"Metal Christmas." Its mostly a compendium of a lot of British NWOHM artists recanting some Christmas tunes. There are some guys from bands like Uriah Heep on here. But the highlight is certainly one Paul Dianno. You have not lived to enjoy Christmas mirth unless you have heard the brusque ex-Iron Maiden vocalist belt out standards like "White Christmas" and "Santa Claus is Coming to Town."

Ironically, I am spinning some Barenaked Ladies at the moment as well. Barenaked for the Holidays. Picked it up for the wife last year, and bought it along with a bunch of other Christmas offerings today to spin at work. As I type this now, the cover for that "Do they know its Christmas Time at all" song is playing.

Funny little ditty T,
I was in a bar at Mohegan Sun last month late on a Saturday night. There was a pair of nerdy looking guys drinking and watching the TV next my wife and I. The barkeep was a middle aged woman.
At one point, we were BS'ing on someting on the news and my wife says to the dudes; "you know I swear I recognize you...."
One of 'em answers "I'm a bare naked lady in my day job."
My wife is like "Ohhhh."
The barkeep is like; "Oh, I'm a Christian. I don't go to those places. so I wouldn't know about that."
I almost spit up my soda!!

An online radio station that is spinning alternatative Christmas and holiday music. Saw a blurb in the USA TODAY yesterday acknowledging it, saying it specializes in tracks like James Brown's "FUNKY CHRISTMAS" and the Flaming Lips "WHITE CHRISTMAS."
From now through Christmas, we're pleased to offer up the WOXY HOLIDAY MIXER! This unique 24/7 collection of seasonal tunes is filled with vintage renditions of your holiday favorites by modern rockers from around the globe. We have a little bit of something for everyone with new music this year from the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Aimee Mann, Over The Rhine, and The Teenage Prayers. If you stick around long enough, you'll probably hear some irreverent selections from "A John Waters Christmas" and Spinal Tap but we've balanced them out with some classic tracks from Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and James Brown among others. To round things out a little more, we've also included some tunes about winter, snow falling, and the month of December because we know you can only hear "Jingle Bells" so many times...
A lot of the tracks we selected are out-of-print or hard to find and we had a lot of fun rounding them all up for you. We hope you enjoy the WOXY Holiday Mixer, and all of us at WOXY.com wish you a safe and happy holiday season!
LAST 10 PLAYED
The last 10 songs spun

Yeah your initial post made me think of it.
Anyone here at all familiar with El Vez (affectionately known as the Mexican Elvis). The short explanation is he's sort of a Weird Al Yankovich of Elvis tunes - he takes Elvis songs, re-works them to Mexican-themed lyrics.
Anyway he has a really funny Christmas album as well, "Merry Mex-Mas"

Hmm. The only thing comparable is the reworked version of "Feliz Navidad" with the chorus being, "Police stopped my car" instead.

Hey, El Vez used to be in the punk band the Zeros in the '70s. The were like, the Cholo Ramones. They had a great song called 'Don't push me around.' Real early punk ala the Germs.
That's Cho's and Jackass' scene though........
I think I still have an old Clash bootleg tape with the Zeros opening for them.
El Vez in funny now....he reminds me of David Johansen's Buster Poindexter, except Mexican.

Hey, I just read the stuff about El Vez posted above.
I'm pretty sure that I saw the Zeros at one time or another, but the band I remember that dude from was Catholic Discipline. I saw them a few times at The Hong Kong Cafe downtown. They were always playing there. I'm pretty sure that Phranc was in that band too.
BTW, listening to Electric Honey by Luscious Jackson right now.

El Vez, real name Robert Lopez from both The Zeros and probably more well known for is appearances in The Decline Of Western Civilization footage of Catholic Discpline with their whacky frontman Claud Bessy.
Now since we're on the subject - Jackass (in case you haven't already heard) and King....you might be interested in the band Manic Hispanic - good long time friends of mine featuring Gabby on vocals (Cadillac Tramps, X-Members, Flock Of Goo Goo), Steve Soto on guitar (Adolescents, 22 Jacks, Joyride, Agent Orange) and other members of prominent SoCal bands like The Cadillac Tramps, The Grabbers, The X-Members, Los Infernos, etc.. Look for their MySpace page - not sure what the link is - just look up Manic Hispanic. They take old punk classics and rework the lyrics into Mexican themes. Examples:
The Clash "White Man In Hammersmith Palais" = "Brown Man in O.C.J." Social Distortion "Mommy's Little Monster" = "Mommy's Little Cholo" D.I. "Johnny's Got A Problem" = "My Homeboy Is a Hoto" Sham 69 "If The Kids Are United" = "If The Vatos Are United" Stiff Little Fingers "Barbed Wire Love" = "Barrio Love" Wire "12XU" = "Uno Dos Equis U"

They're really good...the songs or funny as shit, and as far as the punk rock goes, it's top notch!
Mommy's Little Cholo got kicked outta school For drinkin' 40 ouncers and smokin' superkools ..... ..... ..... His brother's en la pinta And his sister's on parole His parents say Mijo, We're prayin' for your soul

You know, they played Decline Of Western Civilization II recently on one of the musice channels, but they never play the first one, and not that I've searched, I don't think its readily available anymore, is it?
These Manics are fun.... I love the Clash covers Brand New Impala...I'm gonna try to SoulSeek some more.....I also remember a Spanish? / Mexican? Clash/Punk band called La Furia....They played in Long Beach back when I was in LA.

The best is if you can get a hold of the CDs. The between song banter on the CDs is hilarious.
My favorite of all Manic Hispanic tunes are their covers of the Dead Kennedys "Lynch The Landlord" = "Chingasos With The Landlord" and their cover of Catholic Disciplines "Babylon Must Fall" = "Tijuana Must Fall" which includes an Oki Dog mention!
I'll burn CDs for those interested.
You should also check out Gabby's (the singer of Manic Hispanic) legit band The Cadillac Tramps - they also have a My Space page.

Yes, and the cover shows Gabby laying on the stage floor with hot sauce smeared on his face, mimicking the famous picture of Darby Crash laying on the stage floor with a mixture of beer, spit, and some magic marker writing smeared on his face.
The records are:
The Menudo Incident (named after Guns N Roses punk covers album The Spaghetti Incident) The Recline Of Mexican Civilization (named after The Decline Of Western Civilization - famous punk rock documentary) Mijo Goes To Junior College (named after The Descendents' Milo Goes To College)
