And that's exactly why this all happened, the fucking merger. You think Mel wasn't turning the screws to XM to have this done, it's all bad for the merger business. Mel was waiting for one fucking slip up and then it's over johnny. I'll keep the XM but no one is going to fill the O&A spot, it will be weird when some other show is on before Ron and Fez. They should make Ronnie and Fezzie the flagship show and rename the station Monkeyhouse 202.
And Tom, the week Imus got fired and had his telethon or whatever, O&A promoted the hell out of that shit and the foundation raised more money then it's ever had in it's 17 year existence or whatever. If you think the die hard fans(btw, the quotations around pest was funny trying to downplay their role in the O&A world) had little impact on that or anything else associated with the show, you're nuts. There is going to be a steep drop in numbers in XM and it will be cause of this. 3000 people in two hours, what do you tihkn it's only up to 4 grand now? People were on hold 20 mins to an hour dropping XM. Yeah it wasn't busy cause other people weren't canceling the shit cause of O&A, it had to be a bunch of housewives buying subs to hear Oprah. You act like they have 20 fans or something, who are you, Robin Quivers?

Quite frankly, I dont believe your numbers. 3000 cancellations, my ass, especially as they may be back. Are the fans THAT STUPID? Yeah, cancel....then they come back, and you cant listen. Morons.
Also, O&A were NOT the only people touting Imus' telethon. All the FAN staff and jocks were, as were newspapers and other outlets. Even Bill O'Reilly gave out all the info and an encouragement to donate, and his "army" makes Opie and Anthony's look like a handful of people sitting under a tree in a park. Dont give O&A the credit on that one, dummy.

No one, repeat no one, hyped it as much as O&A, even Rob Bartlett said it had more to do with O&A than anyone else.
And you think I have the time to make up numbes, people on paltalk, people on wackbag, all the O&A sites all comfirmed this. And I trust that shit more than I would XMs press release or they're shit on their website. You act like I'm trying to give them more credit for shit, I'm just pointing out you aren't giving enough credit where it's due based on your "hunches", we aren't talking about some tiny show in an even smaller market. You are severly underestimating the whole screnario, and it's funny cause XM is too.

Oh, so the O AND A sites confirmed news beneficial to O & A......I see! Of course I should believe them, I mean, after all, they have no hidden interest in this....do they? LOLOL!
Yeah, like I am going to believe numbers sited on a site called "WACKBAG."
LOLOL!

I admit that I don't pay much attention to mainstream media, but at work and school people were all over the Imus thing and his ranch or whatever it is always happened to get a mention... there were network news promo spots during my primetime shows, MySpace bulletins flying around, emails & even my mom talked about it.
I have not heard shit about O&A outside of this thread.

Cause you don't like or listen to them asshole. shut up.
Tom, you can choose to beleive what you want, but not all message boards are of this nature. I've known of stuff related to the show cause it was leaked first by reliable sources on numerous outlets closley connected to the show. Most of those sites, or at the very least some of the people on those sites know more about it than others, and I beleive them since shit you posted is shit I read 45 mins before you knew and posted it. I know better than anyone there's a lot of malarky on message boards, but when it comes to this I know which shit is more reliable than others, and I know those places better than you. Trust me, people on those boards have more to do with O&A than the "creatures" do with the yankees. When they get "officially" fired from XM and the stock is at an all time low I won't gloat about being right first like you do.

So whats this about Opie and Anthony's poker tourney this weekend being cancelled? Sounds like the first hole has been poked in the boat, and the water is starting to rush in...

Yes, it has been cancelled. I imagine XM was a primary sponsor.
Certainly seems more and more like the boys were fired. That said, most of their show is still on CBS. CBS hasn't fired them, and I don't think they will, because the comments weren't made on their air.
Problem on the XM end is that Ron and Fez will be over-exposed. I'd like to see a 4-hour R&F show though.

I have no accounts of that whatsoever, I think it'd be a bad move to call off the poker boat 3 days before it happens, an event which CBS has handed out free tix even on ron and fez's fm show. I don't think they're in the business of losing money.
And a stat that is a known fact from someone in XM, 2800 sub cancelations, ABOVE THE NORMAL RATE. You were saying Tom? 2800 above normal for one day, yeah XM will barley notice.

Guess your impeccable sources dont tell you EVERYTHING, huh?

Actually I missed it, must of missed it cause of Lauras dumb post, but it doesn't even say it on opieandanthony.com yet so I wasn't sure. I've been getting my updates from paltalk today cause some of the other places are freezing up. As soon as I scrolled up i saw it. It just seems so fucking dumb, if this leads to the comedy shows being scrapped I'm really going to be pissed. Can't say I'm suprised about the boat, but why do they still throw them on at 6 in the morning just to call it off? I know it's no foundation or anything but why keep them on the air in the morning only to pull the plug? Must of been the advertisers wanting out, they dont want their name being tied in with the boys.

Bingo! And when advertisers dont want their names attached with you, you get fired, cause you are damaged goods.
The end is near.

I have to agree with Tom on this one, the repercussions from the suspension / firing of O & A will be minimal at best. I think you are overestimating the amount of ppl that joined specifically for them. Giving a minimum refund for the few ppl that will actually call to complain will not even put a scratch on there bottom line.

