the unfortunate thing here is, not everyone can be online everyday. the other unfortunate thing is there is no way to tell when the red dl dissappears, so you cant even make a rule, that if the dl goes away and you dont drop a player within 48 hours, you lose your weekly transaction, because we never know when the red dl was dropped by yahoo. frustrating.
To tackle your points one by one, its a known fact your commissioner is online every day. Thus, my reasoning for wanting him to take on this part of his job. I am also on every day, which is why I obviously need to step in and do it for him until I reach a happy medium, up to and including a new commissioner next year who will do the job.
Secondly, I find it hard to believe that not everyone is on at least once a year to check their team. I am pretty sure 4 times out of 5 that someone is in violation they know all about it.
An easy way to see someone is in violation is to simply go into their lineup for the following Sunday and see if they have 25, or 26 players. One time I was STUNNED to see someone carrying 28 players on their team due to DL guys rotting away on there that no longer were red DLd. No excuses for that, especially in the case of that retard, who was posting on the old message board and in the yahoo that very day.
These are easy things to notice. And, sorry, if you are not able to realize when your own players are coming off the DL, or going on it, you may be wasting your time playing fantasy baseball. I understand with the help of all these wonderful fantasy websites you dont have to watch any baseball to play solid ball cause other people or computer programs pick your team for you, but the least you could do is make sure you have an active TWENTY FIVE MAN roster.

If you feel the need to get a new commissioner based on checking each team for the DL everyday, then go right ahead.

tom. i am talking about not everyone in the league being on everyday. i know i cant get online most weekends. so if one of my players comes off dl on a saturday, my hands are tied until monday.
i think we as a group, need to check rosters as much as we could, and contact msb with any violations. as far as punishment, what can we do. if you catch me on a sunday with a guy on my dl who came off on saturday, i am going to say i cant move him until monday because i dont have access. im sure other people are in that boat too. but this is a problem that needs to be addressed somehow.

Larry, that is fine. But if someone is claiming to not be online, yet they are poking around section39.com, they are a liar. And punishments would not start that day, the reason I want this checked daily is so someone can be alerted and given a proper amount of time to make the move. If they are online, that day should be more than enough. If there are extenuating circumstances, its up to the commissioner to tell us that as a league. People in blatant violation should have their team locked through the next weekend of transactions. I mean, FOR CHRISTS SAKE, there is someone in violation right now! Does that not prove my point?

The person in blatant violation actually has somone on his bench that belongs on the DL, and someone on the DL who should be on his bench. It's not terrible.

Checking once a week, on say Wednesday, to assure that players needing to be dropped can clear waivers by Friday, would be a bare minimum, but the commish should really check every day.
As for the stupid red DLs, everyone should know when they have a player who will be imminently coming off or potentially going on the DL, and it is really not that hard to give Balls a heads up on this. You can't claim players until the DL appears, but you CAN drop guys before the DL goes away if you know they will be activated that day or you can ask for the unlock preemptively.
I know we don't all sit in front of the computer all day, but if you can't get to the computer at least once every 24 hours, there's no reason you can't email a request to Balls, like "Carl Pavano might be activated this weekend... if he comes off the DL before 10 am on Monday, I'd like to drop Sidney Ponson because he is a fat drunk who sucks."
If you have a DL issue for more than 24 hours and have not let Balls know or let the league know that you are away, then you deserve to be sanctioned, you slacker.

i think laura brings up a great point in that if msb will only check this once a week, it should be on tuesday or wednesday, that way slackers need to drop players that will clear by friday/saturday. i think its up to us 12 then to police ourselves. bored at work. 39 and hecklehouse suck, check peoples dls.

I have no problem with making it Tuesday/Wednesday at all. In reality, I can try to do it more often, but I won't PROMISE more than once a week.

I also think TJ's point was valid... policing ourselves is a great goal, but does not exactly work for those who are, um, "deliberately being evasive" regarding the rules... the role of the commish is to catch the cheaters.

