Couple of things. Beth rocks the house. With Cheerleader Melissa doing an abbreviated schedule, Beth is my favorite female "wrestler." She is great in the ring and looks good doing it. Whats funny is Beth did a match for SHIMMER, she was at their initial taping, and played a comic role, if you can imagine that. The old chicken-shit blonde bimbo character.
I'll poke around my sources for pics of Beth not done up like a movie star.
As to the WWE changing focus a bit, they are doing the right thing. When they used to put the women in the ring, they looked like clods. Now at least a few of them can go, but they are still lacking in regards to percentage of girls getting tv time who can wrestle credibly. McCool has taken to more a "submission" based style, and it works. She is thin as a stick, though. She needs some meat on them bones.
Natalya is a very good wrestler, we have not seen the best out of her yet. Mickie can go, no doubt. Katie Lea is a sleeper, she is another very good wrestler. WWE needs to give the women time to develop the story in the ring, even the last PPV womens match went only 4 minutes.
As to the Knockouts, they are up to 2 segments a show, as they are still pulling the highest rated segments, which is a hoot when you consider a roster that has Angle, Christian, Sting, Booker, etc on it. One reason they dont give Velvet Sky a lot of ring-time is she is reputed to be stunningly bad in there. I have not seen that...she does seem to work in slow motion and she is clumsy, but she is no early-Kelly Kelly.
Angelina is more the wrestling talent on that team. But geez, what smarmy heels. As to Roxxi, she has it in her....she is an East Coast indy standard, the fans love her, and she developed into quite the fan-favorite in SHIMMER after starting as a curtain-jerker. But it was without promos, they never cut many. I have seen some of her stuff on an Indy webcast, and also on YouTube, so she can talk. But I think by not talking, they dont ruin the "mystique" and there is some mystery to her character. The fans are buying it regardless, she is a fave of the fans.

I guess, I don't see them buying too much into Roxxi. They want to see her shave Angelina or Velvet's head, but after that then what? If she's going to be a credible challenger for Kong, she needs to have more character, at least a backstory, something so she's not just the outcast, victim who the cool kids pick on.

Seems like TNA is bringing in another one - a bruiser, not a diva. Mickie Knuckles - believe it or not, it IS her real name. She wrestles hardcore style, complete with blood and weapons. I am pretty confident she wont be bringing this over, but expect some brawls between her and ODB down the line. Her initial role? Hanging with "The Beautiful People." Basically they are trying real hard to get people to hate on Angelina and Velvet. I suppose she is playing a bodyguard role. I have read much of her, but never seen her in action. I'll probably take a trip to YouTube, see what I can dredge up before she appears on these next couple of shows.

Jesus, based on the pic you posted, it looks like the Beautiful People hired a 12 year old. Fuck has she graduated college yet?
I'll have to look up on her as well, no clue who she is. But if she gets the BP more heat, I'm all for it.

That may be an older shot. But you get the idea. Poking around I seem to see some people LOVE her, some people HATE her. On one board someone compared it to the travesty of TNA signing Pacman Jones.
At this point I am kinda thinking TNA is angling for a womens show, as the ratings are still rocket-high for those segments, and they are bringing in a whole heap of them. In fact, Daffney wrestles on this upcoming taping (but I am not sure if this is a one-shot or what) - they are, however, bringing in a lot of talent.

Spent part of the last couple of nights watching CHICKFIGHT 8, live from a club in merry old England. A unique thing on this particular volume is that there are no commentators. You just hear the slams, shrieks, some taunts back and forth at the crowd, and some English guys chanting and saying, "whoa!"
Couple of the matches go outside the ring and behind the bar, and on some raised stage. Cheerleader Melissa and "The Jezebel" Eden Black had a Hell of a brawl, with the ref simply calling for the bell when Black could not continue cause Melissa put a world of hurt on her. The ring was too small, it was like the size of a giant bed. But there was still some good action, a lot of brawling, and it was a decent atmosphere for a match. The extra was a squash featuring some scared girl who turns out to be like 16 years old. She was crushed by some behemoth named Pandora who makes Awesome Kong look like Jessica Alba.

