That 5th goal should have been overturned. Bad job by the replay official.
But wow...what a comeback.

Yup...that 5th goal should have been overturned...but exciting shit nonetheless. And who knows, if that 5th goal was overturned, maybe things play out that the Stars don't come back and score their 5th goal, and maybe OT is forced anyway.

Leaving for the garden in a few hours, just quickly wanted to say fuck the Ice-landers and Fuck You DiPi. I hope he takes a dive and slides into center ice and gets his head fucking crushed. I also hope Simon starts some shit and gets his ass beat. I want the the ice-landers to be looking even further up at the 1st place rangers.

All I know is two losses in a row at the crapiseum. It doesn't sit well with the Rangers or the Ranger faithful. And also, blame the league for the 10 day span without playing a game or whatver it was, the Rangers went from last to first cause they've been playing solid hocky and guys have been steping up when they needed to. The rangers dug themselves a hole and got out of it, the turnaround the team has had shows they are a legit team that when pulling in the same direction put up Ws. The entire team. I don't wanna hear this crap they're in first cause of more games played, we started off shitty and rebounded like a real team does, the isles started off hot and cooled down, like a mediocre team does.

Whoo hoo! What ya got James, you dillhole? DP gets his 100th career win on the Garden ice tonight. Easy eve too, what did you guys get, 18 shots? Islanders, once again pegged by the pundits to suck wind, are now 11-6-0 and 3-0-0 against the Rangers on the season. So go ahead and chirp, Cactjerk James! You HBK lover! I don't wanna hear this crap they're in first cause of more games played, we started off shitty and rebounded like a real team does, the isles started off hot and cooled down, like a mediocre team does. Really now. LOL! LMAO!!! Islander hockey!!!!!!!

I'm not happy. Goals are still hard to come by and it sucks. Yeah 18 shots isn't great and easy pickings for cockbag DiPi, but everything I said is true, and one game doesn't chan ge that, good the isles have the rangers number, it won't last, just cause they have three wins over the rangers doesn't mean they're a top team in the league. There are plenty of teams better than them and depsite last nights outcome the rangers are one of those teams.

I am very happy about this.
Board of governors approve new schedule
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The NHL finally voted to change the format for the schedule Thursday night, ending a year-long saga that featured much debate among owners.
And in the end they returned to the pre-lockout schedule, which features six games against each divisional opponent instead of the current eight and also guarantees at least one game every year against all the other conference teams. The vote easily got the necessary two thirds majority from owners to pass - the votes going 26 to 4.
The 82-game schedule next season will feature 24 divisional games, 40 against the rest of the conference and 18 versus the other conference - 15 against every single team in the other conference and three wild-card games. The three Western Canadian teams will play a home-and-home with the three Eastern Canadian teams for their wild-card games.
It's believed Anaheim, Boston, New Jersey and the New York Islanders were the only votes against.
"This was an attempt to be responsive to the fans," NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said after the meeting. "And we did it notwithstanding that this is likely to be the third year in a row with record attendance and the fact that divisional games are better attended than any others we did want to be responsive to the fans."
The current format has been in existence since the lockout ended and has ignited much debate not only among owners and GMs but also with fans and media. It features eight games versus each divisional opponent - too many according to some - and only 10 games (five on the road) against non-conference opponents.
Superstar Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins, for example, finally plays his first career regular-season games in Edmonton, Vancouver and Calgary next week - in his third year in the league. This season the unbalanced schedule also has the Oilers, Flames and Canucks not playing a single regular-season game against Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa.
Now every team will see every team again next season. But instead of a three-year commitment to the format, the league will go on a year-by-year basis for now.
"Our fans are telling us this is what they want," said Calgary Flames chairman Harley Hotchkiss. "They want to see Crosby, (Alex) Ovechkin and (Ilya) Kovalchuk. Everybody got to see Wayne Gretzky when he played. This is a happy medium."
A happy medium because other Western governors wanted a home-and-home between every team in the league, but that wasn't going to cut it with several Eastern teams who didn't want to change from the current schedule because the travel is so good.
Kelly says the players were happy to see the schedule cut down the divisional games but actually preferred going to an 84-game schedule which would break down as follows: 24 divisional games, 30 against the rest of the conference and 30 against the other conference - a home and home.
"First of all it's never been formally proposed to us by the union and it's something that we'll talk about," Bettman said.
If enough support is generated in the 84-game idea it could possibly see the light of day in two years.

LOL at the Devils and Islanders being opposed since they only sell out when they play the Rangers....

Hey, its their perogative. But sanity won out, and they will need to live with it. I'm on the other side of the issue than the Islanders were - I would rather see Jarome Iginla hit Coliseum Ice than the Rangers for the 6th time.

