While this seems to be the talk of the town right now, Imus was on virtually every page of the Daily News this morning.
On top of all the printed media, he is also taking over the airwaves both on radio and tv.
What is everyones opinion of the fallout / punishment etc.
Personally without pulling out the "RACE" card, he quoted a movie from a Black man, Spike Lee.
Thoughts, comments, opinions are all welcome.

I have little interest in Imus. All I've heard is that he said some evil things, and Sharpton will be making some money off it while Imus apologizes. I don't know what he said or what the context was.

The sad thing is, it wasn't even funny. If you're going to get your ass raked over the coals for something you say on-air, at least let it be funny.

Those are my thoughts on it as well. Balls, he called the girls on the Rutgers team "a nappy headed ho"
i mean this guy is apologizing for something that is not illegal. He sounds like he is apologizing for committing murder in the first degree.
Fuck em.... Sharpton will blow this out of proportion AGAIN..... Like he did with the Fat Nick saga, make his money off this shit and ruin Imus's career.

what imus said was wrong and disgusting, but if chris rock or dave chappelle said the same remarks imus had said people would laugh and not say a peep.. it's the great black/white double-standard.. o well i guess that's the way it's gonna be right ?

Definitely an interesting point. The double standard is absolutely there. I guess it comes down to the right to make fun of yourself. It's kind of like how you can say anything you want about your family, but the second someone else says something, you get mad.

And not for nothing but Al Sharpton wasn't the first one to call Imus out on this. The Daily News columnists started writing about this on Thursday and through the weekend.
In the end, Imus has no one to blame but himself for his career most likely ending on this note. He's gotten away with far worse over the years, this time he got caught, that's all. Jw

What did he say that was racist? I've been watching coverage on this for a couple of days now, and i don't see the racism. They have nappy hair. The ho remark was degrading to women, but so what? Is that a reason to get fired?
I get a huge kick out of the lady from the National Association of Black Journalists who basically said that he has been degrading to women for years and he should finally be punished for it. Are you kidding? Do any of these people rip the black rap artists for saying far worse in their songs?
No, because it's a double standard. He's degrading to a lot of people. If you don't like it, don't listen.
And if his career was ending over this, they wouldn't wait until Monday to start the suspension.

What was funny was when his sidekick compared the girls to the Toronto Raptors....otherwise this should be a non-starter. It's just the Daily News trying to sell papers.
BTW: How did that Ad get in there after the first post?

Isn't being degrading to women a requirement for being on the radio? Stern has been doing it for years, and that's Opie and Anthony's trademark... those two pigs objectified and degraded women to the extent that I actually had a visceral reaction to it, but they didn't take a hit to their career until they went into the house of Manhattan's biggest landowner.
Newsflash: Imus said something dumb that isn't funny! If he was funny, people might have been paying attention to him, and complaining about his racism/sexism for years...

I thought Manhattan's largest land owner is the Federal Government, with the Catholic Church running a close second. I may be wrong.
In any event, it's ridiculous how he keeps apologizing. I mean, enough already. Pretty soon he's going to come across like a panty-waist. Punishment has been handed down already. They have already decided on two weeks. This won't end his career. If he does it again, then maybe, yeah.
I think he's sweating losing the fundraising outlet for the Imus Ranch, personally.

And not for nothing but Al Sharpton wasn't the first one to call Imus out on this. He will never turn down pulling the race card or making money by opening his fat fucking mouth on someone elses fuck ups. Nuff said... I hate that mother fucker. Everyone makes mistakes, noone is perfect but what this bastard does is uncalled for.

Fuck the team and fuck the people in this country for being so fucking sensitive. If a white guy decided to take offense to some skits Chris Rock or Dave Chapelle did, no one would fucking care. But because it's a minority(btw, how is it a minority when there is more of one race?), it's a big fucking stink. A) I can think of 73834679027466066186 things worse to say than nappy haired hoes. B) The black community cannot handle looking in a fucking mirror and admitting that they, as a people, aren't as superb as they think they are. They can have the n word banned, like on this site pansies, but they still have the right to bash white people. And wake the fuck up, you have rap artist and directors, who are black putting out worse sterotypes than Imus but just like Spike Lee, only black people can talk bad about black people and get away with it C) Al Sharpton is a cunt and I hope the KKK hangs him. C) This county has turned into the land of the puss. D) Sharpton is a cunt. This shit makes me sick.
And I agree with you justin he needs to stop apologizing, but anyone who's followed radio in th last few years should know when a suspension is handed out, the firing comes next. I.e. OnA, Star and Buc Wild, and the dummies from San diego.

I don't think so, I might be wrong, but I think he's off air two weeks.
It is John. as soon as whitey puts down a brother it's a race thing. But it's fine for a black guy to jump and rob some white guy calling him honkey and shit, that's noit a hate crime though? It's also white guilt in this country that makes me sick.

I think part of the reason he is still on the air because this the week where WFAN has their telethon, but I could be wrong.

Another thing that cracks me up.... What about the OTHER BLACK comedians that take pot shots at the white man? Martin Lawrence, Richard Prior etc.... Never once did you see anyone wake up and start a million man march, etc.
Cactus your dead on balls correct... we have turned into a bunch of apologetic pussies. Sad, to think that we have to bring kids into this world to deal with this type of shit.