I have no idea why it took so long for me to think of this. Gregory Helms is a friend of mine on myspace, and I got all the other WWE guys on there from his page. But I never looked further than that. So I thought, what if Velvet Sky is a myspacer, she has to be on his page. First friend on there, for obvious reasons. So I naturally send a friend request, but set to private. I hope she's not one of those up tight chicks on myspace and accepts. She has to get a ton of friend request being number one on Helms' page. Crossing my fingers she accepts, cause his page won't be the only one where Velvet's in someones top friends. I'm pretty sure she gave her URL on some hack radio show I don't listen to, so more to come as it develops.
Speaking of which, I have never enjoyed the word holler until I heard the Beautiful People use it. And if I were to make a bet, I'd say TNA's closer to launching the all Knockout fed sooner than we think. Cornette's bringing up how it's the highest rated segment on the show, I got a feeling it's coming soon. If I were writing the first episode, the Beautiful People win the TNA Knockout Tag Team Championship. How do you not laugh at the paper bag treatment?

While taking my YouTube ganders last night, pulled out a Jap classic and one of my favorite female grapplers, the dangerous striker Yoshiko Tamura. Went on about her on here before. For those unitiated, check out this spirited battle against Chikaya Nagashima.....this will help change any jaundiced views of womens wrestling. So I like the way they kinda switched up on this Kong "challenging and beating up the fans" gimmick. Now they have it where indy womens wrestlers are "showing up at the Impact Zone" for a shot at the money. This week they had longtime stalwart Amber O'Neil, Becky Bayless (who some of you may remember from those same 6-hour Indy shows we saw Matt Striker on) and Daffney, who is all over the place on the Indy scene lately. And it was Daffney who was squashed. I liked the fact that Borash did not act oblivious to who they were, even naming two of them by name before intros, and mentioning he had seen Becky "before." I am sure! Of this lot, I am obviously more the Becky fan, as she looks good, and works hard in the ring. Daffney can be Helluva annoying, and Amber is a bit long in the tooth, but she has earned her spots. As I mentioned before, I am thinking some sort of womens show may be on the horizon. And I like where I hear the Kong / fan challenge is going....Shantelle Taylor, one of my top twos, who has been seen in the stands beckoning for a shot, is supposedly the one who will come out, beat her, and have the rocket strapped to her back. THE CHALLANGERS THIS WEEKSHANTELLE

Well, Shantelle Taylor finally got her crack at Kong this past week, and although she finally took the fall, it was a Hell of a trip there. She put in a lot of offense, and looked quite sharp. While it was odd they dubbed her "Taylor" instead of "Shantelle" (its not like there are a lot of Shantelle's out there), in the grand scheme of things, who cares. Cause - SPOILER - she is back this week! And even more a role on the 7/3 show... Fantastic, looks like she has got herself immeshed in TNA doings. Shantelle Taylor is a Hell of a grappler, and looks good while doing it. I was happy to see whatever breast augmentation she had done did not effect her, as she was flipping around and even landed a Hell of a dropkick off the ropes on Kong. Oh, and one more thing - highest rated segment on Impact again - the Knockouts = money. From Impact...

Well, TNA bruiser "Moose" was seriously injured at an indy show last night. As in Sid "snap the leg" seriously hurt. Her career may be over. Its terrible news for her, as she had a nice gig as the muscle of "The Beautiful People", and either just signed a TNA contract or was close to do so.
She looked piggish but she was getting a push, with wins over ODB and Roxxi on the last two episodes of Impact. Below is from wrestlingherald.com, and I found it linked off the Torch board.
TNA Knockout Mickie "Moose" Knuckles seriously injured Posted on Jul 07 2008 @ 1:46am by Mike Landau
TNA Knockout Mickie "Moose" Knuckles wrestled earlier tonight at an IWA Mid-South show and suffered a serious injury as what can only be compared to Sid's injury at WCW Sin 2001 when his leg snapped after jumping off the 2nd rope, only this injury, by all accounts is worse.
The show was called off after she compound-fractured her leg above her knee. From what I am told Moose (Mickie) was selling a foot injury for the match. The spot was Moose doing a running dive on her opponent from the top of a cinder block wall near the announcers table but instead of running she hobbled to the edge to sell the injury and jumped. It appeared to be that her knee buckled and her leg snapped. I'm told it snapped right above her knee and she landed completely vertical. Apparently Ego Fantastico did a similar spot earlier in the night and she was trying to top that spot, according to one person I talked to. Ian Rotten and others came out and 911 was called. Thats when everything stopped and the show was called off.
We'll update you more on this situation as we get more information but more importantly we wish Micke "Moose" Knuckles a speedy recovery from this horrific injury.

