It was a pretty awesome angle. Nice to see them shake things up a bit. It did have an nWoish feeling, and made me want to watch NXT.
Makes me think what could have been had they used ECW like this. Treat it as a separate brand, don't move people around, and then start a feud. Classic invasion angle.
Of course, the idea that no one in the locker room would come out is a bit uncharacteristic of wrestlers, even if they got beat down one at a time, but it was still pretty cool.

Trust me, you dont necessarily want to watch NXT. These same guys who carried out one of the greater beatdowns in wrestling memory were doing things like "carry the keg challenge" and "who can sell the most programs to the most fans in the next 2 minutes" sort of challenges. The matches were clunky, and the show lost even MY interest quickly. I have the last 6 episoded backed up on the upstairs DVR.
Yeah, one of the storyline flubs is no one around to help. Maybe since it was the last match we are led to believe everyone showered and left the building. It was interesting to see Punk even trying to help and catching a beating.
Great angle. But its all in the follow-up. Lets see where we go from here. And the more I think of it, the more i hope the guy pulling the puppet strings is indeed Michael Cole.

I know. Michael Cole being a big heel would be hilarious. They should work the "everyone else left the building" theory into it.
When nWo first started, were Hall and Nash attacking faces and heels alike?
That was the best part of the whole thing.
It's rare when faces and heels have a common enemy. Using "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" storyline is rare, and always fun.

Yeah, there were a lot of times NWO ran rampant, and you would find the Horsemen (heels) on the same side of Sting, Luger, guys like that (faces) - there was one memorable scene when the NWO went on a rampage in the back lot (this is when Mysterio was tossed like a dart into a trailer by Nash) and both faces and heels were victimized, and riding out in the same ambulances.
The one main worry is that most of the NXT guys are savagely green, and wont be able to carry their end. But there are some good workers in the bunch, and not one guy in that group would offend me by getting a regular role in the WWE.

One interesting aspect will be what happens with the next 8 NXT guys. They could be incorporated into the angle.
The nWo angle was one of the best of all time, but one issue they had was ending it.
I thought the NXT guys would rip of Punk's mask too.
I'm surprised they didn't.
If they really want to try to recreate the nWo angle, they'll have to have someone who CAN handle it, be the mastermind. James' theory of Jericho or Miz being behind it would be smart booking.

This next batch, with the exception of 3 guys, is terribly underwhelming. Some of them are just awful...that could not be said overall about any of the 1st season guys.

I just watched it and it was one of the best things I've seen on RAW in ages.
I had no idea they just destroyed the place for a good 10 minutes. I spit up my coffee when Justin Roberts got choked out with his tie. LOLOLOLOL!!!!
Danielson spitting in Cena's face was awesome. Fantastic angle. Totally didn't expect this.

Who are the 3 guys in the next batch you like?
Mr. Perfect's kid and Loki are the two most interesting.

Rotundo(a)'s son is interesting and so is that 7 foot guy. I'm curious to see if they let Kaval use that finisher off the top where he just jumps on people. They can't let that fly.
And yeah, the end of Monday night was spectacular.

The invasion angle has been done and I wouldn't be against it if WWE did it right, but they never do the invasion angle right. I agree with Tom, it's all in the follow up. There are a few ways they could go that would just be horrible. So hopefully they do the right thing.
And speaking of the right thing, Mr. Perfects kid is gonna be called McGullicutty? Fucking awful. Let him use the Hennig name, it has a long standing history in the business, it's a spit in the face to Perfect and Larry "The Axe".

I was actually going to ask about that--why NOT use the name Hennig? They ACKNOWLEDGED the lineage for crying out loud.

Agree with just aboout everything written here...one of the worst 2:50 of a RAW ever and then the final 10 minutes was one of the best ever......Justin Roberts getting choked was classic and I am not really sure but for a second a two you see them beating down a bald guy by the ring post that came out to help and I could have sworn it was The Fink but it was so quick and cut away as he fell to the ground you couldn't see who it was....Now the hard part will WWE drop the ball on this angle like they have for most every angle the last several years...I wonder if the NXT guys will go to Smackdown and rip it up too!!!!!
Yes Cole being involved would be good as would either Miz and Jericho.....On a side note I am happy my boy Woo Woo Woo seems to be getting a push lately and is even a trainer on NXT this season.....I liked during NXT last night when he was in the tag match with his guy, Titus O'Neil and he was yelling at him what to do, like "cover him now" then "do the dog bark" and he barked like a dog. It was also kind of funny when Stryker was trying to take the mic away from Cody Rhodes in the ring when they were interviewing the participants in the previous tag match.

