I received 4 discs from 9 and have been seriously delinquent in burning my stuff. I went through 2 of 9's CDs and can send then over to Tom (since I have his address) when I'm done.
Hell, I can even drop them off at Tom's crib since I work in Woodbury.

Liz, I had not heard from ya - i need you to verify your address and I will send your CD right out - I thought you were out, regarding this.

I will need your address too LIZ, to send mine.
So far, I'm a few songs into Tom's offering - the standout thus far is Amorphis...more to come.
Oh FUCK YEAH, now we're talkin' Tom. This Pro-Pain song kicks ass. Are they a Northern California band? I think they are or were on Epitaph at one time - primarily a punk label. I seem to recall a Pro-Pain video on an Epitaph video show where the entire video showed them driving in a car, singing their song.
OK Tom, the Graveworm tune is creepy. I can't be sure, but I think I'm actually afraid to listen to that one again.

Funny sort of band, Pro-Pain. That track there is from their debut offering, friggin' 15 years ago. 11 CDs later, they are still pumping them out, and seriously kicking ass. They are the AC/DC of that genre in that you know what you are going to get from them every time, they pretty much "follow the formula" but they nail it all the time.
East-Coast outfit, not west. NYC hardcore style.
Couple of milestones for them - first off, I think I have seen them live more than any other band (they were regulars in opening up for the bands the next step up the ladder back in the day) and secondly I have more Pro-Pain tracks on my MP3 player than that of any other band, just under 130.
Obviously, I can make you a Hell of a no-filler Pro-Pain mix.
As to record labels, their work has been done for Energy, Mayhem, Nuclear Blast, Spitfire, and Candlelight Records. Not sure, maybe Energy was an Epitaph spinoff.
One more "punk" note - bassist and frontman Gary Meskil was a member of seminal legends The Crumbsuckers.

Well, there was a label called Energy Alive records and the name seemed to toggle between "Energy", "Alive" and "Energy Alive" that featured the U.S. Bombs, The Stitches, and some other SoCal punk acts.

They did their work for Energy in the 92-95 era. I think Billy Milano's M.O.D. did a couple of recordings with them too. In fact, Milano's entire backing band on one of his recordings back then were guys who drifted in and out of Pro-Pain over the years, so it was like listening to yet another Pro-Pain CD but with a different singer.

OK, so I've been through the T_MACHINE Mix 2 1/2 times now. The standouts are:
Attacker - funny, the singing style reflects everything I hated about metal when I was a die-hard, mohawk mania punk rocker as a kid. But this tune is somewhat nostalgic for me...and makes me think of an era when I RULED THE SCHOOL - the 80s.
Amorphis - just a good rockin' track, nothing to "DEATH" or "SPEED" or "NU" about this metal...just a good rock track
Cirith Ungol - this one might be my favorite metal tune off this CD, aside from Pro Pain. I like the acoustic additions and I appreciate the nod to Sabbath in the guitar work.
Vanilla Ninja - what can you say about this tune? They will ever be my favorite band, but it's like hearing an Abba song and saying "Ohhh FUCK I HATE THAT SONG" - it just isn't done. They're fun innocent songs.
Crimson Pirates - they are making me laugh.
The Pro-Pain song is by far the standout - cool song!!!!
Solid offering Tom! Many thanks!!!

OK. I am now firing up the Rude Boy Soundsystem. This disc, of the Hecklehouse CD Club offerings thus far, is most closely in line with my own personal CD collection...at least as far as the stylings are concerned. Not to be alarmed Marc, from first glance of the track listing I can see Prince Buster, Junior Murvin, and the Melodians are the only artists that I already have in my own collection.