Exactly. We lose a home sellout. And Boston probably voted against it because they are cheap fucks and don't want to travel cross-continent every year. As for Anaheim...they sellout practically every game anyway, so why travel.
On the bright side, I was dreading not being able to see the Devils but once every 6 years in Chicago. Thank goodness the league came to their senses, even if the Devils don't like it.
I have enjoyed the Devils coming to Pittsburgh 4 times a year, though.

IS Jason LaBarbara the worst goalie in the league?

Where is that coming from? His save percentage is over 900. There are a bunch of goalies this year (including Dom Hasek at .846 or so) struggling far more.

I see this guy, although I am only mildly a Kings fan through osmosis from the wife, on a weekly basis, and he BLOWS! He blew last year, and he blows this year. Year after year the Kings run this platooning system at goalie, while other teams concentrate and finding a solid #1 and a competent backup.

So I am looking forward to the Winter Classic, this New Years Day. While many and most will be watching and enjoying college gridiron action, I will be partaking in some hockey action in the afternoon. Pittsburgh and Buffalo going at it. I wonder what the weather will be like. Rain will not surprise me. I tried to click the weather channel site, but had trouble accessing today. I know that was one concern going into this. Last New Years Day in Buffalo it hit nearly 50 degrees. I have had fun reading about the prep towards this game, accounts of other open-ice extravaganzas, and other bon mots around this contest, on NHL.COM. Here is some tremendously intriguing info regarding ice-prep. Dan Craig, who is overseeing construction of the rink inside Ralph Wilson Stadium for the NHL Winter Classic, gave NHL.com the schedule he and his staff will be working under in the days leading up to the New Year's Day festivities.
Dec. 23 – Survey the field inside Ralph Wilson Stadium after the Buffalo Bills' football game against the New York Giants. Lay roads in order to move equipment to the field before midnight. At midnight the crew steps in and brings equipment on site.
Dec. 24-25 – Install sub-floor, which means the insulation, plywood and plastic.
Dec. 26 – Install piping system and boards. At night cover the piping system with an inch of sand and saturate the sand so it freezes solid.
Dec. 27 – Build first inch of ice by using hoses that will spray a mist.
Dec. 28-29 – Take Zambonis on the ice to do a shave and four hot floods, and then hope to paint the ice white, as well as paint the lines and logos before sealing it with another three-quarters of an inch of ice.
Dec. 30 – Another shave and more hot floods, and prepare for the teams to practice.
Dec. 31 – Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins practice.
Jan. 1 – First puck is scheduled to drop at 1:20 p.m.

I'm a Miami Hurricanes fan, and the only bowl they're going to is the one I just got off, so I will definitely try to catch this game. Wasn't there a rumor going around that they were going to have an Islanders-Rangers game at Yankee Stadium (obviously ain't happening, but I remember reading it)?

Yeah, that rumor was out there, but it was more pie-in-the-sky than anything. I think some local wank dreamed it up once it was officially decided the current Yankee Stadium was closing shop.
I remember NY being discounted as a possible venue for this particular New Years game - well, this part of NY anyway - by the NHL cause of the unpredicable weather. We have a much better shot of being too tepid for the frozen shindig.

The NHL Winter Classic on nbc drew a 2.6 national rating, the best rating for hockey on National TV since 1996.

It was a very good broadcast. Interesting tie in between Bob Costas and the Slapshot characters.
The weather was a factor, and Shittsburgh can put those sweaters back in the trash. Cool to see the old Sabers sweaters, though.

I actually like the Pittsburgh throwbacks, but I also hate black and yellow (probably because of how much I hate the Steelers), so that probably skewed my opinion. And yes, I forgot about the Slapshot stuff -- great call.

I do have to say one thing on Slapshot that usually gets me in trouble. Yeah, its the consumate hockey movie, but a lot of people forget about or ignore the fact that there was a heavy dose of romance in it too. The movie was like 20 minutes or more too long. A lot of the Paul Newman sidestory was draining to watch. At least that is how I remember it after all these years, I will confess its a while since I saw the flick.
I actually liked that stupid hockey movie with Rob Lowe and Pat Swayze in it. Youngblood? I think that was it.
I did not like the powder blue jerseys. I found it funny that not one player on either roster was alive when those duds made their last appearance.
One of the managers here is a HUGE hockey fan and he was bemoaning the fact that he missed the game Sunday cause he "did not know it was on." Um, would you not check? How could you think it was not on where you could see it? Doof.

I actually love those powder blue jerseys. I bought one at a Wheeling Nailers (ECHL) game during the lockout for $50, and now those things are the hottest jersey in the league, going for $150 retail.
The one I actually like better than that is the white jersey they wore back in the late 60s with the light blue trim and a light blue "Pittsburgh" running across diagonally in block shadow letters like the Rangers' style.

so my bro-in-law and father-in-law just got back from a Kings Game Road Trip to the NYC area where they watched the Kings go 2-1 against the Islanders, Devils, and Rangers.
Who woulda thought the Kings could pull that off.
