Am I wrong or was all that booze found around his body in the weight room? That probably means he didn't drink any of that until after he killed his wife and kid. Maybe not though.
James, nobody is saying his broken neck was an act. And nobody is saying that wrestling does not require a degree of strength and athleticism but you can't compare it to other sports. Winning a belt can't really be considered an accomplishment when it is scripted. And even if it is an accomplishment, a few intercontinental championships, however many tag team titles.... after something like this, those don't really matter. You want Chris Benoit's accomplishments, he killed a woman and a seven year old kid. Real tough. Then rather than own up to what he did, he hung himself. I don't care what he did before. I wouldn't care if he created a cure for cancer. After killing a seven year old child NOBODY deserves any sort of admiration or respect regardless of their prior "accomplishments."

The only thing that I know was found in the weightroom by fact is the wine bottle. There were 10 empty beer cans found around. Maybe there was more. 10 cans of beer is not going to drive anyone in the world who does not have it in them to murder anyone. But my guess is there was some mixing of alcohol and pills. Those 10 beers, or even half that, mixed with some pills, may have sparked this whole series of tragic events.
Whats oddball here is that I dont think this is going to prove anything one way or another, this toxicology report today.
As to Benoit and his "accomplishments" - yeah, its a worked sport, and he cant be held on high for wearing belts. For me, though, I wont forget the fact that he totally revolutionized a style of the sport for so many wrestlers, I literally have read dozens who said they emulated what he did as best they could before this happened. He was one of the best "wrestlers" out there. Its strange to recall just a few weeks ago Torch had an audio series on the best wrestlers of the last 30 years and they spent a Hell of a lot of time talking about Benoit. Then all Hell broke loose.

Did he really revolutionize anything? He said himself he just emulated the Dynamite Kid. Doesn't matter. He's a murderer.

I'm not saying he had no impact on the industry. All I am saying is that it doesn't matter if you are the greatest wrestler in the world, once you choke out your seven year old you lose that title. People can say they respect him as a wreslter but not as a person I guess, but it doesn't matter. Even if he is known as a great wrestler and as someone who revolutionized the industry, he is still always going to be "that guy that killed his kid." That's his legacy now.

Balls, dont play dumb. He certainly did. Dont be naive. He is without a doubt one of the top 3 or so technical wrestlers in decades. Yeah, Dynamite was his idol, and he emulated him, and modernized his move flow. One of the reasons Benoit was moved to ECW was so he could get good matches out of the crap floating in that pool. He was universally respected, there is not ONE person out there who would shortchange him in the ring....well, besides you.

Hey Dana, I agree with you, but even if it is scripted, to get the nod to wear the belt does mean something to anyone who wrestles. Cause then you're the nu,ber one guy in the company so on and so forth etc etc. It is a big responsibility to "win" the belt, a lot more goes into than just ok you go in there and pin him 1-2-3. But I agree, is it the same as the Super Bowl, winning an MVP, breaking a world record, of course not. But in that profession, having the belt means more than a scripted win.
Balls you're a douche.

You can acknowledge what he did in the ring, and him being one of the all time greats. Doing what he did doesn't take that away, but it does take away someone caring that he did what he did in the ring.

Yeah I agree, which is why I said, it's understandable to have that always come to mind, but Balls is going on that everything else is irrelevant, and to me it isn't irrelevant, it chapeans it, it weakens, and makes the carreer tainted(I said taint), not irrelevant. His wrestling carreer isn't gone cause of one night where he made some stupid horrible fucking PERSONAL decision. But personal is different than professional. Which is why I made the OJ reference. But I'm not like balls who will act like Benoit never wrestled a match in his life and did nothing in his life except kill himself and his family.

Well, yeah, it is irrelevant. I'm not going so far as to act like what he did in the ring was nothing special, but yeah, it doesn't matter anymore.

Yeam, same with me, I'm just not going to act like he was never a wrestler like Balls did. He forgets he wrestled excellently and he forgot OJ is one of the best running backs of all time. Not saying they shouldn't be remembered as like that, it's just shitty people will act like things they did never happened.

Same here, I havn't since the ill timed "tribute show". And when I do, I'll say in my head a few times, you fucking asshole. But then after I'll say fuck, that was a great match. Then curse him out some more, cause I'm a tough guy. My favorite match was when he lost to Angle at the Rumble and got the standing O, it sucks cause I doubt I'll watch that one ever again, but I'll try.

I already watched one of his matches. A week or so after the murder/suicide, while going through the January PPV I scarfed off of 24/7. I am not going to comment on it again, as I already did on here. I admit to an unsettled feeling. In time it will go away, the physical part of that, but I will never be at ease or peace with what he did. I am disgusted.
But, as I told Grover this weekend, I will watch his matches. In fact, a match I am going to seek out in my collection to watch again is a PPV no-holds-barred match he had with Raven in WCW. One of my favorite matches of all time.
Its hard for me. Benoit was possibly my favorite of all, and certainly in the top handful. I bet I have more of his matches on tape than anyone, mainly due to his longevity and being on TV mostly every week since the 90s for me. I taped just about every one of his matches, I think.

