Ah, just a few hours to go. Got the proverbial week off up ahead. Sadly, Dana is stuck working all but one of the days, and Emma is still in school. But we do have a nice 2-weeks off we will share come July. But for this one I will have some down-time, which meant it was urgent to get my Sancho Panza cigars in beforehand.
I'll be spending less time on the board next week, so I trust you folks to keep things moving along so those around are not bored to death. I am not around for your amusement on any real levels. In fact, I am considering taking a complete break, and trying to see what leaving all normal regiments of life aside while recharging. We'll see.
Emma starts school round noon, which means breakfasts with Dad. We'll hit up the diner one day, she is a big Belgian Waffle gobbler. On her Friday off we will certainly march to "Frucky Fried Chicken" to get some "around the bones"
I will watch some DVDs, smoke some cigars, have a couple of beers. Ya'll behave yourselves.

How much vacation time do you get?
You seem to be getting weeks off all the time.

I'm up to taking FIVE WEEKS per year. I accrue that much time over the year, but we cap out. If I dont keep taking the time, I am just penalizing myself. Besides, after 8 years I deserve the respite.
Dana gets 2 weeks, I am matching them this time around. I am taking a week in June, 2 in July, and the first week in September. Took one in Feburary as well.
I'm the man!

FIVE WEEKS? Holy crap. So I guess it's use it or lose it at your place. I would guess that does NOT include sick days either.

Nope, I still get a handful of sick days, and even 2 personal days on top of all this.
At the end of the year, I will be enjoying paid time off for 6 weeks of the year. Yay!
Its sorta use it or lose, in that once you cap up 5 weeks unused time, it carries over but you dont accrue anymore. So yeah, you best take vacation and open up some time to get more.

We're hardasses on vacation time. You have to be there 10 years to get 3 weeks.

Fuck that. I dock them for being 1 minute late. Our leniency comes in job security. It takes a lot to get canned.

Technically I get a little more than three weeks if you include personal time. They also don't like to pay us overtime so rather than do that if I work extra hours I will get paid in "time off" so I rack up extra time that way. I've also volunteered to go in on a couple of Sundays to go through old paperwork and see what we can ship out to our record retention facility rather than cluttering our attic. Attic clean up on a Sunday gets me double time off for the amount of time I go in. I also get time off if I do the blood drive and stuff like that. Our holiday time is also included in our hours off so if we get paid for an eight hour holiday but I work extra hours another day rather than paying overtime they will use less of your holiday time and you can take that in time off. I gain a day or two that way as well. Sick time does not have an allotted number it is up to management's discretion. Since I am part of management and don't call in often I will pretty much get paid for whatever sick time I do use. Next year I'll be five years and will get another week. What sucks about my two weeks is that I have to take them together.

Years ago, we forced employees to take a vacation day on the Friday after Thanksgiving, so technically, they only had 9 vacation days. That changed years ago.

Ah, draft day!
I just got up, I am friggin' exhausted. I have been staying up till 2 watching stupid stuff on TV. Then reading a bit. I am going to make my World Famous Scrambled Eggs for Marg and I now.
Emma is off to school at noon, and I begin my predraft party on the back deck with a Sancho Panza and some beers. I will probably miss the kickoff of the draft at 2, as I figure I will be out there till at least half past the hour. So do not rely on me for "play by play" on the draft picks. Actually, that may not be happening at all today, as I plan on watching this from the couch once I am back inside, as I dont need to track it online anymore. Yay ESPN2.
I am, however, chagrined that my vacation is creeping to an end. But I guess I am happy I have two weeks off in July.

"I am going to make my World Famous Scrambled Eggs for Marg and I now."
Does your eggs really need to be capitalized?
And since when does school start at 12 noon?

Pre-school, my young friend. Pre-school. 12:30 - 3, which gives me just enough time to enjoy a leisurely smoke.
My eggs do indeed need to be capped. I have now cooked them four times in my life, and mastered the technique. My daughter can be a harsh critic.

"World Famous Scrambled Eggs." It's an official title. Thus the capitalization.

So I am sorta glum that inherently my vacation is over. Yeah, I dont go back to work for a couple of days, we have entered the "weekend" - but my free time while work was going on is over. Sucks.
Dana did not have to go into work till this afternoon, so we decided to hit IHOP. But the friggin' place was crammed at 11AM on a Friday, cars piling out of the parking lot. We had to settle for a greasy and bland breakfast at the local FRIENDLYS instead. This place can not do breakfast. Shoulda stayed home for some of my World Famous Scrambled Eggs.

I know you guys love this time of year. Yes, I am heading off on vacation again, kicking off at closing time today. This time for a whopping TWO WEEKS. Yay me.
This is my own first two week vaction in at least a decade or more, and I am not even sure I have ever had one. And the best part is that Dana is sharing the two weeks, and with Emma obviously out of school for the summer, we will be able to share the two weeks together.
So you know what that means. Keep things moving in my absence. I wont be here blathering away, keeping threads on point. Its your time to shine! Someone take control over here.
I will be around here and there - we are not "going away" per say, on this vacation. We are doing a lot of local attractions, from a trip into the city, to a jaunt out to Riverhead and the acquarium there. We will be logging beach and pool time. Other local stops will be in the sights.
I will probably be logging in daily, and posting, most likely at night. But the all-day yapfests from my desk at work will be on hold till near the end of the month.
So I am putting it out there - please dont let this place die while I am not posting 50 times a day.

Well, not yet....but I want to prep you guys for yet another week off by me, next week. To practice for this, I took today off. Just took Emma to the diner on a Daddy-date, where I enjoyed a Farmers Omelette and she wolfed down two eggs and two slabs of sausage.