According to talker or whatever the fuck the radio magazine is called said on XM an avg 1.2 million people listen to O&A. Now it's a known fact from XM that yesteray over 2800 subs were canceled over the average for a normal day. Take a normal day when O&A are emplyed, let x stand for the normal amount of subs canceled in a day. 2800 extra on top of x cause of O&A. You can roughly put that at over 3500 actual cancelations in the first 24 hours. That was just one day, and yeah not all the 1.2 million people will say fuck XM, but if you think they won't noice you're nuts. O&A had the highest rated show on XM and majority of those fans are fucking animals who do nothing but support the boys in any way possible. They have no quams about canceling, and why do you think XM gave the 30 day suspension? They try and talk people into staying like fucking dell customer service, cause they still want as much as they can get while the casual listener still thinks there's a chance they'll be back so they should hang on to the XM. And again, yesterday's busiest part of the day had the "few ppl" calling to cancel waiting for up to an hour. The wait time to cancel a sub or two was an hour, what is it a fucking amusment park? Damn people must really want to join Oprahs book club show. I bet it was so busy not cause of O&A, cause people wanna hear the fucking nascar hicks talk about nothing, that's why it was so fucking busy. All 3 O&A fans canceled then the wait began to get all the other more popular programming XM has to offer.

It won't matter. All signs point to them being done. The sources that are saying that are not the XM sources or industry sources...they are show sources. O&A are done with XM.
And XM doesn't care, because they are preparing for the merger that may or may not happen, with Stern at the morning helm.
|
|
|
Post by cactusjames on May 16, 2007 16:07:20 GMT -5
I'm not saying they care, they're just going to see a decrease in listeners. And leave it to Mel and Stern to stick it to the boys behind the scenes instead of on air. They could have merged, gone head and to head and finally had it out. But they decide to presuure XM is getting rid of them. And I'm not saying it's a conspiricy, but a lot of this backlash is due to Mel not wanting the bad press cause of the merger. I mean a lot of higher ups at XM, like Elo stuck with them through certain things, I can't beleive one bad joke would make XM say no more, there had to be pressure somewhere else besides advertisers and special interest groups, and other people than just XM brass. And I beleive the poker boat was a joint thing cause Ron and Fez were giving away tix to callers on their FM show so CBS probably has something planned, but hopefully not.
Well Op will be at FH Rileys a lot more now.

So I see in todays Daily News that O & A announced they will be giving away tickets to 10,000 servicemen stationed over by the Boston Traveling Virus show. Yeah, thats admirable...
And a sign of pathetic ticket sales.
Another sign of that is the constant emails I get to my Yahoo account advertising "special $10 tickets!" to the local stops on the tour. I think O&A have finally become a non-factor as media players.

|
|
Post by IronHorse4 on Jul 19, 2007 9:11:00 GMT -5
I don't think they are non-factors overall...I just think they are bigger in some places than others. Though it is troubling that they had so much left over in Boston, and the ratings are in the toilet in Philly, two markets which they owned.

Another chilling thing making the rounds, there are ads on the radio trade boards looking for a "producer for the morning show" on K-Rock, along with a full description of duties. Um, wouldnt O&A have their own producer? Do they? So now speculation is rampant that they are either going to be moved back to the afternoons, or off of 92.3 altogether.

|
|
Post by IronHorse4 on Jul 19, 2007 9:31:26 GMT -5
I saw that, but I don't see them being removed from K-Rock all together, simply because they are under contract with Infinity.
Until Imus talks flared back up, I could have actually seen O&A going to the FAN.
Ultimately, though, I think O&A are victims of their own XM promotion. I think so many of their fans bought XM that people listen on XM. I know I do, despite having a local affiliate of the show here.

Another discussion making the rounds, kicked off by a rumor in the Daily News and being fed on Sniffen's board is that STAR may end up as the new morning host on K-Rock. We shall see...

It's fucking horrible the shit that beats them out in Philly, Preston and Steve suck, and that mar ble bit was fucking pitiful. But justin's right, has nothing to do with OnA all together, it's more the stupid people in Philly. And the show in Boston, Menino won't let them do a show IN Boston, they go somewhere outside Boston if I'm not mistaken. That makes it hard for some people to make the trek, but they still suck for not ucking it up. But fuck those Cunt Ears who don't go, I was at Jones Beach, they're missing a good 3 hours of laffs and laffs. Fuck, Rich Vos killed, and he opens the goddamn show.
Happy Endings, number 4 on Amazon. Make Norton number 1.

Keep in mind last year they sold tickets in NY , the supposed O&A home, for 92 cents.
I wonder if ticket sales suck this year because people who paid full price and got burned last year are just waiting for the big discounts to fill the place

Yeah, they were huge in Philly before they were fired from Infinity the first time. Never recovered when they came back. Or, the people in Philly are just listening to them on XM.
I wonder what their latest trend looks like. They are gone here in Pittsburgh, as the all-talk station they were on here changed their format back to Top 40.

I don't think so. Philly's a big market and it's hurts they dumped the boys, but it isn't like they don't have a fanbase there. It's just for some reason the morons in Philly love Scott and Todd over OnA. And plus OnA are number 1, in important demos, in a few different major cities. Again, they'll be back in Philly soon enough, watch.
The big concern for the boys is XM, not FM stations.
