In what has to be an opening day record, Neil's team went wild with a nice 94 point day. Ben Sheets' complete game played a large part in that, though Aaron Harang and KRod did their parts, contributing a win and a save a piece.
The High Hard Ones, led by Sheriff Tom, also got off to a very nice start, with 80 points, which would have been more, had the Braves not wasted a quality start by Brett Myers.
Knoblauch's number 1 draft pick, Chris Carpenter, who went 9th overall, led Just Too Easy to the first negative night of the season two days ago, and his team's pitching responded the next day with another loss, this time from Dan Haren.
Jose Contreras kicked Capone in the balls yesterday, and when Capone finally managed to get him, Contreras kicked him in the balls again. 1IP, 7 earned runs, a loss, and -17 points, completely negating Dontrelle Willis' 18 point effort. Thanks to Brandon Webb's -1, Capone got exactly zero points in 3 starts. Todd Jones made the day somewhat worthwile, entering the game in relief. Though he did not get a save, he did get a point, which was nice.

Larry .... he was facing the MAN... I know the Man didn't have a GREAT game but you Can't really expect Bedard (as much as I like him - he helped me a lot last year) to beat Mr Santana

no, i didnt expect him to get a W against johan, but i didnt want him to get beaten up. theres a difference losing 3-2 to a pitcher like santana, and getting your dicked kicked in. bedard, got his dick kicked in last night. he couldve pitched against jeff weaver and lost the way he pitched last night.

One or two good starts does not earn respect, no matter when they happen. Jeff Weaver has been, is, and always will be shit. Back to the league:
Tom is on the DL of life right now, and Jose Valverde's arm proved to be just as useless to the High Hard Ones, picking up a -8. The good news for Tom is that most of his team was off yesterday and the points should come as he mends.
The big story right now is how after just a few days into the season the top two teams are the two rookies--Neil on top, and Suzy just beneath him.
Neil has thrusted himself into the lead, but a big push by Suzy has her in a good position.
Justin, Pops and Jose are all tied, looking to leapfrog over Tom and catch Suzy together.

You know, Tom would have a better chance if you picked an actual time to unlock teams rather than 'sometime' after first pitch. I think someone greased your palm.

It wasn't some time after first pitch. It was INSTANTLY after first pitch. And no one complained.

The timing couldn't have been better. Everyone who was interested in making a move right when it opens needed only turn on the television or listen to the radio for the first pitch.

And if you were not near a TV or radio and felt like making the move from your phone or lab top?

Making the move from your phone would be slower. So you lose if you were trying to do that.
And what kind of baseball fan wasn't around a TV or a radio for the opening game of the season?
If you weren't going to be around a TV or radio, then you had to make sure you knew when first pitch was. If it was a priority to make the move, then people would make sure of it. And spare the "well some people have LIVES" malarky. The investment in this league from year to year is more than a drop in the bucket for most of us in the league. MAKE it a priority.
Or, do the right thing and put everyone on waivers after the draft.

Well, what if you have something to do besides be in front of a TV or radio, but you CAN make a move? Hardly seems fair.

The same issue would pop up if you had the set time, which would have been within 10 minutes of that pitch.
Odds are if you are that tied up, and not just watching another channel, you aren't going to make that move that quickly anyway. Either way, the entire league had ample notice as to when transactions would be opened up, and if anyone didn't like it, all they had to do was say something. It could have easily been changed with no problem.
Everyone was in the exact same position at the exact same time. That's about as fair as can be.

Oh, so wait, you're saying that it's not that big of a deal because if you're able to make a move from a lab top on the train you don't deserve the same treatment as someone who's in front of a TV, even though they would be making an effort to make moves? If you pick a set time, someone who can't be in front of a TV or radio can attempt to make a move, and all blame would be off you.
I like the "odds are" reasoning. Hey, some one can cheat and say it's not a big deal because "odds are" they were going to win anyway.
BTW, you might as well not argue with me, since the rule has been changed to that next year.

How many people are on trains with laptops at 8:15pm on a Sunday? Let's get real here.
There was a set time--the second baseball season started. Everyone in the league had the exact same notice. Everyone in the league knew DAYS in advance. NO ONE objected. Had one person made an objection BEFORE, I would have had no issue making that set time. But no one did, so obviously, no one had a problem with until after the season opened.
The rule is a simple change. It's not a big deal. But even so, the same thing easily could have happened in a set time. First pitch was between 8 and 8:15. It was well publicized. The argument that you didn't know or couldn't be there doesn't hold water.

Oh, I don't disagree with you there, they should have said something. You know better though, and should have this to a science already.
I may write a letter of complaint.

Actually, I know enough to know that everyone would be in the same position, and that we had previously established that no roster changes could happen prior to the start of the season. What better way to open things up than to do it the very SECOND the season starts? And those that need a set time have one within a few minutes. The set time was around 8:10ish. Very easy to figure out. Justin's point about "you're a baseball fan and should be ready" is basically the idea behind it, but it WAS a set time. There was no fuck up here.
But like I keep saying, it's no big deal either way. 8pm is just as easy as first pitch.

Well, I had DL moves to make and players (plural) who I was very interested in, and got screwed because I could not get to a computer. I WAS in front of a TV, but I did not have my laptop.
Life sucks. It's not fair. Anyone who was able to make transactions on Sunday should quit their bitching.

See, now, if Larry had a set time, he would not have to sit there like a dummy hitting refresh. Wait until something REALLY goes wrong. Let's see if the "quit your bitching" line pops up then.
What a joke of a league.

Yeah, well I was at Dave's best friend's baby's 1st birthday party, and the host was monopolizing his computer to make moves in his own league.
The only thing worse than not being able to make your transactions is watching someone else make theirs!

FYI--for the first week of the season or so, we all have Stattracker, which can let you monitor your team live.

Uh, I was working at 8:15 p.m. on Sunday. NOT in front of the computer at the time. Something such as a women's national semifinal came up. However....who gives a shit. I couldn't make it, I knew it. It's not a big deal. That's life.
