Interesting stuff. I wonder how many goals this season have been scored at exactly the 10:00 mark of the second period.

I was surprised the odds were so much in favor of it happening. I would have thought they were a bit more askew.

Ditto. I would think at least 1-in-3,600, since there are 60 minutes (obviously times 60 seconds) in a regulation game. If you want to get really picky, no one is going to score in the first two seconds of each period, but whatever.

I will be helping to chaperon my daughter's 4th grade class to a real Ducks practice on Feb 15.

We actually went to a Ducks practice in San Diego while we were running around on the Honeymoon. They came in from out of town on training camp to hold a couple of practices at the arena.
Anyway, ISLANDERS ARE FOR SALE.
Under 100 million, but they are on the market.

Read that on Eklund's column on hockeybuzz.com. He mentioned the Brooklyn possibility. See that even less of a possibility than the Nets going there. That arena isn't happening.
Sad to say, you have to figure one of the teams in the area have to go. Hockey is not popular. It's a shame that it would be the Islanders instead of the Devils (about as objective an opinion as you can get, sports fans) and that it wasn't 15 years ago. But the Devils have their building and have etched their history, and the Islanders are floundering under awful (past and present) leadership run by crooks...you have a County that wants nothing to do with funding a new building...the Isles are toast. It's a shame, and I mean that sincerely. Sucks.

Boy, do the Rangers ever suck. They had a 5-on-3, and not only did they not score on it, but they gave up a goal en-route to getting their shit pushed in by Philthy. How many times do you see that happen?
Devils edge the Sharks today. This year's Devils are different from in past years. Haven't been able to count on Brodeur, so they had to get more offensive. Beat the Bruins and the Sharks in back-to-back games. They won the defensive battle against the Bruins, and they win in a shooting gallery against San Jose. Two best teams in the league, folks. Can't wait for a rested Brodeur to come back.
The Devils will make it to at least the Eastern Conference Finals this year.
Also, been thinking more about this Islanders move to Kansas City. If they move, how do you realign the divisions? Have to put KC in with St. Louis, which means moving the erstwhile Isles to the West. I think maybe you move Nashville to the East, putting them in the Southeast division, and roll Washington up to the Atlantic to re-kindle some old Patrick Division rivalries. Makes sense geographically, too.

So I chaperoned the field trip to the Honda Center Ducks' practice with my daughter's class. I was responsible for a group of 5 kids.
Thanks to a little up close and personal 1 on 5 tutelage from Jean Sebastien Guigere and some experimentation involving q-tips, salt, water, black construction paper and some of Giguere's own forehead sweat, my daughter, myself, and her four friends know all about electrolytes, the importance of proper hydration, and the difference between condensation and precipitation.

They had a 5-on-3, and not only did they not score on it, but they gave up a goal en-route to getting their shit pushed in by Philthy. How many times do you see that happen? Roughly two-thirds of the times the Islanders have 5-on-3s. They should become the first hockey team to decline penalties.

Mike Keenan has 665 career victories as a head coach in the NHL.
Not that I ever want the Devils to lose, but it would have been a neat footnote if his Flames had beaten them last night.

Not to mention the ref pretty much has his hands in his pockets watching that whole brawl un-fold.

Winter Classic today. I so enjoy this new tradition. I have been OD'ing on this stuff the last couple of days, watching most of the 4 hour plus special on it yesterday, and the 2 hours of pregame this morning. Hope for a bangin' game.

OOOF on this one. Ugh.
LA Kings assistant coach Mark Hardy, 51, who played defense for the team from 1979-88 and 92-94 was arrested in DC for sexual misdemeanor....accused by his 21 daughter of "putting his hands down her shorts and touching her without her permission."
Its even hit TMZ. No comment from the Kings yet.

HA! DAUGHTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's worse than the vague reporting of this incident by the LA Kings twitter feed indicating that she was "a relative."

FUCK! The two week long LA Kings courtship of Ilya Kovalchuk is over!
He signs a gaudy contract with the Devils for 17 years!

You have to question the sanity of someone who willingly chooses to spend the next 17 years in Newark.

How about those Kings - off and running. Most wins, second only to Nashville in points.
I've been to three games so far (one pre-season) - 3 wins.

LOL @ The Devils. 5 whole points on the season. What a bunch of doofs.
Having fun watching the Islanders this year. So much young talent, and they are holding their own obviously. Look at the standings! Looking forward to Okposo getting back and pitching a hand. Josh Bailey, my favorite player in hockey right now, is really coming into his own, and may end up quite a force in this league.
Its going to be a fun year. Cho, if Im around flipping channels later on Saturday maybe Ill tune into that Devils / Kings game. I can use a laugh at the Devils expense.
