Took a little mini vacation to Phoenix this past weekend with my wife, my kids, and father in law, for the purposes of visiting a friend and catching the Los DBacks (Hispanic Heritage Day at Chase Field) vs Dodgers. Manny went ape shit the game I was there - 3 for 4, 2 HRs, a triple short of the cycle. Big ass chili dog at the TGIF overlooking the stadium: It was Eric Byrnes' HAIR HAT Day: "BEAT L.A." was the catch phrase of the day: Skanky chick jumped on the field and security laid her out Lawrence Taylor style: This is a SUPER NICE Baseball Stadium. If you don't have history behind your ballpark, this is model that other stadiums should follow. I suspect that the new Yankee Stadium will be like Chase Field on steroids.

I absolutely fucking hate the existence of the pool. Otherwise, it looks like a truly great ballpark.

Yeah, I hear ya Nettles, BUT...that pool is a very "Arizona" thing, ya know.
It's hot as fuck out there, and that pool generates a tremendous amount of revenue from corporate $$$$ who rent that thing out for functions. I have no issue with that pool, in Arizona.
If Wrigley field put a pool in the outfield, then yeah, ok, I'd cry sacrilege.

I dont have a problem with the pool either. I dont even have problems with merry-go-rounds in other ballparks. San Diego has a friggin "beach."
Hey, at the end of the day, baseball has to be marketed as more than a game to keep the family element and the sponsors happy. Anything that gets asses into the ballpark is a good thing.

It's a valid point Tom!
You know, not EVERYONE is a Yankee fan. Not EVERY baseball fan has this pristine, fundamental worship of the grand old game in it's pure state. Not every fan can boast Babe Ruth and Joe D. and a litany of World Series' successes and an 80-something year old stadium in their history.
Hell, even a team like the Cubs doesn't have near the historical attributes to boast, that the Yankees do.
So if someone is D-Back's fan, let them be proud of their state of the art stadium with their swimming pools. Hell, at least they're coming out to the ballpark. Those dicks in Florida only show up to the tune of 13,000 asses in the seats for a legitimate first place ball club.

BTW - the big screen in Arizona is high-def and is absolutely breath-taking! It looks pretty good in this picture, and this picture doesn't even come close to doing it justice.

Note the 4 for 4 stat from the previous night...that considering the 4 for 5 that day with 2HRs, and the 0-1 the next day with 3 walks.

Just got in from smoking my 3rd cigar in 3 days.
Emma set up, and ran through, an obstacle course using old bikes / scooters and a milk crate.
I imbibed with 2 Guinness pints someone from my job got me from one sort of accolade or another, and a frosted glass that did not stay frosted long due to the prickly heat out here this week.

Sigh. Just one more day, today, Monday. I go back to work tomorrow. My vacations for 2008 come to a close. Of course I took off the Monday after the Yankee finale, Halloween for once, and the day after election day so I can celebrate the McCain / Palin victory all through the night and into the next morning. And I wont be a gracious winner, either.
Im a little glum all this time off is in the rear-view.

Heading back to Turks and Caicos on January 17-24. Tom will have to properly celebrate Hulkamania Day, and mourn Obama's inaugaration.

Did some google image searches...MAN, that looks nice. I'll bet that's gonna be a lot nicer than my Catalina spear fishing trip in the bitter cold October Pacific Ocean water.

Considering the source, it really means nothing. You and Tom can come if someone can take care of Emma.

Balls, if you don't mind my asking...what does a trip like that run you as far as airfare and lodging are concerned? Ballpark is fine...we're not presidential candidates, I'm not asking you to disclose your finances.

The trip price isn't hard to figure out. The flight from NY (direct), is varying from $612-$755 depending on what American Airlines wants to charge on the day you book. I got it a little cheaper than that, but not much, and the price hasn't gone as low as I had it, since.
As for the trip itself, it depends on whether you want a single or a roommate. I took advantage of an $888 special, which was a price for a roommate. They added a single supplement of about 40%. I always go for the single, because the extra few hundred bucks is worth not having to deal with someone else in the room.
Even better, I was able to save more money by booking through a Canadian travel agent, who charged the same money as in the US--except in Canadian dollars. So I picked up about another $100 on the exchange rate. I think when the dust settles, the trip will be under $1800 this go around. Keep in mind this is all inclusive, so food is covered as well, and it would be a bigger bargain if I were a drinker, since alcohol is part of the package.

I usually try to make up for it a bit by getting free booze for staff. I would get booze and pour it out, but that would be alcohol abuse.

$1800.00 is not bad at all....I would probably tack on a few hundred since I'd be coming from California....but still not bad.
Looks nice!