I'm glad you liked a healthy portion of it, especially as with this debut mix I was totally all over the board.
Couple of retorts on the bands you mentioned...
That Attacker song is from a recent disc, after the band had been disbanded for some 15 plus years. I got into Attacker exactly around the "era" you mentioned - that 80s style. It was cool that they revisited it, and still have that sound. I love that song.
Amorphis are a Finnish band, morphed from more of a death-metal style into what they are doing now. They have a highly anticipated new opus coming out this next month, and I will be all over it. I am taking notes here, and will end up making you a cool Amorphis mix down the line.
Cirith Ungol I would have pegged as something a bunch of you would enjoy. They have that doomy presence, nods to Sabbath, and are old-school in their own right...that offering cames from that same 80s time period. They have a "fantasy" bent with the lyrics, and most of their songs are that same grinding style.
Vanilla Ninja - yeah, speaks for itself...true, true, its like a ROCKING Abba....its feel-good stuff!
And Crimson Pirates - thats what its all about. Fun to get party to, and sing along to, and i can not wait to get back to the Ren Faire on the 23rd to see/hear them live by the beer garden.
Glad you liked it, man!
Also, i will start peeping and commenting your disc. Had the initial spins, had my immediate likes and "go back to that one" tracks, and I need to put it back on and I'll let you know what I think. Thank you too.

Cirith Ungol slightly reminds me of another late 80s - late 90s southern California punk/rock/blues/metal band I think you might like called Still Dreadful. I will have to hunt that disc down in my collection and get you a copy.

Cirith Ungol has had my office talking today.....I have three people from India, one from Russia, and one from China here and to a person they were wide-eyed at tha track. I like to think of it as Conan Rock - the type of shit that makes me wanna paint a woman holding a dragon by a chain on my van conversion (if I had one)

Cirith Ungol were a Bakersfield product. The guitarist on those tracks is now dead. They released a couple of other things later, which I have only on cassette. I friggin' love that bass, and the sound of those vocals. I used to blast Cirith Ungol and look at my brothers comic books, or leaf through my wrestling magazines, brings back old memories of just chilling out for me.
As to Graveworm...yeah, I guess it can come across creepy. Emma has a title affixed to that sort of fare - "Crazy Scary Daddy Music." I tend to not play that stuff around here all that much. Once a band named Moonspell made her start to cry in the car, when she was a baby. The old death metal thing, although I have been able to deflect that by saying its "Cookie Monster" singing on the tracks.
I dont know - I thought Graveworm fit cause it would be a cool song for you guys to play when you are really mad at something / someone. And, Cho - as creepy as it is, is it not somewhat MELODIC?

It is somewhat melodic...sounds like the kind of song that should be on a horror movie soundtrack...and not a Freddie or Jason horror movie...more like a movie with supernatural shit in it - satan and ghosts and all that.

You wanna laugh? I mentioned this on here somewhere or another, but its probably way lost and everyone missed it - Graveworm covers Bonnie Tylers' I Need A Hero" on this latest disc. Imagine that sound, and that song....they also do a killer cover of Iron Maiden's "Fear of the Dark."
Marc...got yours today - I will give the initial spin tomorrow at the place of employment. Looks good, and thanks!

OK Marc - got through your disc a few times actually.
Great stuff. The funny thing is that I own tons of dance-hall, ska (traditional and two tone), and reggae comps, but not much in the way of specific artists.
The Police And Thieves track is great. That song is funny - it's kinda like Sloop John B. About a billion surf acts have covered it and whose to say where the original came from. Reggae/Ska is like that...there are tons of versions of single songs out there...Love Of The Common People, for example.
The Judge Dread song - I've heard before. Not sure if I already own it or not - good stuff.
Track 6 and 11 "Rude Boy Ska" and "Chatty Chatty Mouth" were the standouts for me. Great tracks there!!! That will surely prompt me to seek out more Gladiators stuff.
The Papa Levi track was very good. Brings me to a question - do you like or have you listened to Shinehead? I'm a BIG fan. He's crossed rap with the dance hall style for the most part, and I'm not really well versed on his entire body of work...but I have been a huge fan of the "Unity" record for a long time. You should check it out, if you haven't already (don't worry, when I say RAP, I don't mean he's like Shabba Ranks or any of that crap).
I'm a mild fan of Peter Tosh so I like that track (just noticed, looking up his bio, that he died on 9/11...albeit 9/11/87)
Alton Ellis track is good too - I just recently got hipped to him through last.fm
Your disc is definitely a welcome addition (and fills a few holes) in my ska/reggae/dance-hall collection. BTW, way to upstage everyone with the fancy sleeve.
Are you a Two-Tone era fan at all?
PS - Tom, I threw back in a little Cirith Ungol this morning.
I just realized I have yet to get to the 4th installment of 9's - The Garden State Parkway Clusterfuck, and as I'm typing this I'm cracking up at the Scatterbrain medley "Down With The Ship"