I was pretty sure the largest landowner in Manhattan is the Catholic Church, with NYU running a close second...
As for the racism crap, I honestly could care less. The day someone who is not a neo-nazi feminist actually gets upset about comments and actions that are degrading to women is the day that I, as a white person, get upset when some ignorant loudmouth makes a dumb comment about a race I am not part of... Seriously, when people of the pre-politically correct generation say something inappropriate, they are old and out of touch, not racist. Get over it.

Imus reminds me of Vince McMahon (sp?). Every now and then Vince will jump out of his Brooks Bros suit and get in the ring, just to feed his ego and get even more face time. Same thing with Imus - amongst all of today's "shock" radio leaving him on the sidelines, this guy will purposely come out with some shocking statement every now and then just so he can feel relevant again - anything Imus says is superficial in that it's merely for aesthetic reasons. The guys is of no interest to anyone anymore and as he gets closer to falling off the map altogether you can expect more gimmicks like this.

What the hell is the Imus Ranch, anyway? Is it like the Neverland Ranch? Didn't Imus have some sort of suspected kid-touching incident or some kind of sex scandle at the Imus Ranch a few years ago?

The Imus Ranch is an authentic, working cattle ranch nestled beneath a majestic mesa in the rolling hills near Ribera, New Mexico, 50 miles northeast of Santa Fe. Its sole purpose is to provide the experience of the great American cowboy to children suffering from cancer or serious blood disorders, and children who've lost brothers and sisters to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
It is extremely important that all parents and children understand the fundamental philosophy of the ranch: it is not a camp! It is a working cattle ranch. Our objectives for the kids are to encourage in them a sense of achievement, responsibility and self-esteem through hard work and fun, while restoring their pride and dignity. Many have become convinced that because they are sick they are not normal. At The Imus Ranch they quickly discover they can do anything any other kid can do. Each child who visits the ranch is treated as a typical kid. Our policy forbids any mention of illness by ranch employees. The child life specialists, the doctors and nurses are responsible for addressing such issues when and if they come up.

They could tell him to skip the telethon and give him the boot afterwards. With all the press, wheather they let him go or not, do they relly want that heat at a telethon?
Did anyone see the press conferecne with the rutgers team? I really wanted to beat the crap out of those chicks and their coach, first off it sounded like they didn't even write the speech they read, and secondly, they came off as pompous dykes. Imus ruined their celebration? They loss! On their first day off, easter, they were supposed to celebrate but Imus took their moment away? For fucks sake, get the fuck off your pedestal. I'm not racist, but it was 50 years ago, they were fighting for equal rights, now they want to take away some of the white peoples rights. Fuck the white guilt shit, I' m 100% mutt, my ancestors came over from Ireland and Itlay, I don't feel bad about slavery. It's awful but I don't owe a mother fucking thing the black communkity. If the whole image is badass gangsta, which by the way Itlaians were and are the last ganstas, why the fuck do you cry about every single dumbass like Imus or Michael Richards? If I may pass on some advice I learned in Brentwood High School, man the fuck up.He's an old man that used words than not even black people use anymore. Sure it was stupid, but it's gotta be all this cause you were all so wronged in the past. Pussies, white black, green or yellow, we're all pink inside like a pussy.

This is interesting because it is making Imus relevant again (if he ever was).
I had a conversation with Otto Peterson (Otto & George) a few months back and we discussed the Michael Richards "controversy". I commented that I had seen Sam Kinison at clubs in Hollywood say shit five thousand times worse than what Richards said, but the difference was that what Kinison said was funny. Otto agreed and said it also had to do with commanding the room and owning the audience.
What Imus said was not funny. Period. His show is not funny. Bernie and Chuck and the rest of the crew are not as talented as they like to think they are. Putting a Fed-Ex envelope on your head and doing an Irish accent is funny - ONCE. Turning it into a career is lame. Doing an imitation of Mayor Nagin is funny - ONCE.
If they had any real balls at all, Berniie would be doing Mayor Nagin imitations TODAY. But they are pussies and they are not funny.
The difference between the shit that the black comedians say (Chappelle, Prior, Rock, etcc...) and what Iums or Richards say is THEY ARE FUNNY and Imus and Richards are not.
Another thing is that if no one gave a shit, people like Sharpton and Jackson would lose their "power". But because people allow themselves to care, it give these guys a platform to peddle their viewpoint.
People (especially white people) give Sharpton and Jackson a little too much credit. Ask any African-American (or a negro if you know any) if Sharpton or Jackson represent their viewpoints. The answer will probably shock you. These guys are of marginal influence until everyone lets them have more.
So, in the end, stop being so outraged at a perceived "double standard" and quit feeding the monster. It's not a double standard when one side is funny and the other side isn't.
Wake up white people!

I agree that Sharpton and Jesse Jackson aren't major black leaders, but they are some of the black leaders. That said, I blame society more than I do a public figrue. I'ts not like when Ali was doing speeches, and Malcom X etc. Lot's of black people think they;re idots but a lot of them buy into that shit too. Black people, at least in my area, think they still don't have rights, and are still being held down. It's not just what stupid Sharpton says, some black people only think white people are racist and can commit hate crimes.
Other side of the coin says whitey is just as stupid and ignroant. They feel like they have to give in and still owe something, and are guilty for shit almost 400 years ago. People all need to chill the fuck out, let shit bounce off them and not get so woked up over that. Fuck, if I learned that from sitting in 39 it can't be hard for other people to grasp. It's fucking stupid on all sides.

I agree that one key problem with Richards is that it wasn't funny. Compare that to the brilliant South Park episode covering the exact same subject.
But I still believe the double standard exists. I just wish I could think of an example of a white person being funny and getting killed by the Sharptons of the world.
