Doesn't anyone go record....hell, even CD shopping anymore?
Doesn't anyone care about the sleeves, the artwork, the lyric sheets?
Doesn't anyone remember THE MUSIC...can you honestly tell me you forgot? Forgot the magnetism of Robin Zander, or the charisma of Rick Nielsen? Well what about the tunes? I want you to want me! The dream police! dadadadadadada! Your mama's all right! Your daddy's all right! They just seem a little bit wieeeerd.

I still prefer buying the CDs for a few bands, mostly because of the reasons you mentioned. I always liked good cover art.

Doesn't anyone care about the sleeves, the artwork, the lyric sheets? I do. I get a lot of grief for it too. But Ill admit I only purchase real faves this way. Other bands i also make the purchase, but save a few bucks by downloading online. I am also an avid used CD purchaser, especially for archives in my collection. I have been grabbing favorites from my arcane cassette collection used off of Amazon, usually paying anywhere from a dollar to four bucks for em. Yesterday, on an emergency basis, i downloaded Dropkick Murphys "Live on St Patricks Day" cause I realized i had forgotten to order it - used - as I had planned. Hey, who is giving away CDs? ? I am totally in the market. Hell, after I am done, I will even pass them along to the next person!

I buy all three formats. CD's Vinyl. I have a HUGE record collection in my front closet. MP3's I've never paid for though.
If it's a band that I really like, then I'll go out and buy the CD, out of loyalty. There's no point in buying vinyl now a days, it's not even recorded the same way, so it's not going to be the same gritty quality of old vinyl. I can't wait to get chips that I implant in my ear!

I got one of those snazzy thingamajigs that convert your vinyl tunes to MP3 format. So you get the pleasure of having those old album tracks on your computer / MP3 player, complete with pop and scratch, and low tunage unless you want to mad - scientist it in the editing process.

oink was great while it lasted, but it was IMPOSSIBLE to get a good share ratio because there was SO MUCH stuff on there. i would go thru my collection and look for old/obscure stuff and it would already be hosted on there. plus, they got shut down like a week after i joined.....
pirate bay is decent, but the other 2 sites are MUCH better

After OiNK got shut down, I moved over to Waffles.fm - not nearly as good, but it tried. The great thing about oink, for me, was the fact that people were so desperate to keep their ratio up, that if you requested some random obscure CD, it was usually filled within a few weeks. You would almost have to leave your shares up constantly to keep up with the ratio requirements. Waffles is just as bad, if you don't log on for something like 2 weeks, they purge your account.
I don't tend to like search sites, from my experience they're a pain in the ass.

I only buy CDs... have not downloaded anything for the iPod. I simply copy my CDs into iTunes. I have a list on Amazon that I will be ordering as soon as I have some extra cash... something like the new Pet Shop Boys, coming out this month, will be a new CD purchase... other stuff I pick up used.

I'm having a problem with my ipod.
When i choose a particular album to play, the songs within that album are being shuffled. It wont go to another record or artist, only playing those songs from that album out of order.
Did i fuck something up with the settings?

On my Creative Zen, I dont have an option to play an album in order. At least I have never found any reference to that option. I choose an option, it shuffles within that option.
When did your problem start? There are some IPOD Army members on here that should help you.

So many of you may have heard that I stepped up to a 120 GB, switching from a Creative Zen to a ZUNE. Tonight I finally got around to loading it up, after about a week. Well, I sorta flubbed, and as I type this, its 3:02 AM.
Around 1, after loading things (like, 1,100 things) into a ZUNE folder and even going so far as to make some playlists, I unplugged the thing, and read the magic words "NO TRACKS." Oh, and "NO ALBUMS." Not so much a big deal...everything was still loaded into the software and folder. But somewhere along the line I changed the automatic sync to a manual sync, and things were not loading them as I was dragging them in, as I thought.
No harm, no foul, although after two hours Im still at 80% done. While Im off tomorrow, Dana will be up by 7 and heading to work, and Emma up soon after. So Ill be a weary soul.
Liking this ZUNE, liking the features, Ill be playing with this over the next few days.

What are the differences between a Creative Zen and a Zune? Didn't you just GET a Zen? And why the Zune over the Ipod? One thing I like about my Zen, even if it is now ancient and needs to be replaced, is that I wasn't stuck with Itunes.