Well, not to spoil anything, but they did not appear on Smackdown at all. This appears to be an anti-Raw sort of thing. In the other thread, I did write about how the feud continued on a FCW show, though.
That bald guy was not Fink, he was another of the ringside crew.
There was a real sort of menace to that angle the other night. I wish they would start beating up celebrity guest hosts, actually.

Unrelated, I'm not sure the new angle with Ted Dibiase is going to work. What made the original work so well was the humor, and the fact that everyone DID sell out.
If week after week, people are going to say no, it kills the gimmick.

Awesome heat for Nexus tonight, I was worried when they got the best of Taker.
Hope Jericho isn't taking another break or retiring for good.
I loved the first segment. They mention Michaels, make Bret vs Taker, and out of Kane, Taker and Hart, HBK is the only one that can still go right now better than anyone? Yeah Taker and Kane are most active but limited and no one expects Bret to do one god damn thing, but it made it obvious the guy who's retired could come back right now and out wrestle them all? And thumbs down on the only DX shown was the WCW invasion, yeah it was cool when it happened but in retrospect the earlier version was much more edgier. Guess that's why they went with the WCW invasion thing, much more PG.

I only watched the first hour so far, but the whole Bret Hart in the ring thing is a big problem because too many people know he can't take a bump. It's not Hart's fault, and I have no problem with him being in the WWE on the air. That's fine. But they need to drop the pretense that he can still wrestle. When the "general manager" set him up in that match with the Undertaker, it was just stupid.

Nexus some nice heat back, or, Barret did. Alberto Del Rio is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!! I think they day after he debuted, Tom and I watched Smackdown at the same time because we each sent each other a text about his entrance. Fantastic stuff.

Are you talking about his first Smackdown match that set up the mini feud with Mysterio?
I actually like that too. But I am a notorious Rey Mysterio hater. But that said, I recognize he's one of the top faces on Smackdown. So it says a lot about the WWE's confidence in DelRio that he was allowed a clean win over a former WWE champ in his debut match. Not exactly a win over a jobber.

It was his entrance and antics during the match that sold us. Him standing on Rey's arm on the steps, and smiling to the crowd drew MASSIVE heat, and a massive LOL from me. That won me over big time.

No doubt, but I'm just saying that the WWE must really like the guy. Can you think of someone, face or heel, getting such a high profile victory in his first match? Add the fact that he's not established at all. Tax got a big win over Angle, but he was an ECW monster when he got to the WWE.

Overall, it wasn't bad, but maybe it could have been better. The biggest problem I have with legends showing up is that they usually get involved in a match and just job out. Because you KNOW they are just going to job out, there is really no point to watching them wrestle.
That's why the Sgt. Slaughter match was the worst part of the night for me.
Some legends still got it. Some don't. Cowboy Bob Orton doesn't have it anymore. Piper does though. Not that Piper could wrestle, but he still has the gift on the mic, and he looked like he lost some of that big gut he got over the years.
Mean Gene and the Fink could step back into their old jobs easily if the WWE wanted.
Guys like DiBiase and Arn Anderson are being used well, especially Ted Sr. I like how Ted Jr. is using his dad's gimmick, without copying it, and I liked how he moved to the next feud.
I think it's safe to say that Mae Young can't take a bump anymore.
I like how they're finally acknowledging the Rhodes' family.
The Kozlov/Volkoff duet was awesome. Too bad the Iron Sheik messed up by trying to do his promo during Slick's song.
Remember when Ezekiel Jackson called himself Ahmed Johnson?
I'm curious if they will get into legal trouble for the WWF logo.

I really liked the JR and Cole bit.....had me laughing...I also like the "old school" steel barriers at ringside.....always good to see the old timers and just the sight of them brings a smile to my face though they can't move as well or not at all in some cases......Agree The Fink is a thousand fold increase over all the ring announcers they have now..Also like seeing Chavo Classic driving in DelRio....I also liked when they were talking about the "great" Brooklyn Brawler vs Red Rooster feud....Good Times and I hope this is an annual event......
How could I forget the Lord Alfred Hayes type commercials....I miss Stetson, Edge and Castrol...

I've said this to Tom in the past--why NOT use the Fink?
It makes no sense assuming he wants to do it. I'll add that Mean Gene could probably return to his interviewing role as well.
The line of the year was a few weeks back on Raw when Edge insulted Cole by bringing up JR.
I agree--it's fun to see the old timers, but I have no desire to see them wrestle the younger guys and get their asses kicked.
I've also come to the conclusion that I'm not really a fan of Mr. Perfect's kid. I think he's too fat.
