Shonen Knife Saturday night. Great show as usual. If you like the Ramones, if you like girl rock groups, and you like some light hearted "poppy" rock and roll, you'll dig this band. I've been a fan for a long time.

Are those girls still around??? They've been around since the 80's. The drummer was quite cute...

Original drummer (Atsuko) is now the bass player after the original bass player (Michi) retired some years ago.
The next drummer died a few years back in a car accident in Jersey.
They have a newER drummer...Etsuko (maybe it's ITsuko...not sure).

Wow, I just googled them and they got old (like I didn't) and the new drummer is really young looking. I still think they're all still good looking.
I'm gonna have to dig up some old stuff of thiers that I have gathering dust..

I've always had a theory about Shonen Knife. Everyone thinks they are these cute, innocent, fun-loving little Japanese girls singing bubble-gummish pop-punk tunes about cute little forest animals, and kittens, and candy and flowers and pop-culture.
Personally, I think they are a bit more sinister than they are given credit for...which is a huge part of the appeal for me actually. I happen to think that most of their songs are laden with drug-use innuendo.
I mean come on...."Catnip dreams", "Brown Mushrooms", "Tortoise Brand POT cleaner", "I Am A Cat", "Riding On The Rocket"....their lyrics depict concrete playground animals coming alive, violent fights between cobras and mongooses, and all sorts of hallucinations from floating in space, riding on rockets, fishing for big black bass that have magical powers, addictions to popping "jelly beans" and "banana chips" and "choco bars", etc... it goes on and on..... GREAT BAND.

Didn't know where to put this and I didn't want to start a new thread so...... RUSH EXTEND WORLD TOUR INTO 2008 TORONTO, ON – December 12, 2007: After a hugely successful 2007 run, Rush are pleased to announce they will extend their Snakes & Arrows World Tour into 2008. The band will begin rehearsals in March to revamp the set list before kicking off the tour with their first ever appearance in San Juan, Puerto Rico in April. 2008 will see Rush tour in over 40 cities throughout the United States and Canada making stops in many where they haven’t performed in well over a decade including: Orlando, Oklahoma City, New Orleans, Austin, Jacksonville and Winnipeg to name a few. Along the way, Rush will play new venues in Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia and Seattle and will revisit some familiar ones in Boston, Washington and Charlotte amongst others. Rush fans can look forward to a complete tour announcement in mid January. As details develop more information will be made available at www.rush.com and www.livenation.com. Due to the overwhelming response of their fans in North America, the “Snakes & Arrows” tour has been Rush’s highest grossing tour ever and the best attended in many years. Snakes & Arrows (Anthem/Atlantic Records) was recorded in the fall of 2006 with Grammy Award-winner Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver) with Rush co-producing. Their first album of original material in nearly five years, Snakes & Arrows debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200. In addition, the track "Malignant Narcissism" has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the category Best Rock Instrumental Performance. Since releasing its self-titled debut album in 1974, Rush has been universally regarded as one of the most inventive and exciting groups in rock, famed for virtuoso musicianship, epic soundscapes, and dramatic lyricism. The band’s extraordinary body of work – which includes such acclaimed works as 1976’s “2112,” 1981’s “MOVING PICTURES,” 1996’s “TEST FOR ECHO,” and 2002’s “VAPOR TRAILS” – has achieved worldwide sales exceeding 35 million units. Fans will experience the technical virtuosity and hard-rocking compositions they have come to expect from Rush members, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart. The Rush tour in North America is produced by Live Nation Global Touring and SRO/Anthem. For complete tour & ticket information, fan club memberships and more, visit: www.rush.com

I saw Sugerland (with Little Big Town and Jake Owen) last month. One of the best shows that I have ever been to. They finished the show with everyone on stage doing "Pour Some Sugar On Me"

Most beautiful female voice ever, IMHO: The show was at a cool venue -- the Hiro Ballroom, part of the Maritime Hotel on 9th and 16th in Manhattan. I think Natalie said there were 280 tickets sold. Great show. I didn't know about 2/3 of what she played, but I'd pay to listen to her read The Wall Street Journal.

My wife and I went to Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban Friday at Mohegan Sun. We were very excited to see Carrie, and kind of undecided about the Keith Urban part of the show. As it turned out, Carrie's drums were turned up too much and it made her voice inaudible. Keith Urban was one of the best acts that we have ever seen. His guitar skills are incredible. His portion of the show was worth the $100 for tickets.

Going to see Sick Of It All on Saturday @ the Highline Ballroom. Don't really know much about this venue. I heard its like the Bowery Ballroom but bigger. Regardless, should be a great show. The best hardcore band and ther live show only adds to their legacy.
Also on the bill: The Unseen, Bloodclot (John Joseph from the Cro Mags), Wisdom In Chains, and Death Before Dishonor

FUSE-TV has been showing a condensed 60 minute airing from the MSG Foo concert. As I am not into the band, I demurred, but I know someone who was at the show who also saw the FUSE special, and they gave it the thumbs in the air.

So all of this Guttermouth talk with Joetee got me jonesing.
I have not seen Guttermouth play live since a St Patrick's Day show sometime around 94. That's a long time.
So I checked out the website....and the wife and I are gonna take in a Guttermouth show in Redondo Beach at some place called Venezia Italian Grill this Friday.