Holy crap. That leg looked like a piece of pasta - albeit a fat one, hanging off the side of a plate. While you cant see the moment of impact, you can surely see the drastic result. Ouch.
To change pace from the gruesome to the grand, I got a kick out of seeing my TWO FAVORITE FEMALE GRAPPLERS for a couple of years now, Shantelle Taylor and Cheerleader Melissa, hooking up on Impact last week. Sure, it was not the way i envisioned in a ring, with "Taylor" battling "Raesha Saaed", but I still got a kick out of it.
WWE dropped the ball on Taylor, who was in developmental. And while I wish they would get Melissa out of that garb and gimmick, cause at the least it hampers her spectacular ringwork, I will take what I can get from those two on the national stage.

Not sure what this is all about, but Gail Kim is gone from TNA. Here's the cryptic announcement as it hit the web on PWINSIDER.com TOP KNOCKOUT GONE FROM TNA by Mike Johnson @ 10:33 PM on 8/20/2008Gail Kim, who the entire TNA Knockouts division was initially built around and was the first Knockouts champion, is gone from TNA. I don't have details regarding the departure yet, but TNA did remove Kim from their roster and Knockouts sections this evening. One source commented, "It means exactly what you think it means."
Kim, a former WWE Women's champion, had been with the company since October 2005, originally as a valet for Jeff Jarrett and America's Most Wanted. Kim graduated into the top babyface for the Knockouts division, including a really good feud against Awesome Kong.
In recent months, she had been among the top of the babyface Knockouts alongside ODB, Roxxi and current champion Taylor Wilde, but had not been portrayed as the top female in the division. She'll actually be featured on this Thursdays TNA Impact, battling Kong. Her "sister" - who has been featured sitting around ringside fearing for Gail, actually does a run-in. I would imagine they wont be pushing ahead with that angle. Gail is a Hell of a wrestler, and the surprise is, as mentioned, that the TNA Knockouts division was sort of her baby. She pushed for all this years ago. Its a major loss to that division. I wonder if WWE is, or has, come calling.

Oh my, this is going to cause a heap of folks to go all agog. I never heard a good thing bout their workrate in the ring, but many guys will do a Finlay jig knowing that a set of TWINS is coming into the WWE Womens Division. The Bella Twins have been working developmental for a while now, and "Brie Bella" debuted on the Smackdown tapings.....SPOILER! Bri Bella vs Victoria - Bri Bella hit alot of flying snapmares, which is something I haven't seen before. Victoria also hit her standing moonsault in this. Bri at one point went under the ring, after escaping Victoria's hold of her feet. I'm not sure on this, but I believe she switched with her twin while under the ring. Pretty soon after she got into the ring, she cradled Victoria for the win. Here you go.

So the Torch is reporting that Gail Kim went running back to TNA's Dixie Carter with her tail between her legs, begging for something to be worked out. In sumnation, she never wanted to go, and does not want to go. Problem is, WWE has offered her THREE TIMES the money, so as it stands, she has no choice. So its in TNA's hands. If they toss some more money her way, she stays. She wants to remain TNA.

So Maryse and Michelle had a heck of a decent match on ECW this week. You know, the "agreement" that lets Smackdown and Raw talent just appear on the show for the Hell of it. Anyway, Maryse won in an upset with a great spike DDT. These two have had some really good matches together recently, and Maryse - although clumsy at times - has improved tenfold.

"Brie" has wrestled on 2 shows now. Pulling the under the ring switcheroo each time on Victoria, and cutting a backstage vignette with Maria last week, which will lead to a tag battle between Brie and Maria vs Natalya and Victoria on Friday.
She's energetic, and ok. I want to see how the dynamic of twins works. Especially with no "tag team" women action to speak of.