I actually had the Zen for at least 2 years, maybe even longer. I would have stuck with that brand, but they dont really make anything larger than the 60 GB, which I had filled up. This whole scenario is a win-win for Dana and I, as she is going to get that old player.
The ZUNE is another brand I considered at the time, and the 120GB works quite well now. A coworker has the exact same unit and tought me some in and outs on it. Dana's brother also has one, lots of folks do. High marks, high ratings. My main reason for switching over was SPACE. I filled it with pretty much the same 11,000 tunes I had in the Zen, and still have almost 70 GBS left.
I like the way you navigate through, the software and the playlists are a breeze. I recommend the brand highly, especially as Zen seems to be getting out of the game (my old model, which I got for $299.99 new, is now selling for $400, and nothing bigger is out there)

What model do you have, and why Zune over IPOD?

It's not that hard to figure out. Zune>IPOD mainly because it's a more solid product and easier to use/download new music. I've had a 80 GB Zune for over a year and had no major complaints.

I don't know anything about the Zune, but I will make this blanket statement.
Anything that plays mp3s straight up in their native format without having to convert to a proprietary format and with out requiring special software to load said device > iPod.
PERIOD!

That's actually a question--DOES the Zune play MP3s in their straight format? Would I be able to essentially use this thing as a hard drive that can freely go back to my computer as a backup?
Itunes is the biggest reason I never got an Ipod.
From a little research, some complaints about the Zune is the headphones have been downgraded from the last model, and the battery life on the IPod is better. However, the battery life can be improved with the Wifi off.

Zune works out of the straight MP3 format. I have had to change nothing, or refrag anything, and all my 11,000 tracks are now safely moved over. If you IPod it, as Cho addressed - you have to reformat.
Balls, if those are the big complaints, we're in good shape. i will invest in better headphones I choose anyway, and battery life is no big deal - if it lasts through the day, i simply charge overnight.

I am on my second Zune and I love it. The first one that I bought, I got from BigTimmay as mentioned on page one of this thread. It got crushed by my rental car in St. Louis late last year. I will probably get the HD version that is coming out later this year. I have 4 movies that I converted to mp4 and can entertain myself with if necessary (History of The World, This Is England, Apocalypse Now Redux, Once Upon A Time In The West) and the A/V plug that I have makes it easy to plug into the jacks on most TV's or DVD players, so I can watch any content on TV if I want. I download a lot of the video podcasts daily (MLB Vcast and such) to watch at the gym. I also watch some episodes of TV that way. I was watching that pilot episode of Warehouse 13 from Syfi a few days ago. The games that are part of the new firmware are ok, but I don't play them too often. I also like that it will play any audio format (mp3, wmf, etc...) so you don't have to convert if you don't wanna, and I like that I can use the software on any computer to D/L pod and Vcasts and or songs. The one thing that I really like is the search or ping capability. Sometimes when I am in an airport, I will turn on the wireless and ping for another Zune. I have found a handful and exchanged songs. That is how I got hip to TAD (I had heard of TAD, but never really listened to them). The minuses are that it's difficult to charge without hooking to the computer (I bought an aftermarket wall charger and car charger), and my new car (2010 Soul) has an IPOD USB hook up, and won't recognize my Zune, but I just use the AUX jack and it's all good. I am also frustrated with the software occasionally, but that's just me. Oh yea, who rates a music/video storage/playback system on their headphones? LOL!!

I also hear the battery is tough or near impossible to replace, so once it goes, so does the player. But that said, I've heard the IPod has the same issue.
Also--to be clear--I saw the Zune 120. Is that the only 120GB Zune? Is that the current version, or is their a later version?
Seems like a simple model number, but that may be really it.

Anything that plays mp3s straight up in their native format without having to convert to a proprietary format and with out requiring special software to load said device > iPod. PERIOD! You don't need to convert mp3s to another format to use an iPod. I have 10,000+ mp3s on mine. Maybe what ch0 is confusing is that if you download songs on iTunes, they need to be played on an iPod rather than another brand player. I've had my iPod 5G (80 gig) for nearly 3 years and have had no complaints other than the headphone jack breaking a couple of times; buying the Best Buy extended warranty was a great decision — each time it broke, I received a replacement (refurbished) iPod within a few days. And next time it breaks, I get a free, brand-new one. iPod can play songs encoded with these codecs: MP3 (from 32 Kbps to 320 Kbps) MP3 Variable Bit Rate (VBR) AIFF WAV (with no compression) M4A AAC M4P AAC (Protected) M4B AAC (iTunes Store Spoken Word files) Apple Lossless Encoder The iPod does not play WMA files; big deal. And anyone complaining about the factory headsets/earbuds really should invest in a decent pair anyway.
