As I type this, a copy of my first offering is burning. Its done. I am going to have a detailed listing explaining whats on there. It will raise brows. Some straight ahead metal, a lot of gothic fused stuff, a couple of songs in foreign tongue, a poppy tune that is totally out of place, and it even closes off with a Pirate shanty.
This thing is all over the board, but if my train ride was 80 minutes instead of 40, its pretty likely these 14 tunes would be the 14 I would play on the way home while I sipped some brew.
So far I am sizzling up copies for Cho and Marc - anyone else speak your piece.

I'm in. My will be titled "Flashbacks to the Rock Ridge Saloon."
Could be stuff that I heard there, on the way over or on the way home.

Good stuff, Liz. I can vouch for those Rock Ridge flashbacks.
So where we all stand with this? Looks like a heap of us have some burning and sending to do. I actually did rip 3 copies, and will do a couple of more in the next couple of days. Picked up envelopes, but I need to get more stamps. Promise this is going out by the weekend. If I do not have your address and you want a CD from me, PM me your address.

OK, my slacker ass will be burning CDs tonight. I accept all yelling and insults. Who's in? How are we exchanging addresses?

Just to let everyone know, I have finished the first installment; Rude Boy Soundsystem - with classic Ska and Rocksteady Reggae. I was down with Strep Throat for a couple of weeks so I didn't have the energy to get out to the post office to drop these things off.
BUT I am a bit better now, and have burned three copies and stolen some envelopes from my office, so I am ready to ship. I have T's and Cho's addresses.
Anyone else want one PM me, or post here......

OK, finally got the stamps I needed, and these will be in the mail tomorrow, in time for some Labor Day weekend spinning. I have your addresses, but Liz - if you want one, just verify your address for me (although I do have one in hand)
Again, my mix is quite the eclectic one, and I doubt any of you will like all of it, but I am sure all of you will like some of it. I have a bunch of ideas for future offerings, and they will not take nearly as long for me to formulate, burn, and send. Sorry for the delays, but this was my idea and I can be eccentricly slow about it.

Ok, ripped up, packed up, stamped up, and dropping in the box tomorrow.
The musical exhibitionist I am, here is the track listing with a little bit of background on the songs.
1 ATTACKER - "Soul Taker" - vintage-style power metal, old-school Jersey thrash band. This song kicks serious ass, I can not stop playing it. Thats why it leads off the disc, its a place of honor
2 MY DYING BRIDE - "Thy Ravens Wings" - Kings of gloom. This band is just plain miserable. This plodding tune makes me grin, and sticks in the head.
3 DRACONIAN - "Morningstar" - probably my overall favorite band right now, a mix of doom and death metal. This song is slow, mournful, creepy, and heavy as Hell.
4 TRISTANIA - "Equilibrium" - a solid "Beauty and the Beast" band with a mix of deep male growls and angelic female stylings, this song is just gold.
5 AMORPHIS - "The Smoke" - Finnish band that just rocks. This song is almost radio friendly at parts, but then again, no
6 GRAVEWORM - "Timeless" - death metal. Band is compared to Cradle of Filth, the vocalist is probably a clone. I like this Italian outfit better. This tune is pretty in your face, but quite catchy.
7 CIRITH UNGOL - "Finger Of Scorn" - My God. This song is CLASSIC. This band of California stoners had an epic right here. From the opening acoustic strumming to the ethereal one-of-a-kind vocalist, this has to be heard and played over and over. As an aside, the bass style is the Les Claypool Primus-y sounding bass, over Sabbathy-type music.
8 AGALLOCH - "Great Cold Death Of The Earth" - heavy, progressive, crushing. This song even has contra bass. Just a solid tune, great to listen to in a snowstorm. This is a true "icy winter band."
9 THERION - "Ljusalfheim" - This band mixes power metal and classical metal. Electric guitars and choirs, trenor and alto vocals, this song is just bombastic.
10 LACRIMOSA - "Allein Zu Zweit" - kept with the classical theme a bit here. This is a gothic band from Germany. Brooding and melancholy. Vocals are in German. I like German vocals.
11 WITHIN TEMPTATION - "Candles" - this song HAD to make the cut, even though its a burn from a burn. Another "Beauty and the Beast" band, this song may be THE best song I have ever heard in that genre, and I am a huge fan of that genre. This may be my overall favorite song to close my eyes and sit back, sipping a beer, on those rare days I imbibe on the way home.
12 PRO-PAIN - "Pound for Pound" - last minute addition - I needed a short song, and this song has been a mainstay with me for 15 years. Early metal-core rappish stylings. This band is STILL going after all that time, and I now have all 127 of their commercial released tunes on my MP3 player, and here's a great one from their debut.
13 MUCKY PUP - "I Am" - just a feel good song from a noted Jersey hardcore-punk outfit from back in the day. This song contains a Sepultura riff looped and played backwards over and over, with some catchy summertime style vox up above.
14 VANILLA NINJA - "Bad Girls" time for pop! This Estonian all-girl pop band is catchy as Hell, easy on the eyes for the hornballs, and very sappy even when they are rocking. This song is so far out of place, I am sure you will enjoy it as much as I do
15 CRIMSON PIRATES - "Haul Away, Joe" - what better way to end than with a Pirate Shanty? This is fun to sing aloud while waving a frothy mug. This band are stalwarts at this kind of thing, and their take on old pirate and sea songs, Irish drinking ditties, and sad tunes of maiden and lass lost are quite quality.
And there it is, free for the taking! Just shoot me one back. Cho, Nettles 9, and Marco - your CDs are on the way!