None of the levels here seem to be above "therapeutic" - or in laymans terms, normally prescribed levels. Roid-rage has been pretty much shot down. One thing coming out is Daniel Benoit was most likely sedated at the time of his death.
With the exception of testosterone steroids, there were NO OTHER levels showing in his body. Looks like the anti-steroid/drug camp took a MAJOR HIT here.
In fact, the doctor just said, with the kind of steroid and level Benoit was showing, its likely he may have been simply using prescribed levels to treat injury, a normal practice.
FROM A POST ON PWTORCH.COM
The results are in for the Benoit family toxicology reports. Kriss Sperry - Georgia Chief Medical Examiner gave the details - here they are:
Nancy Benoit had 3 different drugs in her system at the time of death. Hydrocodone (also known as Mortab, Morset) were found at 120 micrograms per liter. Hydromorphone, directly from the breakdown of the Hydrocodone, was also found. Finally, the anti-anxiety drug Xanex wss present at 23 micrograms per liter. All 3 drugs were found at the theraputic level - not toxic levels. Her blood alcohol level was 0.184.
Daniel Benoit's blood tested positive for Xanex at 100 micrograms per liter, which is an elevated. What is interesting about this fact is that the drug Xanex was not prescribed to Daniel and is typically not prescribed to children. Based upon this finding, it is their opinion that Daniel was sedated by Xanex at the time of his murder.
Chris Benoit tested positive for Xanex at 50 micrograms per liter. He also tested positive for Hydrocodone at 45 micrograms per liter. Both of these drugs were within the therapeutic range and not toxic.
As far as steroids ..... Chris Benoit's urine tested positive for the "steroid" testosterone at 207 micrograms per liter. The elevated level of testosterone his urine were the ONLY "steroids" present in Chris Benoit. No anabolic steroids were found.
Testosterone is found in everyone - in much higher levels in men than women. The medical examiner concluded that there is no way of telling whether Benoit's elevated testosterone was a result of recent steroid use. He called it a "mystery" - but said that Benoit may have been treated for a testosterone deficiency - a side effect of past steroid abuse.
The drug GHB was not found in any 3 of the individuals.
No way to tell whether the drugs in Benoit's system had any affect on his behavior that weekend. The drugs found in all 3 bodies were at therapeutic - NOT toxic levels. The medical examiner also said that the decomposition of the bodies may have affected the level of alcohol in Nancy's body.

I'm glad. I said when all this stuff about "roid rage" in the beginning that I hoped the toxicology reports came back negative. Now people can stop trying to place blame on the industry and on drugs and on everyone and everything other than Chris Benoit.

I really do not care if drugs played a role or not...the fuck was a murderer and why he did it we will never know.
What I do hope, and anyone who is a fan of the wrestlers should, is that this leads to pressure to rid the WWE of steroids.
If anyone noticed, one difference between this and some earlier WWE controversy/scandals is that board members are being pressured for comments. This is a public company, and that makes it a much different ballgame then the last time the mainstream media held Vince under a steroid microscope (during his trial)
It would be nice to go a year without a wrester dying in his prime.

What I do hope, and anyone who is a fan of the wrestlers should, is that this leads to pressure to rid the WWE of steroids.
Here's the problem....these results wont do that. All the pundits can keep citing "elevated testasterone levels" and all that, but they did NOT get what they were hoping for today. They wanted Benoits list of drugs to go on for 15 minutes during that press conference. It didnt....not even close. In fact, even the steroids may be explained away by LEGIT prescription...
WWE dodged a MAJOR bullet today. Rightly, or wrongly. And this story will start to dissapear now. Even the Michael Vick dog-fighting thing will steer at least the sports media that way. But the results were not a slam-dunk, and WWE has to be crying victory, at least when it comes to blame.
Looks to me that Benoit killed his family cause he was a dangerous scumbag, and people ignored it/did not realize it. "Roid Rage" was practically laughed off by the guy hosting the press conference, as much as the media kept trying to steer it that way.

I agree, I just HOPE, as I am sure you do, that this misguided pressure results in a closer look and pressures WWE into some kind of testing with teeth. I am sick of watching wrestlers drop dead. I almost feel like I enable whenever I buy a ticket

According to TMZ.com, on a Comedy Central taping last night (for a show airing in August), Jimmy Kimmel, when roasting Flavor Flav, making fun of the fact Flav has children with several different women, said, "Chris Benoit is a better father than you." The editors of the show immediately gave word that the Benoit joke was to be cut from the show.

