I agree that Pettitte isn't an ace, but he could be a solid #2 starter and that's valuable in both fantasy and real baseball.

Actually, I would not be surprised if Matt Cain is a Top 5 SP when the numbers shake out at the end of the season. Lackey is solid, and I would rather have him than Pettitte.
Not trying to make this "pile-on Larry" day, as you know I relish every opportunity to rip Tom's team, but Cain scares me. The only thing will be if he can be strong down the finish, as is the worry with all young pitchers. But that kid is good.
Dice-K and K-machine James Shields go today for the Dicks.

I didn't say Lackey and Cain are aces. There really aren't that many true aces in all of baseball.

hmmm. i better go do my research on starting pitching. ive gone so top heavy with hitting this season i must be falling asleep on pitching. i value justins opinion much with these matters. so i guess tj, i owe you a bit of an apology for mauling your boys. i guess now i know why you are solidly holding down 4th place for now.

Thanks for stepping back on that. My bottom end is shaky to say the least, but a healty Harden would give me 3 guys I will go to war with anytime. It also does not hurt to have Greg Maddox hanging around. Wont win the league leading your staff, but as a #4 in this sort of league?
I kinda sorta know what I am doing.
But man, do NOT miss the boat on Cain. What a joy to watch. This guy seems to tease a no-hitter at any time. He can be absolutely DOMINANT.

I would say to get a real good look at him now. He's 22 and he averaged 117 pitches over 3 outings this past month. Seems a bit early to be working him that much. That might be corrected if Tim Lincecum can boot Ortiz out of the rotation and eat some innings, but otherwise I have a feeling Cain will slow down once the dog days hit. I'd still love to have him right now though.

More likely Lincecum will come in and eat some of those innings on the back end. From most accounts the Giants dont want to rush him, and will work him in a set-up role to start. But talk about a guy with sick stuff....
One reason Cain threw so many pitches was cause he was working on no-no's and 1 hitters.
If he does go down, though, show me the nearest bridge, and I shall jump off.

I didn't say he would go down, but he will slow down. I don't care why it happened -- he's pitching a lot. If it keeps up, he will slow. As for Lincecum, I don't care what they are hoping to do...Russ Ortiz is AWFUL, and they will look to replace him.

I think the only knock you can make on Cain is looking at this numbers the last few years he does tend to walk a lot of guys, that should explain at least some of the high pitch counts. Jw

,Since you guys are talking about pitching, here is the way I will make it back to back and belly to belly.....
1. Johan Santana (letting me down so far .... too early.... ) 2. Roy Oswalt (he is been ok so far ... not great, but he will be soon) 3. Roger Clemmens (come back allready you fucking bum) 4. Pedro Martinez (feeling better than ever and resting under the mango tree) 5. Bartolo Colon (good so far) and of course Mr Lincecum getting ready to step in anytime........
and that to someday having my 3 options at closer (Gagne, Dotel and Gordon) and I may even win this thing with a catcher and a 2B that couldn't hit the water if they fell out of a boat......
You gotta to love it......

I got Wong & R.J. back Herandez will be back the 9th , I hope & I still have the Gambler on the d.l. Looper is looking like he fond his calling as a starter . He may be the waive pick up of the year . Then the Wolfetones will start moving on up . But what the hell is up with Michael Young ? I had him on the bench then he started to hit a bit , but looks like he hit the snooze button & went back to sleep .

I can not believe Balls is not getting paid for helping us out with league . I purpose that we rise the league fees $ 10 to pay Balls . even that seems a bit to low for all the work & time he puts in .

and that to someday having my 3 options at closer (Gagne, Dotel and Gordon LOL! How bout MY 3 options at closer....(Valverde, Street....MYERS) Someone did not see todays papers. Martinez will be marginal. Clemens, all signs are he is NOT coming back. Lincecum is bullpen bound. And, take it from someone who has had Colon for years.....I'm glad you have him.

The worst thing for Jose if Clemens doesn't come back is that to dump him, he would be using a weekly move and will have wasted his 11th round draft pick.

Tom ...... did you have Greinke, Hirsh and Lohse in your starting rotation this week .....LOL and you are making fun of Colon ..... didn't you watch the replacements ? ...... there is a difference between has been (Colon) and never was (your 3 guys).... at least I could hope that if a couple of things go my way I MAY have the best rotation in this league.... in order for that to happen to you 75 pitchers from other people have to go on the DL or die.....
And for the record Lincecum may be starting on Sunday, Pedro will probably be back around the all star break and probably be one of the best pitchers in the league for the remaining of the year and Clemmens if he decides to pitch will do the same.....
As for the closers I just had the worst possible luck.... one after another they keep on getting hurt (usually at the start of the week) ..... but is allright .... is not the way you start, is the way you finish.......

I just noticed your "ace" mr Cain just got destroyed by the phillies ..... I guess it doesn't matter that Gordon is hurt, he wasn't going to get the save today anyway.... since they just scored a bunch of runs on your ace....

Hey Balls can you brake it down in to percentages of wins vs. seasons played in . not everyone as been the league from its conception . Oh & do we give Suzy credit for Knoblauch's big finish some years back ?

Did Knoblauch hack into Tom's account? One would think yes given what happened to Matt Cain. Touted by Tom as his ace and a perennial no hit candidate, Cain responded with a -17 performance. Not to be outdone, Jose Valverde provided -11 in relief.
Overall, Tom managed a -4 on the night, and after several weeks with a firm grip on 4th place, he fell to 5th, just 3 points out of 6th.
Capone had the best night of anyone with 49 points, and scooted past Tom into 4th.
As for the session, Suzy's team's pitching has propelled her ahead of Knoblauch and into the session lead. Larry also had a rough night on the mound which caused the heavy preseason favorite to fall a little further behind Suzy in the overalls.
Suzy--215.33 Knoblauch--212 Capone--203.33 Neil--191 Justin--183.67 Jose--164 Pops--160 Milton--155 Larry--150.67 Evan--117.33 Tom--112.33 Laura--79.67

Jose's posts make me laugh. I can't tell whether he's serious or not. I hope, for his sake, he's not. Because his team fucking blows.
I think Clemens will end up coming back. There will be enough money thrown at him. But Pedro? Fuck....he'll be worthless this year. And you have one closer....Joakim Soria. The rest? Gagne? Gordon? Dotel? lol

You really think Pedro will be worthless? I haven't followed it too much, but I thought I read that his rehab was going extremely well and he may be back ahead of schedule.

When Pedro was last around, he was not exactly setting the world on fire. And when he does come back, he is going to be marginilized by strict pitch counts and Phil Hughes-like babying, waiting for him to get hurt again. This is not the 1990s, Pedro is not going to swoop with his cape to save the day.

Strike that...he won't be worthless. But he won't be the stud Jose thinks he will be. He won't be any more valuable than most decent starting pitchers.

It would make me very happy if Pedro never pitches again. It would also make me happy if Tino Martinez kicked him in the balls.

True, but if you look at your record compared to the rest of the league, it's phenomenal.
You're 16-6 right now, and lead the league in strikeouts. A loss is -5 points. You have just 6 of those. By comparison, Tom has 16 losses. He's 10-16. If he was 13-13 and nothing else changes, Tom would still be in 4th place, and much closer to Pops. Only Laura has had worse pitching than Tom.
