How about they can use n word but white people can't? Fuck court cases, how about in just everyday life? And by the way someones job and livelyhood is on the line and we're suppose to just get over the double standard? Fuck that shit.

No one in the media will have the balls to say this, so I will. Someone should ask the Rutgers president how these girls with an average 3.0 GPA at Rutgers can't put a coherent sentence together.

And honestly, was Imus far off on his description? Even the two white girls had nappy hair.

It's a shame that this has turned into a witch hunt. I'm not a fan of Imus, but it's just a shame people like Al Sharpton couldn't have been so outraged when OJ murdered his ex-wife or when Jesse Jackson referred to NYC as Hymie-town.
It still amazes me that Jesse Jackson has any credibility after that comment. But to have the balls to put up this kind of complaint would be like Jane Fonda getting mad at someone for being a traitor.
I don't care enough to get really passionate about this, but I just think it's a real shame.
But I don't think that the backlash would be any different if what Imus said was actually funnier.
I think Sharpton seized a moment to keep his name in the spotlight, and that's that.

I was a devout Imus listener growing up, as was my father before me. And yes, I have trailed off on listening to Imus, particularly because in the last 10-15 years he has gotten too politics-based for me. I'm more of a sports guy, in the morning and otherwise.
But all this talk of his irrelevancy is greatly exaggerated. His simulcast on MSNBC had finally just about equalled CNN's morning viewership, to the point where CNN had to change their morning anchors just last week. So while he's not nearly as relevant (or maybe interesting) as he used to be, he's certainly far from irrelevant. Don't mistake your distaste for his attempt at humor for irrelevancy.
I still think Imus' show is funny to a point, just not nearly as funny as other available programming.

All I've heard was that he called the girls on the Rutgers team "a nappy headed ho," and that was from Neil--in this thread.
Maybe you and Tone have de-sensitized everyone because it's just not that bad given the witch hunt that's going on to me.

great article www.kansascity.com/182/story/66339.htmlImus isn’t the real bad guy Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture. JASON WHITLOCK Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem. You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality. You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor. Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred. The bigots win again. While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos. I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas. It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent. Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves. It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud. I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack. But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$. I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had. Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage. But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction. In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive? I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re fools for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do? When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim. No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out.

Just my two cents, Now i can nto stand Don Imus ..I think he is a fake retard cowboy wannabe and love to see him humiliated.... but that being said ...if he gets fired for these sort of comments ....it will be disturbing. That in essence would mean that someone like Al Sharpton (now not alone) has the power to have someone like Imus fired .... even Rutgers isnt calling for this but guess what its happening ...now its funny to me that certain advertiser have pulled from the Imus show Like American Express and Sprint ..now these are 2 companies that do not have to worry about ppl boycotting there products... without getting into details ...Im mean seriously

So what you're essentially saying is that American Express and Sprint don't have to worry about the black vote, because the black people only use Discover and Cricket.
Well said, bi gal.

i didnt listen to the 1st hour of mike and the maddog but someone on yankees.com gave a quick recap
Francesa basically lambasted MSNBC for having no guts and for caving into the pressure to fire Imus. He also made the remark that Imus was the only one who got any kind of ratings for them anyway. He also spoke about how Imus helped put money into people's pockets (sponsors) but they were not loyal to him. Also, he spoke about people having agendas and that one lady who worked at WFAN told him that it reminded her of a "witch-hunt."
dog was going off on msnbc on how they pulled imus off the air when right now they are in the middle of a fundraiser for kids with cancer "cancer kids at studio now " & mike going off on how gutless and how people "big ads and higher ups" who were showing no loyalty and worried about the money...there was more but mike was speaking with some passion and sincerity and you could here the people in the backround cheering ...they also mentioned opie&anthony who brought up the msnbc issue and rudy G standing up for imus as well as others

Imus is not heading any where..... He will get fired by monday. XM & Sirius will NOT take him on board for at least 6-12 months from when this shit finally dies down..... They two companies are fighting the FCC and other parties involved inorder to complete the merger. They do not want to have Imus's name brought into this due to potential setbacks since all of Imus's sponsers have dropped him faster then a NY minute.
After the merger goes thru, Mel Karmazan will probably put him on the "combined" satellite radio on an un listend to channel and make him rebuild his rep.

Why are MMD and others shocked? Big business/advertisers/sponsers have always been loyal to the bottom line first and foremost. If someone is causing people to jump their ship the first thing they do is throw him or her overboard. That's the American way.

It's not that MMD are shocked. They are blood loyal to Imus. Imus was the one that pushed Francesa and Russo to the FAN bosses pretty much from the beginning. They are showing their fierce loyalty, which I kind of admire. Especially because they could stand to benefit greatly in a financial sense from Imus' departure.

Thats not whats I was saying but if the shoe fits ... JK But seriously, how many ppl would boycott these two companies Cancel your AMEX card ...Hmmm maybe 34 - 41 ppl at best ... and Sprint did you ever go into a Sprint store .... Nobody is boycotting that ...Maybe 16 ppl

I was wrong on this one...probably out of wishful thinking. Not because I cared whether or not Imus stays on the air, but because of the reasoning behind it. I suppose CBS had to keep in form with the trail they helped blaze post-Janet Jackson, but the circumstances just stink.
I also wanted to quickly address my reply to Jackass. I quoted his post about Imus being unfunny and answered his comment about Imus' irrelevance. I should have quoted the earlier post. But I still stand by the fact that Imus is still relevant.
What I don't like about Imus, and what I really think he wanted to hang on to (along with his ego) is his vacation ranch that doubles as a charity for the 10 weeks or whatever per year. Wonder where he'll get the money to keep that going.
I'm sure CBS will have to pay out his deal, which has 8 figures remaining. That would prevent him from going to satellite until the deal expires. Wonder if he'll still be alive by then.
Oh well...score another one for Sharpton and the rest of the civil-rights-for-profit movement. At least Sharpton got some good ratings out of it, particularly when he put the man he wanted off the air on Sharpton's own air.
