Well, I've been kicking this around for a while in one form or another. As I bundled together a heap of CDs as part of a regular trade with a member of a hockey board I figured why not import that theory here. So I was on the train last night coming down from a rotton end of month, cherrypicking my favorite tunes on the soon to be retired from my armory MP3 player. Lots of those songs are hidden gems, and they run the gamut from thrash to doom to power metal to a couple of cherry pop numbers. So I was like, "why not throw these on a CD and pass it around." It will be a Sheriff Tom especial. And what I will do with that mixed gem is hand it off/shoot it off to absolutely anyone who wants a copy with one simple condition.....I get one back. Burn up a mix, and trade it up. Do it with anyone and everyone. It could be your 15 absolute favorite songs of all time. It can be your 15 favorite songs today. It can be 15 songs you blast when you drink or do your drugs. It can be 15 songs you play when you are angry. Buy a box of little padded envelopes, a handful of blank CDs, and some stamps, and get ready to drop em in the mail. So I am concocting a playlist now. More to come, and then I will start taking orders. Feel free to crap on the idea, I am used to it. I mean, I started the Bad Movie Club on here, after all. Tristania will be on mine!

I like this idea. I am NOTORIOUS for joining CD Trading schemes and NOTORIOUS for not following up on delivery! I will do better - I love this because I am a lot like Jack Black's character in High Fidelity - I'll get a theme in my head, and burn a CD accordingly!

Hey, just bought the book of High Fidelity....love the movie.
I'll get down with this, I've already got tons of playlists to pick from.

I'll get my first one locked and loaded in the next couple of days, and start fielding orders. This first one will be Train Tracks - my favorite tunes to click when I am riding home on the LIRR, drinking a beer after a horrid day at work. And I can tell you without kicking up spoilers the tracks are all over the board, but I think a fair amount of them will end up being some of your faves, too.

So the rule is; pass a mix along?
No content restrictions? All decisions made by the DJ?

I always thought the cool thing about "tape trading" was to hip people to new music and get hipped to new music that you may not have otherwise ever heard.
So, my disclaimer is, you're ("you" meaning anyone involved in trading CDs with me) not going to get any CDs from me with "Stairway To Heaven" or "Back In Black" on it - at best you're going to get bands you've never heard of before - at worst you're going to get songs you've never heard from bands you know.

Cheers to that. I am subscribing to the same theories. A lot of my music is under the radar to begin with. But yeah, to coin a song we discussed a few days ago, I may like Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" but it wont be on this CD. This is all about pimping the tunes many of you have not heard, and I am hoping for same.

OK folks...my first contribution is burned. The theme is "SoCal Rocks" - southern California bands from the somewhat-known to the obscure bring you a variety of SoCal rock n roll stylings from punk to surf to roots music.
I'm ready to ship - who's in!?!?!
a little preview (for those of you who've ever rode a motorcycle):
I’m not encased in metal And I do not watch TV I like my motorcycle Because it helps me to feel free The highways and byways are overrun With Acura gangster clones And soccer moms in S.U.V.’s Who are talking on the phone Fuck the world! Forever two wheels! To all the crazy drivers whipping in and out of lanes start using your turn signals or suck my lock and chain Your car’s all over the road You’ve got alcohol on your breath It gets me homicidal Because for me it’s life and death Fuck the world! Forever two wheels! You drive like a simp And you think you’re a pimp In your climate controlled cage I’ve got hostile envy and it sets me in a rage You’d better hope I don’t survive If you get me in a crash Cuz I’m looking to kill you And they call me scooter trash Fuck the world! Forever two wheels!

So what happens after we receive a disc, Tom? Do you come back to this thread and offer our thoughts/critiques on the music?

Hey, I was sitting around and I kept thinking about FTW. My buddy used to say Forever Two Wheels when I said Fuck the World. When I googled Forever Two Wheels I realized that it was the Smut Peddlers!!!! I definetely remember them from my LA days. Great shit!

That would be high grade. I would hope so. You dont need to break down every octave or note, but it would be cool to hear people bandying about each others tastes.

I'm fairly sure that the FTW acronym was first coined by the Hell's Angels as a pun - "Fuck The World" describing their attitudes and "Forever Two Wheels" which needs no explanation.
Of course my buddy Pete in the Vagos would probably smash me like a grape for crediting The Red And White with anything!

"it would be cool to hear people bandying about each others tastes" -- that's what I'm hoping for as well.
I fancy myself as a very musically astute person, and very open minded to new music, so I am looking forward.

I've got my 2nd installment of my contribution to the Hecklehouse Mixed CD Club planned in my head...and most of the track list already compiled (in my head).
I'm a little bummed that there isn't more participation in this. Only three participants thus far.

What?? No more BAD MOVIES??!!?? Say it aint so! Screw Domi and his highbrow, lower east side indi film fuckers. I want B movies......No, C movies. I've been trolling Sci-Fi channel for worthy installments. When I want to think, I read a book. When I want complete idiocy, it's the BAD MOVIE club.....or the bleachers.
Python v. Boa was just on again this past weekend.........It's a classic.

Yeah, you of all people should be involved. You're a regular when the convo turns to music in and around here.
I will be burning my copies this weekend. Cho, so far, so good on your offering. I will get more into detail as I get some more spins out of it. In fact, I will spin it now. Marc and 9, start working on CDs for me, you're on my list.

I'm just about done with my first installment and I've got some ideas on a second as well. Mine will be in the mail by tomorrow to Chris, and I'll post some details as soon as I do finish.
