In a year he'll be a 24 year old who needs a year to build his arm back. People recover from it, but people also are different after it. I hope he has a lot of success. I hope you're 100 percent right. Unless Sanchez actually has ace potential, I would think that they could have got a better prospect.
I know Sanchez is supposed to be good, but this is very disappointing.

Sanchez DOES have ace potential. He ranked as the #3 prospect in the system coming into the year, even with a litany of arm woes leading up to this surgery. Cashman bought him in KNOWING the risks and pretty much not caring. He said flat out a Sanchez with questions or a longer timetable to heal is a better bet than a surefire good pitcher. Sanchez can DOMINATE. He'll be fine. Relax.
Brett Smith - 7 hitless innings this weekend down there in AA.

Dude, this is corny, I went to both the site for Trenton, and the site for CT, and can not find ANYTHING on who is pitching for either club tonight. In fact, to my surprise, there are no plugs for the game at all worth a damn, including the hard-sell to get more people out to the game. Corny. I did, however, find out that Trenton will be hosting reality tvs "Rob and Amber" in a couple of weeks for some dumb reason.

Rob and Amber? WHY? They are Red Sox fans.

The Trentonian website doesn't have tonight's matchup either, but it does mention that the Thunder bullpen is 8-for-8 in save opportunities.
And Amber is really a Pirates fan.
ETA: Don't know who is pitching for Trenton today, but Mike Mussina will be starting for them on Friday.

He's still a prospect. He hasn't done anything. If he sticks for the year, he will no longer be a prospect.

Funny line in todays paper from Chase Wrights batterymate in AA ball, who during a phonecall after the infamous 4 home run pasting said, "hows your neck?"

Not really a specific prospect issue, but the Trenton Thunder's record is 19-2. Holy crap!

Some good news out of Scranton. Tyler Clippard has now allowed just 1 run in 14 innings, 2 starts. His ERA over his last 3 games is 0.93. Mr. Wonderful Ross Ohlendorf has been inconsistent though. He did pitch well his last time out--6.1IP, 0ER.
I'm not sure why Chris Britton is not in the majors. He should be in the pen.
Looks like Chase Wright has been moved to AAA. Got pelted in his first start there though.
I'm still waiting for Steven White and JB Cox to make their season debuts.

I told you Cox is a ways away. He broke his hand this winter, in a fight. Cost him a major league spring invite too.

I know. But even so, if he broke his hand in February, it's MAY now. You had said he was in extended spring. I'd like to see him join Scranton and move on so he can be tracked. I'm also looking forward to low A ball getting going so I can track Joba Chamberlain.

I didn't realize that. But still, when did he hurt his hand? That should take about 6 weeks to heal, and then it should be about therapy and of course conditioning for baseball. By now, he should be pitching unless it happened more recently than I'm thinking.

Ian Kennedy struck out 11 batters in 6 2/3 innings for yet another outstanding start. Kennedy (4-1, 1.43) has not allowed more than one run in seven of his eight starts this season.
Kennedy is an interesting fellow. Its been covered before, the Yankees took a good deal of guff for drafting him in the first round. In fact, Joba Chamberlain, who they got in the supplemental, was a much more touted option, but had health concerns. Kennedy is forecast as a steady middle of the rotation arm, although the Yankees drafted him in the spot of, and certainly paid him the money of, an ace.
It will be interesting to watch him develop. He can certainly surpass expectations, and is obviously on the right track at this stage.

I hope he not only can surpass projections, but can stay healthy. I'm so tired of young pitchers getting TJ surgery.
I like Chamberlain. He's an Indian, and not the Gandhi kind. Good old fashioned American Indian. He didn't allow a hit in 5 innings in his second start for Tampa. That's a real feather in his cap.

I enjoyed watching Clippard last night, big ears and all. I love his sloopy curve. Its also good that not only did he step up and pitch well, but unlike a few of the other "prospects" we have seen (Wright, DeSalvo) Clippard is projected all around to have more talent, and a higher window than those guys. So he is actually one to watch.
It is funny, however, to see him plastered on the back AND front pages of the POST like he just threw a perfect game, or won game 1 of the World Series.

Isn't he projected as a mid-rotation starter? Clippard was one of the top 10 prospects in Baseball America from the Yanks. Definitely should be considered more real deal than DeSalvo.
I don't know if it's fair to stick Wright in the same league as DeSalvo. He's a guy who might crack that top 10 list in a year. But Clippard is ahead of him now.
Bettances and Chamberlain are the guys to really follow now that every other great prospect is on the DL.

Yeah, Clippard is projected as a number four type. He has moxie, but his stuff has holes. Even the BA report says he finds a way to win, despite marginal, fringe stuff.
Wright will be ok, but Clippard is a safer bet. Wright also has the advantage of hurling from the left side.
Betances is drawing raves. Some feel he has the best arm in the system, even better than Hughes. But he is very young, and raw. I hope Chamberlain can stay healthy....the Yankees got him in a steal, only because of health questions, but he is fiercely talented.

I hate when they're in low A ball. You have to wait until June for the season to start. Too bad Betances is not in Staten Island.
I hadn't heard Betances had a better arm than Hughes. The only one I remember seeing that rave about was Chris Garcia, who of course is doing the TJ surgery thing.

I alluded to this in an earlier post in another thread. I keep wondering why it is being assumed that with the return of Roger Clemens and Phil Hughes the Yankees will suddenly have an injection of TWO great pitchers. I've heard this phraseology used numerous times in the past weeks in various media outlets pontificating on the future of the Yankees' season.
Did I miss something? When exactly did Hughes become a great pitcher. When did Hughes even become a major-league ready pitcher? He had one great start in Texas, that prematurely came to an end. Prior to that he had an abysmal start in Toronto. His stats in Scranton this season weren't exactly dominant, and he wasn't even expected or slated to be major league ready this year. How did he magically turn into a "great pitcher?" Because the Yankees suddenly need him?
Spin doctoring...I tell ya.