Indy wrestler James Fawcett, who wrestled as Devil Bhudakha on the Pittsburgh indy scene, hanged himself a couple weeks after Chris Benoit did. The buzz in wrestling since news of his death circulated was it might be a copycat suicide since Fawcett idolized Benoit.

DYNAMITE KID - "I'M GLAD HE'S DEAD!"
The supermarket tabloid "Globe" has what they are calling a "world exclusive" interview with Tom "Dynamite Kid" Billington, a man Chris Benoit idolized and patterned his career after.
Billington claims to have warned Benoit about the dangers of steroids saying, "I warned Benoit to be careful - the wrong combination could send you over the edge. I'm convinced that's what happened here. He got it wrong, and his wife and son paid the price."
Billington says Benoit was "puny" when he first met him, "But, like me, he was a bit puny at first and had to put on the weight if he was to survive. Steroids were the only answer."
Billington lashed out at his former protege, "I feel no sympathy for him. We all knew the dangers. Benoit should have known his limits. We've all been through it, but we didn't take it out on our loved ones. His poor wife and child didn't deserve to die just because Beniot screwed his life up. I'm glad he's dead!"

Well, Chris' dad Michael is making the rounds today, kicking up some more theories and such. Look for him all over your evening news programs tonight, he is already well under way with his media tour touting this new "evidence." Apparently, Benoits brain was damaged to the point to where it resembled that of an Alzheimers patient.
from CNN.COM
NEW YORK -- A new study suggests that a series of concussions may have caused the rage that led wrestler Chris Benoit to murder his wife, his son and commit suicide.
Benoit's father, Michael Benoit, turned over part of the wrestler's brain to researchers at West Virginia University and the Sports Legacy Institute.
"I was grasping for anything. The world was very black. We didn't even know how to deal with this," said Michael Benoit.
Dr. Julian Bailes, head of neurosurgery at WVU, said the results of tests on Chris Benoit's brain were striking.
Showing a slide of Benoit's brain tissue Wednesday morning on ABC's Good Morning America Bailes pointed out what he called abnormalities.
"These are dead brain cells," said Bailes.
When asked how much of that he found Bailes replied, "It was extensive, throughout Chris's brain. It was striking and maybe shocking in the extent."
The researcher said Benoit's brain scan looked similar to those of Alzheimer's patients.
He described Benoit's brain as "very abnormal, something you should never see in a 40-year old."
Bailes has done similar research on the brains of former professional football players who committed suicide.
He said he found similar brain damage in their cases.
Bailes theroizes that repeated concussions can lead to dementia which can contribute to severe behaviorial problems.
In the case of the former NFL players he said he found a recurring "theme of failure in their personal lives and their business lives, depression and then ultimate suicide."
Benoit's father suggests that brain damage could have lead his son to murder his family.
"We have no understanding of how this could have happened. So it was important to us to investigate to see if something went terribly wrong," said Michael Benoit.
He said his son suffered dozens of concussions during his wrestling career.
Investigators have said that Benoit killed his wife, then his son and then himself in his Fayetteville, Ga. home the weekend of June 22.

An agreement has been reached between both the family of Michael Benoit, the father of Chris, and the Toffoloni family, the parents of wife Nancy Benoit, regarding Chris' estate they were battling over.
Benoit told the AP today an agreement has been reached and only needs to be signed whcih would split the estate down the middle between the two sides, ending any legal wranglings.
He said attorney fees would wind up being $500,000 to $600,000 of an estate that consists of two homes and multiple investments. Benoit said he was unhappy that both sides of the family ended up spending so much money to reach this decision. www.wrestlingobserver.com

Then perhaps they should have both decided to split it down the middle from the very beginning instead of being greedy and petty. Hello, your kids and grandkid are dead!
I can just imagine the arguements: Mr. Benoit: "Well, Chris was the one who made all of this money....."
Mr. Toffoloni: "Um,.... he killed my daughter....."
Either way it is money neither of them would have had (at least not yet) had Benoit not turned murderer.
I'm surprised that Nancy's parents can file some kind of civil "wrongful death" suit against the estate. Especially since had he just killed himself, she probably would have gotten everything. Also, he has a son and daughter from his first marriage. Where do they stand in this?

One thing I recently read is the WWE said absolutely not to the idea of a 2 million dollar cash settlement to the Benoits, which would have went entirely to his two children from that previous marriage. While to some that seems cold that they nixed it, it would set a bad precedent. WWE is standing firm in that they hold NO culpability as to what happened. So the Benoit family will be heading to court against the WWE machine. The wack thing about this court case between the Benoit camps was the way the money would be split in the eyes of the law. It all depended on order of death...since Nancy was killed before the son, the son would be bequethed the money, as if he was a "mourning child who lost his mother." That was why this stuff was mired in court battles, at one point the Nancy camp was suggesting the facts were wrong, and Nancy was killed AFTER Daniel.
Yeah, no doubt they should have simply got together and worked out this split settlement from the beginning.