A must grab, if one is a fan of the TNA Knockouts. I stole this review, link below.
Review: TNA Wrestling Knocked Out
DVD REVIEW : TNA WRESTLING : KNOCKED OUT – Pro Wrestlings Greatest Women’s Division
Reviewed by : Steve “Rockamaniac” Wilson of MainEventRadio.com
There is no doubt that over the past 12 months, TNA has taken women’s wrestling to a whole new level with the addition of their Knockouts division and now the Knockout’s story is told in the latest TNA DVD release “Knocked Out : Pro Wrestling’s greatest women’s division”
Knocked Out is a fitting title for this DVD because for once, TNA knocked it out of the park when it comes to a solid DVD package. A nearly 3 and a half hour main feature accompanied with a special bonus disc featuring “Gail Kim’s Final TNA Interview” has finally taken TNA DVD production to another level.
The main feature offers interview segments with every member of the Knockout division , with the exception of Awesome Kong, who instead is covered by the other knockouts, each of them speak on their beginnings in the wrestling business, what the knockouts division has meant to them, why the knockouts division is better than the Divas, and even the personal stuff like their personal hobbies. Peppered throughout the interview segments is actual photo’s and video footage of the knockouts from their pre TNA days, which is something that TNA has only included on their DVD’s on the rare occasion.
Another improvement is the natural progression of the feature, Often on previous TNA DVD’s featuring interview segments you would be interrupted by a constantly repeating 5 seconds of music with a graphics board to introduce the next segment, this time however you have a smooth transition cutting with just a graphic board. For anyone who saw the original TNA Knockouts DVD from a few years ago this is no comparison as it blows the original out of the water and uses a very different format.
Also in the main feature is some of the best matches from the knockouts division over the past year, beginning with the obvious choice of the “match that started it all” the TNA knockouts battle royal from Bound For Glory 07 which crowned Gail Kim as the first ever Knockouts champion, Next up is Roxxi Laveaux vs Gail Kim vs Angel Williams vs ODB from Genesis 07, Then we have the two knockouts matches from Turning Point 07 in The Beautiful People vs Roxxi Laveaux/ODB, and the first battle between Awesome Kong & Gail Kim, which is followed up by their subsequent battles at Final Resolution and Impact in January of this year. The So Cal Val-Jay Lethal wedding from Slammiversary 08 is next up, followed by the Sacrifice 08 Knockouts Makeover Battle Royale in which the loser had her head shaved bald. The Lockdown Tag Team Grudge match between Gail Kim / ODB and Awesome Kong /Raisha Saeed as well as the Awesome Kong vs Taylor Wilde 25,000$ Challenge for the knockouts title from Impact wraps up the match lineup..
The DVD bonus disc features Gail Kim’s final TNA Interview, which is an audio only interview set to photos and videos of the knockout which was recorded on August 21st 2008 at 4:30pm, Running 3 minutes in length, Kim expresses that she has been debating with one of the hardest decisions of her life and had made the tough choice to leave the company. She goes onto speak of her favorite memories of her run in the company. There is obviously no mention of the WWE and why she chose to leave, and when I got the DVD, I wondered why a bonus disc hyping her departure was included, obviously it was added late in production thus the need for it to be on a second disc.
A bonus match is included on this disc as well as Gail Kim takes on Awesome Kong in a street fight on Impact. This would turn out to be her final match on television for TNA and keeping with wrestling tradition she goes out on her back, Whether or not she returns is unknown at this point but if she does depart to return to the WWE then this is a nice added touch to complete the package because the documentary portion does put over Kim often as a huge part of the success of the division and the impact she has had on those around her.
I’d definitely recommend picking this DVD up, its one of the best DVD’s ive seen from TNA. Recently it was announced that TNA was near completion of it fully featured and dedicated production studio, and if this DVD was any indication of where they are going then TNA has finally “crossed the line” into a major player in the wrestling dvd market.
“TNA Knocked Out : Pro Wrestling’s Greatest Women’s Division” will be available nationwide on October 7th , Check out your favourite DVD retailer to get your copy or head over to ShopTNA.com to order online. (Also Amazon has it up for pre order for only 12.99$ - It’s a steal at that price!)
