Kudos to St. John's for beating Georgetown yesterday in Round 1. Today vs. Marquette (a top 25 team) at 2:30. Staying optimisitic....

Marquette's missing one of their best players, if my senile memory is correct. I'd be happy if the Red Storm are in the game with 4:00 to go.

Big Deal. Probably the most anti-climactic tournament in the country.
Spoiler Alert - UNC WINS!

They showed TO sitting in the stands at the GA Tech / Clemson game. Random?
I'm looking forward to the Maryland game, just because I want to see someone stomp on Greivis Vasquez; what an asshole that guy is.

One of my coworkers, who beat me in this morning, was up for the entire game last night. He feels ok now, but we agree he will be a puddle around 1PM.

6 OTs would suck because even if you win, you have to play one of the top teams in the country the next night.
Also, I'm happy to not be in the bracket of death. In another Sweet 16 bracket, the #1, #2, #3, and #7 teams in the nation are facing off for a Final Four spot.

I'm wasting time between games. That VA Tech / UNC game was a stresser.
wasn't so anticlimactic after all was it C? Though, we did win!

Small slip up for UNC. Although it was a close game, the outcome was never in question in my mind.
UNC is the class of conference and will find a way to win the conference tourney regardless of how close the games are.
I'm a Big East fan. The ACC is boring to me - Duke/UNC always. It was like the AL East in the late 90s, early 2000s. You always knew it was going to boil down to one of two.

There is an 85.8 percent chance that if F&M wins tonight, I will venture to Lancaster to root them on in the Elite 8.

I've never seen a real-live Amish person before, that would be cool! The closest I've ever gotten was this Amish porn I saw, but I think they were just 'acting'.

YOUR Franklin & Marshall Diplomats have made the Elite Eight!
I will be heading to Lancaster PA later today with the hopes of seeing F&M make the Division III Final Four for the fifth time in school history. They are an inexperienced team that has the most experienced coach. It's an interesting combo, and so far, it's working.
Hopefully F&M will take a formidable DeSales team down.

Might as well root for your team. St. John's sucks and NYU didn't make the D-III field.

So tomorrow is selection Sunday.
I will post the link for the bracket challenge. It's completely online, and automated.
I would like some advice on points schemes from all of you, since I'm guessing some of you will participate.
I've run this thing in the past where points for a correct pick double each round - 1,2, 4, 8, 16, and 32. I started to see a trend of people who didn't do very well in the early rounds ultimately winning the thing simply because they picked the national champ, even though they were outdone by others in early rounds who occasionally went with riskier picks and nailed a few upsets. To correct this I started reducing the National Champion pick value to 24, but it still hasn't quite evened the playing field. I'm wondering if now, should I increase the points for round 1.
I was thinking something like this: A correct pick in Round 1 = 4 points A correct pick in Round 2 - 6 points A correct pick in Sweet 16 - 8 points A correct pick in Elite 8 - 14 points A correct pick in Final 4 - 20 points A correct pick in National Championship game = 26 points
What do you think....or should I go back to the simple doubling of points per round.
Chime in, if you care. PM with your email address if you're playing.
Ohh, cost should be $10, if the number or participants is low, I might up it to $15 based on a majority vote.

I'm definitely down with a pool. I'm doing one through my work, but $10 is cool, I'll dominate! (probably not) and everyone already knows who I'm picking to win!

So I ventured the Lancaster PA to watch your Franklin & Marshall Diplomats defeat the DeSales Bulldogs to advance to the NCAA DIVISION III Final Four for the 5th time in school history and first time since 2000.
I sat in the same seat I sat when I was a student. In fact, before the game, I saw a small collection of pictures from when we made it to the Final Four when I was a sophomore. Not ONLY was I able to spot myself, I was wearing the exact same shirt! It was an F&M basketball t-shirt from that season.
Anyway, onto Salem, VA for the NCAA Final Four next weekend.

Wait a minute Balls. You were a sophmore in college in 2000? Seriously? I thought you were and old dude, like Tom and I.
I had it in my head that you'd been around the bleachers since the early 90s or so.

I think those were separate thoughts. He'd said they'd made it to the final4 four other times before 2000. Perhaps one of those times was when he was in college, in 19-whatever the hell.
Are there any recent F&M players to branch into the pros?

No. 2000 was the LAST time we were there. I'm talking about 1991.
But I've been in the bleachers since 1999.
And NO ONE is as old as Tom. Come on.

It's ON! I started my bracket challenge on paper, as a lowly UPS driver back in 1991. I've come a long way...I managed this thing on spreadsheets for a while manually, but I latched on to this pickhoops site about 4 or 5 years ago...it's all online, all automated, and a nominal fee (10 bucks) which will be deducted from the pot. I've run these things with pots as high as $1700.00 (but that was at $20 an entry). For now we'll go with $10. You can enter up to 2 brackets. I don't mind if the money comes trickling in during the course of the tournament, but I'd hope to have collected all funds by at least the Sweet 16, as I make it a point to pay the winner promptly. Here's the site: www.pickhoops.com/DinkinFlickaYou are invited to join the PickHoops bracket group DinkinFlicka 2009 bracket challenge Participants choose the winners of this year's NCAA college basketball tournament. To join, click here: www.pickhoops.com/DinkinFlickaYou'll be asked for your name and email address and to create a new user password for yourself. Then you'll be asked for the group password. Far more important, the F&M Diplomats, led by the winningest coach in D3 history, are going to Salem! However, despite all those wins, GRob has not won a championship.
This is a young team, and they are the heavy underdogs, but you never know.
