The Phillies are better than the Yankees this year, hands down. They are 3 innings from winning the World Series.
Get used to being in 3rd and not making the playoffs, because Boston and Tampa will be just as good next year, and our spending will give us nothing.
Also, the fact that this conversation is going on in the World Series thread is why I keep my visits to this site at a minimal. Take it to the Yankee section.

You think that the 2006 Cards were the best team that year, so you really can't judge.
And I didn't bring the Yanks up in this thread, so bitch at those that did.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with you Grover. I think the Yanks can EASILY be a playoff team next season.
Getting an OHHH-FOR-FOURTEEN performance out of Kennedy/Hughes STILL got the Yanks to the 4th best record.
I'm sure that whatever pitcher they throw money at next year can do better than 0-14.

Not to mention they should, in theory be able to make up some of the runs they stopped scoring with all the injuries. Between Jorge, Jeter, and ARod all missing significant time due to injury, and Giambi staying healthy, this team stunk it up at the plate.

OK...so if Moose gets 12 wins and some new pitcher gets 12 wins.....we're still 4 games better than last season.
Plus, Wang is back in the fold so there will be no reliance on people like Ponson and Rasner.

Ok, back to the World Series.
Good to see things picked up where they left off.

Wow, so much for the NL sucking. The Phils haded the Rays an steady counter punch on their way to a title.
While I don't like the city of Philadelphia having any fun, this will make Mets fans mad, so fuck it, we get some back for hearing 'Well I hate the Yankees so I want the Red Sox to win!' in 04 and 07.
Also, good for Charlie Manuel, who's a funny skipper with his big old belly.

Oh please. You can't possibly say that because one team had a good week that the entire NL is better than the AL. That's something a Met fan would say.
The Phillies earned it no doubt. But the NL still sucks, and they still over a 162 game season never would have made the playoffs if they played in the AL. It was a good WS overall.
The good news is that the Met fans are unhappy. The better news that the offseason begins and free agency will start soon.

You don't think the Phillies were better than the White Sox? I do. I still think Tampa and Boston are better overall, but Philly's pretty solid.

Balls - what's the point of having a World Series with that point of view? Is it truly that you place an asterisk on every World Series won by the NL?
* = World Series Champions, however they probably wouldn't have made the playoffs if they were in the AL.

This isn't 2006 where a team that MAYBE was the 10th best team in baseball (if that) got hot at the right time. The Phillies are a good team. But the AL is a better league, with stiffer competition. Stick them in the AL, and it's doubtful that they make it.
The NL will one day pull even and then even surpass the AL. But it hasn't happened yet.
The bottom line though is that they are the champs, and unlike the last NL team that won, they actually deserved it.

I get your point Balls...I really do. But seriously, to enhance your life as a sports fan, you have to suspend these sort of thoughts.
This line of thinking would completely destroy the magic of most playoff systems....especially something as exciting as the NCAA basketball tourney.
Your point pretty much negates the need for a playoff/championship "tournament" at the end of the season.

And don't get me wrong, I get your point too. I can accept Phily as the champs a lot easier than I could the Cards in 06, which was an utter joke.
It's not normal for one league to be this superior to the other. It won't last. But it's just currently the case. Usually the playoffs are fine. It's a flawed system, but usually the best team comes out on top. I just can't see that this Phillies team, if it played in the AL for 162 games, could have been one of the top 4 teams by record.
The baseball system though is funny. Sometimes teams are built to make the playoffs, but once they start, they aren't built to succeed in the playoffs. Other teams may have trouble making it, but once they get there, they are built to be devastating. The difference is usually a super duper ace pitcher for the team that win once they get there. And the team that can win the marathon but not the sprint usually feasts on the shitty pitching, but wilts under the big time pitching.

You know, I'm sick of you arguments in every thread. I wasn't even trying to debate you, I'm just talking about what all the pundits say.
Can we have a discussion without you injecting your morals and trying to give it your MetsSuckBalls stamp of fucking approval? Who fucking cares if this makes up for 06! Talks about the game! Talk about Jenkins getting a hit! Hamels pitching unreal in the playoffs! Talk about something else other than the way YOU think things should be.
I'm out. I can't take this fucking board anymore.

It's not my fault you ignore an entire season and make a ridiculous comment like "so much for the NL sucking," because one team had a good week.
Go whine about me in 39.