Liz has been scant with this, although she has been posting elsewhere on the board. I would consider her out at this time. Also, just an update, mine were indeed dropped in the mailbox yesterday morn.

Well, now I know why "9" was so under the vest in the discussions even though he was in on this....got his envelope yesterday and, well, I wont spoil anything.
But I must say, good work, and thanks man! Oh, and Cho, you were first to get on board and ship yours out, its been a fun listen, and I need to dig deeper into it, and start commenting on the tracks.

9 - I got your package as well! Thanks! I have the music at work with me today and I will listen...looks good! Should I send your disc ( singular .. ) back to the return address on the shipping label? So far...a HUGE thumbs up on the "#9" CD - a very original theme too!! When I read it, I was bummed that I didn't think of it.

Wow, Geez 9 you are prolific. Just got 'em last night after the game.
Gotta love the SOD - and was that Merauder is saw in there too???
Got a full playlist for this weekend.
Mine should be winging their way to you guys as we speak, and perhaps will be awaiting you when you get home. Give me a shout when you get it.
Cho, I've been killing my brother at work with your disc. Reminds me of being stuck in traffic on the 101 and blasting my way through it with agression.

Well, Cho, looks like we were not the only ones thinking cover tunes.
I will burn one of those up in due time, also a drinking themed party one. Other ideas I have are underrated tunes from underrated bands, depressing songs, just plain fun tunes, comedic but rocking songs, all-power metal disc, things like that. It will go on and on.

To me, the king of all "comedic but rocking tunes" is that "She Fucking Hates Me" song by an otherwise crappy band, Puddle Of Mud.
RE 9's "#9" disc - "I did like this, I did it like that...I did it with the wiffle ball bat" is one of the all-time great lyrics.
Glad you like the disc Marc.

OK, so keeping in mind what I hoped this CD exchange would accomplish (turning people on to music they might not have otherwise given a chance)
After listening to 9's "#9" CD:
Love the Iron Maiden tune - loved a tune from a band I hate. Interesting.
I don't think I've ever listened to a complete Kid Rock song in my life. And from what I've seen on TV the guy is a complete douchebag! But I'm listening to a song called "Hillbilly Stomp" and I really like it. I don't want to like it…but I do.
The War Machine track was nice. Great band, one of the greatest ever.
I liked the Manowar track a lot too - a band I would never have given a listen otherwise.
Now I'm on to the covers CD:
HAHAHA - I just brought up the Nights In White Satin cover by the Dickies in another thread. LOVE the Disturbed cover of Tears For Fears - they actually made what I always considered a shit song likeable. REM covering U2 - pretentious annoying asswipes, covering even MORE pretentious asswipes (sorry, you lost me on that one 9..hahaha)

That Maiden tune is like the most commercial track they ever did. In fact, Bruce wrote that for his debut solo album (which is plain old rock and roll) but Steve Harris liked it enough to coax him to bring it into the Maiden fold.
Manowar are so bombastic and over the top even people who are not interested stop and listen when they are on.
As to Kid Rock, been listening to him since the mid-90s. Hillbilly Stomp is one of my least favorite Kid tracks. But he is quite good at all he does.
9, the covers CD was great fun. Nice mix there. Yo, that Maiden Tull cover is off the charts - I had not heard it until I bought an Eddie Box Set a few years ago, that cover had gone right by me. Ironically enough, Maiden got more "regular radio play" and attention with that cover track than they did for "Run to the Hills" and other tunes that would sneak on the radio time and again, according to Steve Harris.

Listening to Disturbed's Phil Collins cover! HA! What's with this band covering crap songs! But kudos to them - I like their versions much better.
Love the Jonathan Coulton cover of "Baby Got Back" - another totally shit song make likable!
Now listening to Def Leppard "Me And My Wine" - takes me back to a time when Def Leppard actually was a rock n roll band, pre Pyromania gay pop-stardom.

I started out intending to do one CD and just couldn't decide which way to go, so I ended up just running with all four. It was a lot of fun putting together, actually. I'm down at LBI so I haven't gotten to listen to any of the other CDs yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to them.

As of yesterday, I had not seen yours.
I was spinning my own over the weekend, I dont think a lot of you will enjoy most of it. A lot of gloom and doom. I am currently working on another one that is more feel good / party sort of tunes.