FUCK YEAH , 9!!!!
Way to drop a Turbonegro track on your your Garden State Parkway disc!!!!!
Knowing what a metal fan Tom is, I've promoted Turbonegro as a band metal fans should investigate a few times on this and the old board. I need to get some Scandinavian Leather and Apocalypse Dudes tracks Tom's way!
I think that I pretty much HATE Limp Bizkit, but listening to the live track 9 included, I think I know where Henry Rollins is coming from when he said, "If I were 15 years old and angry, this would be my favorite band." I do think it's funny how Fred Dursts lyrics are all about machismo and being tough, but his voice sounds like Peter Brady in the episode where he was going through puberty.

Chris,
The Gladiators are one of, if not, my favorite roots reggae band. If you looking...seek out Trenchtown Mix-up their 1st LP. If I had to save 10cds from my collection from destruction that would be one of them. Alber Griffiths still tours (and lives in Cali, I think)
I saw Shinehead in a few times in 1987-88, once with Eek-a-Mouse (who is a dead ringer for Dave Winfield) when his album Rough and Rugged came out. The big hit was Gimme No Crack - which is ironic since I understand he became a crackhead. He fell off because back then he was too rap for dancehall and too dancehall for rap. I loved Dancehall - you know how some genre's have specific era's (punk 75-78 - late 80's Hair Metal, etc.) well dancehall had it's finest hours in 86-88 (along with Hip Hop) and I loved all of that shit. Got TONS from back then on 12" and tape.
Papa Levi is one of the originators of that DJ style - pre-rap era MC's. Realize in that tune he speeds up slowly throughout the entire song and doesn't stop chatting at all. He's like Josey Wales another fav from the DJ era.
The Tosh tune is actually an old Wailers track in their pre-dread days and you can hear Marley singing back up.
I love 2Tone. I had alot SHARP Skinhead friends growing up. Lots of English 2nd Wave Ska - like the Specials, Selectors, the Beat, Madness etc, thats how I backed into reggae as a kid - through the Skatalites and Justin Hines, and Laurel Aikens - all Skinhead moonstomper songs. But I'm really just a Clash fan. They opened the door for all that for me. These days, I dig the DUB PISTOLS a UK ska/dance group.
I could go on and on but I am glad you enjoyed it. Hope everyone else does too.

Any of you know of a band called Opiate For The Masses? I don't and it doesn't really sound like my cup of tea. BUT...turns out (name dropper) their drummer "SEVEN" (whatever) is an old old old friend of mine...hadn't seen him in years, but he and I and the member of his band at the time were very tight. I'm still pretty tight with some of the other guys from the old band. He played some drums for The Revolting Cocks and Vanilla Ice as well...but now he's doing this deal: www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw-uSvr8YZk

I owe a bunch of you more detailed ruminations on your offerings. I am enjoying them a lot, that I will say up front. I do owe Liz a CD. I have been busy, music-wise, loading my MP3 player and playing with that from home, otherwise I would start on more mixed CD projects.
My next one wont be so doom and death oriented. I will take a page from the rest of you and go for more a "party" mix.

I too, owe some folks one and I am also working on another offering. Perhaps not sticking with one genre and going for a bit broader appeal.
I have to say, I love 9's Turnpike Agression mix, especially during a morning shower, to help wake me up.
