I didn't even know about it, and I have a birthday dinner I can't get out of. The bonus is that the birthday dinner is keeping me away from the Nets game. I may run on the court and choke Lawrence Frank one of these days. Back on topic, the MP3 player is currently "spinning" this fine work of art:

Forgot my CD pack this morning, and I am out here in the Long Island office where radio reception is nill on even a good day. We have Gorilla Monsoon-ish conditions outside right now. So I ambled over to Yahoo Launch Radio, and I am poking around the free schmorgasbord (sp) on hand
Right now as I am at work and I dont want to really bother anyone strolling on by, or add clutter to my morning with a cacophony of noise, I have chosen to roll with some "Classic Country."
Ah, good old Ronnie Milsap, singing about "Having Daydreams about Night Things in the Middle of the Afternoon." Followed up with some good old George Jones. He stopped loving her today, you know, according to George.

Ronnie Milsap opened for George Strait here a couple of weeks ago. I really wanted to go, but didn't end up making it. I grew up listening to Milsap, and he puts on a hell of a show. I understand he is still blind as well.

Yeah, those glasses of his kind of gave it away. As to touring, I had no idea he was still making the rounds. More power to him.
Right now the Oak Ridge Boys are goin' to town, with "American Made." I made a good choice today.

You know, I have not heard much of their stuff, as much as I hear their name bandied about. I understand they are really good at what they do, and once I caught a snippet on that metal channel on IO cable, and liked it.....for some reason I never went further....is it recommended? Right now I am listening to 3 Inches of Blood. Retro thrashy metal, with all kinds of cool 80s overtones. And a killer cover to boot...

They are worth tracking down. The vocalist is kick ass! Musically they have a good amount of Maiden in em.
When I was copying the cover off of Amazon, I noticed you could get the debut CD used for like $5. Amazon used is a goldmine for good music if you are still in purchase mode these days. Also, I know for fact their website and MySpace page has samples on there you can check out, give a whirl.

I shall indeed check out said band. Today is Pro-Pain day. I do this here and now, grab every CD I have from a certain band and cart them along to work and spend the next 8 plus hours spinning nothing but. Today I bought along at least 8 or 9 Pro-Pain CDs and a couple of cassettes. They are one of the bands I own the most recordings of so this should be fun. Simple New York hardcore. Some folks love this band, many hate them. Oh, they have their moments, some of my favorite songs are from their catalog. But they have some boring tracks too, and are victims of the AC/DC syndrome, where to people who dont like them "they just keep playing the same thing over and over." As proof that is not so, I am listening to their CD of covers, aptly titled "Run for Cover" and they are doing Slayer's "South of Heaven" as we speak. They even cover Sepultura and Life of Agony, among others on this one. Here's to em!

Didn't really know where else to put this...but Jesse Malin was on Conan last night. The new record is out. Go see this guy:
Tomorrow, free in-store performance at Virgin Megastore @ Union Square.

I love a lot of their stuff. I even like "Tessie," which I also hate.

When I first heard Tessie I was not following along with the words, had no idea Red Sox players were doing backing vox, or that it was a centerpiece of that faggy Red Soxie movie. I actually put the song write onto a killer mixed CD I was making. To this day I spin that thing and friggin' Tessie comes up and ruins it.
I liked the Dropkick Murphys when they had a lot more hardcore in their sound. They have really, uh, toned it down. Now they are just a party band.

That band blows...especially in comparison to Al Barr's first band The Bruisers. I would check them out if it's good East Coast Hardcore out of New England that you're looking for.

Only song I like on that CD is "Alcohol", and I'm Pretty sure thats a cover

Not sure I've ever heard Alcohol by the Dropkicks, but the old UK punk band GBH had a minor hit with their song "Alcohol." Not sure if it's the same.
BTW - Flogging Molly is a MUCH better choice if it's that Irish-punk barroom sing-song style you're looking for...MUCH BETTER!

Actually Gang Green does a killer "Alcohol." Another Boston based outfit. Song penned by "Doherty" - as in Gang Green's Doherty. Are these other bands just kicking around this same song? There is a European drinking band called Tankard that covers it.

Never foget Shane - Who I saw this weekend by the way......Poques on St. Paddy's weekend = Fun Experience.

Well, again, I don't know it be the same song...if Doherty wrote, then it's clearly not the same song that GBH did, because GBH predates either band by at least a decade...well, maybe not quite a decade in Gang Green's case, but they predate them some years nonetheless.
And of course I couldn't forget the Pogues, however I wouldn't necessarily put The Pogues in that Hard, Fast, Loud category that I'd put Flogging Molly or The Dropkicks in.

Enjoying a little live stuff early on this Tuesday morn. Much maligned former Maiden vocalist Blaze Baylay. He actually sung on one of my favorite Maiden CDs, the very much underrated - and very dark - The X Factor. This is a double disc, live with his own band, after his ouster from Maiden. He actually pulls out a few of the Maiden dittites he fronted them for. Its a good sound, and not abrasive at all this early in the morning. The crowd is well into things, Blaze shares a lot of intereaction with them as well, so its a polished live recording.

I didn't think he was that bad of a fit with Maiden. I mean, he's totally different from Dickenson, but who isn't?

What a fantastic body of music that is. That Maiden offering is much maligned, but it has a lot of fierce songs. Cheers to that! I was just going to come on here and rue that this thread does not get as much play as it should. And I wanted to tip my cap to my newest purchase, which I just grabbed at Best Buy across the street to curb the bad mood I am in for missing the Baseball America guys signing down the street. The new Type O Negative. Word on the street is this is the strongest stuff they have done in a cows moon. A few songs in right now, and I am diggin' it. Also love the use of the "whatever it is, we're against it" (Marx Brothers) tagline on the case.

So today at work, to ring in end of month, I am going MY DYING BRIDE. Fantastic band name, great and grim music. Harsh and extreme at times, pained and maudlin at others. Pianos, strings, metal guitars, piercing wails, dreary clean vox. I got about 10 plus recordings of this British doom band. Some of ya'll should check em' out.
