BTW, I never bitched when Urbina did it because he was routinely the Yankees bitch! ;D ;D ;D
Edit: and now he's probably, quite literally, someone's BITCH!

Cho, there are people on this board that put a capital H in Hypocrisy. Metssuckballs is Exhibit A.
A, as in "A-hole."
Who cares what Beckett thinks?
Lots of people. When the deserving AL Cy Young speaks, people tend to listen.

Tom, just out of curiosity, is this rumor the product of a rotisserie league forum?

I have a feeling someone in the Yankee clubhouse will call Joba aside and tell him to leave the little dances of joy in the shower or something. Either that or it will take a batter charging the mound and beating the piss out of him to stop it. I read somewhere that Joba has not had a fight in his life, so I would not count his size for anything.

Eh, this rumor is out there enough that the Yankee announcers spent 5 minutes talking about it 2 nights ago on the air.

Joba is an American Indian. He can take care of himself and HOW.

"He's been pretty "demonstrative" in just about all of his appearances this season... " Not the case....this is a recent thing (although I've seen pictures of him in his Huskers uniform acting that way). At first we'd become accustom to seeing Joba throw a pitch and, from the momentum of his delivery, nonchalantly walk off, head down, to the left side of the mound. I always thought that was kinda cool...kinda like the way Larry Bird would let a three-point shot fly, turn his back and walk away before the ball actually drained the net. We must have been watching a different pitcher these past two months, then... Not that I mind his antics. I like a bit of colour.

Did someone say something?
Joba's ERA+, btw, is an insane 1141.

I didn't read this whole post, but I'll say this: I've been watching Joba Chamberlain since his Nebraska days. He has ALWAYS been demonstrative. His fist pump has been a signature of his since before he helped lead the Huskers to the College World Series. Any time he didn't do it this season (maybe once or twice) is the anomaly. He is who he is.

There are only 2 pitchers out there that I will trust to start a game 7 for the yankees .....#1 is of course Santana and #2 is Halladay..... everyone else who knows what they will do and half of those guys are in the NL and we all know what happens when you bring NL pitchers to the Yanks..... IF THE BEST PITCHER IN THE GAME is being offered in exchange for a rookie (no matter how good he may be) YOU HAVE TO MAKE THAT DEAL

In light of what happened and how the meltdown occured, I ask this:
If your Omar Minaya and they ask for reyes for Santana, do you make the trade (assuming you get a window to sign Johan)
In April, I would say no way but now...I think Omar has to at least think about it

Eh, I would not do that. The Mets add a stud on the mound, but lose the guy who may end up the best overall SS in the game. Go back to the Yankees scenario - you trade Joba for Santana, a starting pitcher for a starting pitcher. You replace a POSSIBLE hole in the rotation by losing a guy, with someone who is probably better AT THE SAME POSITION.
But for the Mets, that would be creating a huge hole and losing a superstar at that hole go get a star in a totally different spot on the field. Yeah, you get this great pitcher, but who plays short??? Who replaces what Reyes does EVERY DAY?
I would personally say no to Reyes for Santana, but consider Joba for Santana.

Joba for Sanatana I would do...if I get to sign Santana. I love Joba, hes got great potential but he could meet that potential and still not put up Santana's numbers

Reyes for Santana? For the same reasons I didn't want to do Joba, I would say no there too. Sub Reyes for a young Jeter and it may become more clear.

Ugh, anyone see the "poster" centerfold in todays DAILY SNOOZE? Its a cartoon Joba PLAYING AN ELECTRIC GUITAR with a howlling face, and the tag, "Ready to ROCK AND ROLL"
This is like one of those cartoons kids go to the fair and have made, where the "artist" will have them as ballerinas balancing on a ball, or a boy on a rocketship.
I just hung it up in my cubicle here in my secondary office in Farmingdale, though.

OK, its known the Yankees are holding firm in not sending any of the triumverate of young guns to Minny for Santana. That said, the Yankees are still clamoring for Johan, and now the name on the docket as the pinstriped centerpeice is.....CANO.
So, my question is this, to all you people holding firm on no arms for Johan - would you prefer this??? I sure wouldnt. For all the crap you think I give Cano, I would swap Hughes over to the Twins before I would part with the consistency and promise Cano is bringing along.

Tom I agree I would give up Hughes/Kennedy before Cano....Be honest I would forget Santana and take my chances that he ends up going free agent (even if the Twins deal him in July).

He will NOT go free agent. Whoever ends up dealing with him will do so contingent on having a chance to work out an extension.

Then let him go.....I would roll the dice.......What if the Twins are in it and decide to hold him ala the A's and Billy Beane?

It's a question of strengths. I would not swap out Cano because there is no adequate replacement and it would just fuck the team up. And I wouldn't trade Hughes either. I don't believe Santana is 100 percent healthy. He had a bad second half by his standards. Certainly not a second half worth trading the future for.
If the Twins want full value, then pass.

i would trade hughes. not joba. and id rather not trade kennedy. i think he pans out for years to come. i would NOT trade cano. fuck santana. sign him next year. no one is going to meet the twins asking price anyway.

My gut is that the Red Sox get him for a price much lower than the asking price for the Yankees.
But I wouldn't trade Hughes. Not now.

yea, aint that funny how the asking price to us is so outlandish, and then someone like the sox will swoop in and get him for next to nothing.
hughes=bust
i hate to say it. but i think joba and kennedy are the goods. not sold on hughes. im excited about him. i think he has great potential. my gut is telling me hes gonna bust.

Full value is fair.
You wanna steal the guy and think the Twins would go for it and at the same time scoff at the Twins trying to get the upper hand.
Now, qualifying what Full Value equals is the tough part.
IMO - Hughes Aint the man. Johan has proved that he is. I make the deal. Trade this fucker while he stil has a high value. If he flops next spring, by July we'd be lucky to get Carlos Santana to pitch for us.

I hope not. It's always the possibility and I understand the point about needing another pitch, but given his age and potential, and how high baseball america was on him, I would be disappointed if he doesn't hit his stride within 2 years. I'm not expecting him to be the 2008 Cy Young, but I have high hopes for both him and Chamberlain. Kennedy is the one I have the least amount of hope for, but the "moxie" factor really could make him into another Mussina. And keep in mind we have some MORE young pitching in the system right now, but they are over a year away.

No it's not when you can get him for free in a few months...
