I have every episode of 1st and Ten on DVD. HBO showed the movie like they do other movies. It wasn't an HBO production.
1st and Ten ruled.

Saw this as part of this weekend's horrorfest. They billed this (and the other 7 or 8 movies) as "Movies that are too graphic to be released." That's B.S. This was someone at the studio's idea to scrape up some $$$ for movies that would have otherwise remained on the scrap heap. More like movies that were too BAD to be released:

The Peter Boyle discussion in the RIP Thread made me think back to the funny movies discussion.
Johnny Dangeroulsy - in the spoof genre including movies like Airplane, Airplane II, Naked Gun, Scary Movie, Not Another Teen Movie, and the like....for my money you can't beat Johnny Dangerously and Top Secret.

You're absolutely insane. To compare those two movies to the king of the genre, Airplane, is disgusting. Even the Naked Gun movies spit all over those two movies you named.

The Naked Gun movies were horrible....unwatchable almost. Airplane I was good. It was the originator of that style.

The Naked Gun movies, especially the first one, were great. Johnny Dangerously was great in the first half, and sucked in the second. The moment Maronie was deported, the movie ended. Top Secret was a funny movie, but not in the league of Airplane.

I wonder how many times various forms of the ole' "There's a problem with the control panel"...."The control panel, what is it?"...."It's the thing with lights and gauges and buttons, but that's not important right now" joke has been used throughout those Airplane, Top Secret, Johnny Dangerously type movies.

I saw "We Are Marshall" this weekend. Ehhh . It's a compelling story that didn't make for a very compelling movie. One thing that threw me a little....I assumed Marshall was a I-A program - they are. At the end of the movie they talked about Marshall winning 2 national championships in the 90s. That threw me, so I assumed I was always wrong about them being a I-A team, when in fact they must be a I-AA team since I KNOW they didn't win the BIG National Championship - partly right. They won their championships in I-AA, and jumped up to I-A sometime in the late 90s. Here's the part that threw me - in the movie they alluded to Marshall and Bobby Bowden's West Virginia team being rivals. Surely West Virginia is and always has been a I-A team. So my question is, did they not have I-A, I-AA, etc... classifications back then, or was Marshall a I-A school back then, went down to I-AA, and recently come back up?

I thought it was a solid movie. Not exactly the inspiring kick ass film Rudy was, but solid. Wellington Mara's great granddaughter was in it. That had to suck being at the school in that time period.
Funny part was that at the end of the movie, when they were talking about National Championships, I thought they were NCAA Division II. I like how basically every football movie is "based on a true story."

The cheerleader chick, who also played gay cowboy's wife in Brokeback Mountain is Wellington Mara's great granddaughter?

www.imdb.com/name/nm0544718/She was in Brokeback Mountain, and also on 24. Actually, I'm wrong. She's his GRANDDAUGHTER. Great-Granddaughter of Tim Mara, founder of the NY Giants.

Youngblood. Wasn't all that, although many hockey pundits call it one of the best hockey films, and many put it ahead of Slapshot. Slapshot, by the way, is very overrated. We watched Youngblood this weekend. I did like it, although I was stuck watching the version I taped on Channel 55, and not an unedited version. Later on, just surfing IMDB, I noticed a lot of salty language from the movie in the quotes section we never heard.

Well, I didn't watch one second of the Oscars. The Oscars are just a night where smug actors act smug. The movies that are nominated are usually smug too and it's not often that I see them.
2006 was the worst year for movies that I can remember. They get worse every year too. A few years back I saw over 40 movies a year. This year, I may have gone to 15.
But most important, I have zero interest in the Oscars.

I'm with Balls. No interest in the Oscars. Its just the Hollywood types patting one another on the back again. I was, however, happy to see that Forest Whitaker scored a big win.
Dana and I watched "Hollywoodland" this weekend. Good movie. Ben Affleck did a good job.

I too want to see Hollywoodland. Glad to hear it's good.
I'm also glad Wittaker won, and I'm glad Martin Scorsese finally got a nod, which has been a long time coming. Glad they actually gave the best picture award to the best picture, for once.

I actually rented Hollywoodland because they were all out of The Prestige which was my first choice. I was glad I rented it though. Thumbs up. And although sometimes he sucks, I like Ben Affleck.

OK, so last night I watched "3" - it was a biographical recreation of the life of Dale Earnhardt Sr, an ESPN production done on a tight 20 day shooting schedule and a supposed shoestring budget for the project. I did not expect much going in, I find I am not a fan of the "based upon the life of this or that athlete" movies, for a variety of reasons. In fact, when I saw this was on, I almost decided to ignore it. Well, this said....really liked it. Thought it was well done. Thought everyone played their roles well. And, as much as I thought I knew about # 3 , I am eager to know more and really looking forward to the killer documentary style flick due out later this year. And yeah, I welled up a few times during this movie. Especially at the cornpone ending which followed his Daytona wreck, of the childhood Dale Sr waiting for his Dad once again outside the mill, in the fog. If you saw this, you know what I speak of. If you didnt, you would probably groan if you saw it.

LOL! LMAO! I just watched "Wet Hot American Summer." Taped off of VH-1 as a "Movie that Rocks" of all things. Cowritten by David Wain and Michael Showalter of The State fame, with an ensamble cast that not only includes fellow State alum, and others like David Hyde Pierce, Christoper Meloni, and Janane Garafolo, this movie was a sweet surprise. Spoof of the "summer camp movie" genre. At times corny, but at times there were laugh out loud floor-me funny. It was also funny to see Law and Order SVU's Meloni in a campy role. You would think the guy was a comic actor. Here's an Amazon write-up - if you guys can track this one down, watch it. The setting is Camp Firewood, the year 1981. It's the last day before everyone goes back to the real world, but there's still a summer's worth of unfinished business to resolve. At the center of the action is camp director Beth, who struggles to keep order while she falls in love with the local astrophysics professor. He is busy trying to save the camp from a deadly piece of NASA's Skylab which is hurtling toward earth. All that, plus: a dangerous waterfall rescue, love triangles, misfits, cool kids, and talking vegetable cans. The questions will all be resolved, of course, at the big talent show at the end of the day.

I think I saw that movie in the theater. It was pretty good, but you shouldn't have watched it on VH1. They edit it.

We saw the Reno 911 movie last night. It was good enough. If you had not seen the show, you would have been totally lost. It was fun to see a movie in a theatre that seats 500 or so, with 30 or so others.
As a Reno fan, I am happy, but it was not laugh a second like the shorter Comedy Central episodes. But I had a good time.

I saw The Guardian starring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher as Coast Guard rescuers. It was an ok movie, worth the $2.16 rental. But it wasn't that great.
For one thing, from the second the movie started, I called the ending. The funny part was that they filmed an alternate ending (which was on the DVD) due to fear of how the original ending would play out.
They thought their original ending would be more meaningful. But to me, it was predictable so it had no shock value other than to cause me to roll my eyes and say, "I called it."
I give the movie 2 stars out of four.