Yes it is, Laura, and that is why I am baffled and seriously pissed off at Balls' blatant shrugging this off. Its not going unnoticed, and will play a role in how this league is run next year, and by whom, I imagine.
Its absurd that an obvious fault is being flaunted, and the commissioner wont give us the 5-10 minutes a day needed to close it up. That is why I will be more hands-on regarding this, and also why penalties will be stiffer, cause I am not as lenient as him. Nor will our next commissioner be.
Another easy way to close this up is to check the MLB transactions day to day, to see who is coming off the DL...then simply search and find them, and monitor the situation.

This is all talk. Balls will be the commish next year, and the cheaters will still cheat. Thank you. Jw

And again, by policing ourselves, that doesn't necessarily mean just your own team. If you see something, say something.

Wait are you saying that Balls is not being compensated for putting up with all the B.S. that goes along with being the commissioner for this crew ?

not for nothing, but if the people who win this league, dont tip out msb, that is seriously wrong. i know i tipped him out when i won, and he alluded that he hardly has seen tips floated his way.
folks, 10% is customary to someone who runs a league. i tipped the guy 10% and he almost fell over. tips you cheap fucks. tips.

It's crowded at the top of the session. Suzy's team had an 87 point night, good enough to make Larry, the heavy preseason favorite, fall to second place. Meanwhile, Tom, who finished in second in 2005, gained a little ground on Pops. Yet the big surprise is that of all people, the current leader in the session is actually KNOBLAUCH.
I can't believe it either.
Laura is now 61 points out of 11th place where Jose may become the first original member of the league to be Walkman Johned out of existence for a year.
Justin and Evan have moved into a dead heat for 6th place, with Justin's team clearly on the rise.
Knoblauch--157 Suzy--150.33 Neil--148 Justin--138.33 Evan--116.33 Milton--110 Pops--104 Larry--99.33 Tom--97.67 Capone--97.33 Jose--72 Laura--51.67

I like that I get a negative ten from one of my starters, and still gain ground on anyone.

As the session continues, heavy preseason favorite Larry has moved back to within just 3 points of the overall lead. Suzy is still having a solid session, but Tom, who came in second in 2005, lost some ground on the leaders. Defending champion Jose had the best night with 61 points. With Capone gaining nearly 40 points on 4th place Tom, Tom has officially left no man's land and is now part of the main pack, which covers places 4-8. Still, third is not out of reach for Tom, who finished in 2nd place in 2005.
But the real story is that for one more day, unbelievably, the leader of the session is still, KNOBLAUCH of all people. No one expects this lead to last, but stranger things have happened.
Finally, Laura is starting to get firmly entrenched in the basement. She is now nearly 100 points behind Jose, who is in 11th. So basically, Laura has ten guys on top of her right now, and Suzy is on top of THEM.
Knoblauch--185 Suzy--176.33 Justin--165 Neil--163 Capone--154.33 Larry--143.33 Milton--138 Evan--136.33 Pops--136 Jose--133 Tom--116.67 Laura--71.67

Well, I have my "ace" on the hill tonight, Matt Cain, on what is otherwise a slow night for games. I need to make up a little ground here. My pitching this past week has been putrid.

haha. matt cain is your "ace". that is pretty sad in itself.
have fun trying to make up ground on me on this "otherwise slow day" as i have true aces in andy pettitte and jared weaver going today. add 2 games from arod and you will be VERY hard pressed to not lose significantly more ground on me today.

Yeah, its so sad that that pitching staff has kept me no lower than 4th for the last month. You WiSH you had Matt Cain. In fact, I seem to remember you mentioning that to me at some point.
Once Harden comes back, theres my true ace. John Lackey ain't so bad himself. I will be fine.
Andy Pettite is NOT a true ace. Give me a break. And continue to overrate Jared Weaver, as well, by all means.

Hell yeah, I would take Lackey over Pettitte. We'll crunch numbers after the season.
Oh, I hear you on Harden. I was warned about this. The risk had ashot of being worth the reward, but......yeah, he won't last. And it pisses me off.

and pettitte would have been rolling this year if not for the bullpen blowing 2 leads already. i know, everyone goes through that. thankfully, so far, its only been with pettitte for me.
