRAGE! Al made it a poin to spend time in the cuban community during filiming. It was aythentic as possible. Will you give him shit for his hick accent in Scent of a Woman?
Say what you will, but if Marlon Brando painted himself black and did an african accent he would have won an Oscar, So to quote my friend Tony,"Fuck em all."

Scarface is one of the most overrated movies ever. It's a good movie. I own it. I'll watch it from time to time. But the way people revere this movie, you'd think it belongs up there with The Godfather, Gone With The Wind, and Turk 182!
You can tell how over-the-top Pacino's accent is simply by watching his scenes with Steven Bauer, who IS Cuban, and who does a legit Cuban accent.

Yeah, the accent is enough to keep me away. No thanks. Let it be a "classic" on its own time.

I need someone to settle an argument for me.
In the movie The Flamingo Kid, when Jeffrey is at the table eating with his family, what odd thing does he start doing while eating. Is he just moaning and mumbling random noises, or is he actually humming a tune?
I contend that he is humming a tune, because his father begins to chime in mockingly and starts humming some old traditional military anthem, and then says "The singing eather...you've been singing and eating since you were ....."

Did he change the channel on his remote and actually put a good movie on for the viewer instead?

Saw "Man Of The Year" yesterday. Eh....it was ok.
The idea of the movie...a John Stewart, Bill Maher type guy running for the presidency, has a lot of comedic potential, and this movie just didn't live up to expectations.
I'm getting tired of movies that disguise the fact that it is nothing more than a vehicle to allow Robin Williams to perform stand-up. This was movie was "Good Morning Vietnam" without the Vietnam part.

We saw United 93 for the first time this weekend.
It was alright. Lots I liked about it, lots that were blah. It was kind of odd that with 30 minutes left in the movie they just abruptly stopped going to the air traffic control rooms with no closure at all. There was also no emotional attachment to anyone on that plane, aside from the fact that we all know the story of that day. I was even surprised at the lack of emotion in regards to weepy music or anything like that, it was just devoid of emotion at the end to me.

I watched Speed 2 for the first time over the weekend. I knew it was a bad movie, and it didn't disappoint.

Which was exactly what the director intended. Though there was some music at the end, you can't just hear it that well with the plane engines going so loud. Jw

Yeah, I get that. But for me, it just didnt work. Look, I was not looking for a musical crescendo with harp and lute, but it just seemed emotionless, and when it was over I was like, "well, I guess thats that then."

Interestingly enough, I watched my DVD of Meatballs last night. That's an awesome movie.
Arguably the best summer camp movie ever made.

Never saw Meatballs.
Why the Hell is it called that anyway? I dont think I would have any interest in actually going out and seeing a movie called Meatballs.

Meatballs is a bad movie. So bad it's good. The acting is atrocious in that movie, but it just has classic comedic moments, which really aren't THAT funny...but for some reason have been embedded in people's minds as being hilarious. For me, Meatballs is probably a lot like Caddyshack - I've never seen Caddyshack but everyone swears it's hilarious - so for that reason I feel I owe to myself to see it just to know what the hell people are talking about when they reference it.
To this day, when someone belches, I say, "What...no mustard?"

I don't know why it was called Meatballs, but it was about the hijinx in a summer camp. And I disagree about the acting. While it wasn't stellar, it suited the purpose for the kind of movie it was.
The movie was good on its own. It's a classic comedic movie featuring Bill Murray in his motion picture debut.

I've been home i'll the past few days and a few channels have horror movie marathons ...so I wound up watching Halloween (a good movie) through Halloween 3, which was one of the worst movies of all time ...It had nothing to do with the previous 2 ..Im not even sure what actually happened in it..IMDB reviews gave it 3.5 stars which i think is very generous...Gotto go, Halloween 4 is on Mikey is baaaack....

Go see the Departed. It was really good. Everyone did an incredible job. The only one that was slightly annoying was Jack Nicholson. He overdoes it these days. He's too much of a character. Everybody puts on these Boston accents and surprisingly, there were no Red Sox references which is always a plus.

Has anyone seen "The Audition?" I was involved in an email chain yesterday about scary movies, and someone said, "You want scary...see The Audition."

Bringing up an old argument from the other board, Superman Returns finally hit the $200 million mark. Better late than never. It has now grossed $200 million US, and $390 million worldwide, and this is before the DVDs are even sold.
The movie did not make what they wanted, but it hardly flopped.
Additionally, it looks like they are indeed going forward with a sequel. There will be a lower budget, but that's to be expected. I'm pretty sure a lot of that $260 million was from all the attempts at making the movie over the last 10 years, including the horrific Nicolas Cage stuff.
I would hope they come up with a much better script next time around because bottom line is, the movie was not good enough and that script cost them at least $100 million if not more.

I thought Borat was highly overrated. People were describing it as the funniest movie they ever saw. Clearly, those people need to see funnier movies.

Definitely not the funniest movie I've ever seen...not even the funniest Borat skits I've ever seen...but funny enough nonetheless.
