Booked a December mini vacation to Vegas on the 18th-22nd. For the first time ever, I'm flying first class. Delta Skymiles got me the ticket round trip for just $62.
Wooohoooo!

Because apple juice is free in coach as well.

Is that the only reason? The seats are supposed to be roomier, more comfortable, and I get on and off the plane first.

I'll make use of the space. Of course, there's always that fantasy of being sat next to some celebrity or supermodel on the plane. It never happens though. The best was sitting next to the smelly guy with the turban. Or the lady that was like Momma from Throw Momma From the Train, who had flies buzzing around her before the flight.

You should do the right thing and offer up your seat to a fat drunk.

Fuck that. The fat drunk should sit next to the crying baby. I moved one of my seats to row 1.

I swear, I honestly dont remember who it was - but there was one guy who would show up at the park for the pre-game drinkfests, and as he would stand around out there gnats would be circling his head. Like a cloud. He would move, and they would follow him.
I dont know if it was something in his hair, or what. But he would be standing there with gnats hovering over his head. I didnt like it.

That's not too shocking. Those gnats go to the highest point, and if the guy was sweating a bit, it would happen.
You were probably sitting in your spot and he was standing.

I gotta agree with Balls on this one. The better perks of first class are definitely boarding/ exiting first and roomier seats. F the free booze. .

Tom, you will like this. This past Saturday we went camping with some friends in Calico, CA - specifically at the Bismarck Mines site. The cool thing about this is that this is real camping. This isn't calling up the National Park and reserving a camp site with a picnic table and running water - this is miles out in the middle of the Mohave Desert, only accessible via off-road vehicles and set up camp where you may. Calico was a big silver mining community in the old west days - 1800s...and the Bismarck Mine Site was one of it's most prolific producers. We went mine exploring which entailed some pretty hearty rock climbing and long periods of time (2 hours) hundreds of feet under ground traversing the ant-farm like maze of mine tunnels. Luckily we've got a pretty powerful flash so some of these underground pics came out pretty good: (these were underground, in complete darkness)

I do like that. I would like to do that sort of camping, but i cant even coax Dana to do some tent camping at a public campground.
Great shots, thanks for sharing. Mines and ghost towny things rule!

done how? playing? yeah.
I don't think anything can come of this - McNamara still has yet to provide and real solid proof linking Clemens to roids. There isn't the smoking gun that is evident with so many other players - receipts, delivery slips, etc. What...Roger is so great that these labs gave it to him for free?

You know, before I got fat, I had no incentive to pay extra for a first class seat, at least not for a flight under 6 hours... I still cannot see paying double, but without losing another 30 lbs, I could not handle a long flight in coach.

When it's free, there's no incentive NOT to go first class. I rarely fly, and when I do, it's usually to Turks, and there is no direct flight there from Delta. So different destination, different situation, and we had enough miles. Skymiles for one airline is pretty useless, but the business was doing that for years until I switched it to cash. Now we had all these unused miles that expire at the end of 2009.
No reason to save them. There's still enough to get our general manager 2 tickets to Vegas himself.

I get very claustrophobic on planes (and other crowded and/or small places). I've even been known to suffer from anxiety if I am sitting in traffic for too long.
I would definitely prefer to fly first class.
Especially if you have to sit next to a stranger. I would rather sit next to a first class stranger in a seat that provides more a buffer zone than sit close to a coach stranger.

So leaving for Vegas on Thursday. One item on the agenda will be to stop by the hotel where OJ got arrested and take a picture doing the Heisman pose.
We may also try to find the prison where he currently is and do the same thing. I wish I had the balls to try to visit him.

Balls is SO screwed. Who would have seen this coming? Snow in Vegas, flights grounded, all kinds of mayhem over there. 3 inches now, which is like 3 feet here. They probably only have a couple of plows in town. Las Vegas Hit by Rare Snowstorm, Grounding FlightsLAS VEGAS — A rare snowfall blanketed Las Vegas on Wednesday, canceling flights, snarling traffic and dusting palm trees and marquees along the Las Vegas Strip with accumulations that were expected to reach 3 inches overnight.
Other locations were forecast to receive as much as 8 inches of snow in the second winter storm this week to drop snow on the desert city.
Snow piled up around the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign on the south end of the Strip, as visitors parked and posed for pictures wearing hooded jackets. In other parts of the Las Vegas valley, snowfall toppled trees, blanketed rooftops and delighted residents who rarely get to see winter weather.
"Sometimes you have to travel to the mountains to see the snow, and now you don't have to," said Jose Villeda, 38, as he stuck his tongue out to catch snowflakes outside of Lavo, a restaurant and nightclub at the Palazzo hotel-casino.
Snowfall is common in nearby mountains hills, but not on the Strip or surrounding neighborhoods.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew Gorelow said 3 inches of accumulation on the Strip would break the December record of two inches set in 1967, but wouldn't match the Las Vegas winter record of nine inches set in 1974.
Gorelow said up to 10 inches could fall in the suburbs in the western foothills of the Spring Mountains. A powerful wet Pacific storm with an Arctic chill was to blame for the conditions that left parts of Las Vegas looking more like Wisconsin than a desert vacation destination.
The Federal Aviation Administration barred flights bound for Las Vegas from departing from airports nationwide. McCarran International Airport did not immediately close, although many flights had been diverted and delayed.
KLAS-TV reported Southwest Airlines had canceled all flights.
"The issue is visibility," Airport spokeswoman Elaine Sanchez said. The airport has no deicing equipment.
The Nevada Highway Patrol and Las Vegas police reported fender-benders as drivers unaccustomed to snow found themselves spinning crazily out of control. No serious injuries were immediately reported.
U.S. 95 between Las Vegas and Hoover Dam was closed at Railroad Pass, as well as the Interstate 15 between Primm and Baker, Calif., closing the road connecting Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Route 160, the road to Pahrump, also was closed.
The near whiteout conditions had school officials considering a snow day for Las Vegas students.
Clark County School District spokesman Craig Kadlub said the district was watching the developments closely would announce any cancellations early Thursday morning.
