Very sad indeed. This isn't an ordinary wrestling death. I read something that he missed the PPV because of a family emergency. His wife (aka Nancy Sullivan formerly Woman in the WCW) and son were coughing up blood.
Could be some sort of poison if it got all 3 of them. Maybe a gas leak, or even murder.

I just heard. I am stunned beyond belief. I went to WWE.com, they had the news up, so did Wrestling Observer and PWTorch.
Oh man, this is shaping up to be the darkest day in wrestling history.

Depending on how it happened, it's certainly the worst thing since Owen Hart.

Fucking tragic. Exactly why Vince should have never toyed with the death angle. More than a few of my favorite all time matches had Benoit in it. This is really fucking awful, really sad day in wrestling.

I'm another one who is absolutely floored. Balls filled me in, busted through the joy of a swim in the hotel pool following a jaunt to Gettysburg. Balls also broke the news to me regarding Eddie Guerrero. When it comes to wrestling, he is the bearer of bad tidings.
Benoit was one of my top-5 faves of all time, no doubt. A few years ago, he led the list. I always touted the Benoit DVD set as a must-buy. When I get home, it will be spinning.
Very sad. My first thought of an entire family found dead was murder-suicide, but now that zany blood coughing stuff is out there. Maybe poison is involved. This is so sad.

I didn't hear whats Balls said about the blood stuff, but if thats the case, I have a feeling something along the lines of Carbon-Monoxide may be the cause.
God, this blows. This is the last thing wrestling needs.

Balls, what does that say? I'm on an unsecure network, and dont totally trust 1wrestling.
Vince bit the bullet and threw kayfabe out the window, and pulled aside the curtain. Good for him.

Details remain very sketchy regarding the tragic news today that Chris Benoit and his family were found dead at their Atlanta area home.
Benoit had been scheduled to appear on a WWE house show on Saturday. Sources tell us Benoit called to first say he would be taking a later flight, and then to say he would not be attending the house show due to a family illness. According to one source, Benoit said both his wife and son were throwing up blood and he needed to stay to take care of them.
At last night's Vengeance pay-per-view, Benoit was replaced in his match by Johnny Nitro.
No other details are available at this time and police are on the scene at the Benoit residence investigating.
That's from Balls' link. So I guess RAW is just going to be a tribute show rather than a live tribute show.

I said the same thing about Vince. And an empty arena too which is also very different than the other shows.

Unreal. Just got the news around 8 from my wife while i was in class. I am shocked. It has to be a gas leak or carbon monoxide or something... why did they stay in the house... damnit this sucks...

Vince did the right thing. Maybe they decided what they did with Owen was a mistake, and that's why they stopped the show and sent everyone home.
I think Vince addressing the storyline was done well. But what will be interesting will be how they handle the storyline from here out.
I think the right thing would be to do what they did with Kerwin White, and just drop it.
Update from 1wrestling.com. The police found the bodies at about 4pm. The only thing ruled out as a cause of death was that no one was shot.
What is even more sad is that there are apparently 2 other children.

Yeah, they are apparently going to hit the "reset" button and move forward. Best for all concerned.
As to the carbon monoxide theory...that would not cause someone to cough up/spit up blood, if that part of the story is true. You just pass out and go.

I think it's safe to assume the angle is dead.

It should be. It's been nothing but a nightmare for Vince. I even heard there is a potential lawsuit because the death of McMahon could have affected the publicly traded stock. They could keep it alive by having the family being outraged by the fake death, but the best bet is to just drop it. But I wonder how they will handle McMahon on TV. By the way, if you have the desire, go to www.1wrestling.com. They seem to be updating the news as it comes in. According to them, CNN TV is saying the cops are treating this like a homicide.

Yeah, I read that too, although it was added that it was not "gun-related."
Freaky.

What if his wife and kid died and he offed himself? Either way this show is hard to watch, it always gets me when they talk about how hard he worked in the ring cause that's what I loved. Not too many people get me to ohh and ahh at a suplex.
Um didn't Steph give this same speech last week? Cunt.

It's not impossible, but I don't think it's likely for one reason. He had more than one child. Notice how there was more than one kid in the ring in the WM highlight with his family. And notice how they keep talking about his CHILDREN.
If you lost a wife and child, it would be devastating, but the first duty is to the children left. You wouldn't kill yourself.

Yeah, the one thing I would rule out is him offing himself. Some are speculating his wife, who was a loon, did all this. But again, no gunshot wounds found on anyone. Hey, maybe Kevin Sullivan did it...Benoit stole Woman from him, it was all very ugly at the time. Oh, and I dont think he did it, i figured i would just kick up some more theories.

Yeah true, my thinking was he couldn;t have been home in those same situations as the other two, he wasn't coughing up blood, he's been wrestling. But I think you're right, that was just my first thought.
I feel bad for guys like Chavo, and Melenko, losing both Eddie and now Benoit. It's rough for us fans, they gotta be numb. I liked CM Punks speech, teaching Benoits in ring work ethic to younger guys. Nobody should want to be a pro wrestler and not appreciate and respect Chris Benoit and the work he did in the ring.

The Altanta Journal-Constitution claims it is being investigated as a "Murder-Suicide."
From the Observer...
Lt. Tommy Pope told the Associated Press that it was being investigated as a homicide pending results of a preliminary autopsy report that will come out tomorrow. No gunshot or stab wounds were found, but they couldn't rule out poisoning, suffocation or strangulation. Pope said he was not confirming any of these potential causes, just not ruling them out.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported it is being investigated as a murder/suicide.

Came out and got right down to it...said that tonight was supposed to be a night with a "storyline" surrounding the demise of "his character Mr McMahon" but that Chris Benoit, his wife, and his child, were really dead. And that was that. It was very respectful, and the best thing that could have been done.
I have spent the last 20 minutes on a comment board for an Atlanta newspaper, and there is a lot of conjecture that Benoit murdered his wife and child, and then took his own life. For so many reasons, I hope not...and think of it on the WWE end....can you imagine a 3 hour memorial for what turns out to be a murderer?
And if thats the case, in all due respect I will need to switch my sig pic.

Oh, Lord.
Now even WWE.COM is reporting it has been ruled as a double murder-suicide. So it was either Benoit, or Woman.....you take your guess.
Fuck.

I had read they had a rough marriage which sometimes got hostile. I don't agree the tribute was in waste if he murdered them, what he does inside the ring is different then what he may or may not have done outside the ring, in his own home. I don't think murder and/or suicide takes away from what an actor, musician, wrestler etc does for their craft. If he killed his wife and kid it doesn't mean he still isn't one of the best wrestlers of all time.
But honestly, with all that was said about him and his family and how his kids behaved around other wrestlers backstage, you think he would have done that? I say some freak accidents.

Imagine being Chavo, or Dean, or Edge, or any of those other guys who just spent all this time eulogizing the guy as a family champ. About how he doted on family. About how family was his life.
This is just mind-numbing. WWE boxed themselves into a corner. They should have kept it low-key and not piled it on so thick (stuck to matches only, for example) until details hit.
