Since there's like 5 different threads this could go into, I figured I'd start a new thread. I am not *specifically* taking about the Mets, the Cubs, the Dodgers, the Red Sox, or the Angels... What are your predictions? What series are you most interested in... etc... Clearly both AL series are of interest. I want to see Boston humiliated, but somehow I don't see it happening. I hope the Angels at least put up a fight. Boston in 4 Can Tampa actually advance? Do you want them to finally justify their existence? Does it matter who they play? I reserve comment on this series until after it is set. I would rather watch the Twins than the White Sox. [To be edited later] IMHO, Cubs v Dodgers will the series to watch. This will be the 5-game nail-biter. Hard to say who I really will be rooting for, because there are obviously some guys I really like in both clubhouses. World Championships that are 100 years apart woudl be kinda cool... but it would also be pretty cool to see Torre get another ring...oh, and Ted Lilly is the man. Cubbies in 5 + some extra innings ... Oh, and there is another series... the first one the Mets managed to fritter away a shot at... The Phillies do a really good job at winning fuck all, just like everyone else in that city of homo-lovin'. I hope the Brewers sweep them, just because they share the same property as those Chunky-soup-choking-on Eagles and the philthy Flyers. Milwaukee in 3

Ill have more to say in the upcoming days, but for now...
I wont watch one minute of the Boston / Angels series. Angels will probably take them, but I have no interest in seeing any Boston baseball.
As to Tampa, they deserve respect. They ALREADY justified their existance. Hell of a year this year. They should cruise past whoever snaps in from the Central.
I too have interest in the Cubs / Dodgers series. Cubs are a much better team, bottom line. Does that mean they will win? No. But I think they will. Dodgers snuck in.
Phillies / Brewers is another series I want to see. From watching the Brewers these last couple of days, they are not hitting. Even today the bats were dead. Thats a bad thing going in. Phillies will take the series. Oh, and Sabathia probably pitched his arm off. The magic wont last forever.

I'm very much interested in the NL match ups more than the AL. This is going to be a solid playoffs. The Rays are going to play some fun ball.
I'm very happy the Brewers are in.

I hope the Cubs take the Dodgers in 3. It's a disgrace that the Dodgers get to be in the playoffs. They were the 6th best team in the league.
Same deal with the Tampa Bay. I hope they win in 3 because their opponent, be it the Twins or White Sox, has no business there.
Obviously, I'm rooting for the Angels over Boston.
As for the Phils/Brewers, I think the Phillies should win, given that the Brewers pitching is a bit messed up right now, but I'll be rooting for Milwaukee. I just want the Dodgers, Red Sox, and AL Central winner out.

I see no sweeps in the NL. Sure the Dodgers sneaked in, but have been a solid team since getting Manny at the deadline. Cubs will beat them, but the Dodgers will put up a decent fight. Same for the Brewers and Phils. Phils will outlast them but the Brew Crew have some scrap. I would not be surprised if both went 5 games.
If the White Sox happen to sneak in, I think the Rays will slam them hard. That's a sinking boat no matter what. If the Twins get in, I expect a fantastic series which I see the Rays edging them in 5.
I can't really peg the Sox/Halos series. Sure I don't want the Sox to win, but did the Angels cool? The Sox got hot at the end but they seemed to cool enough to lose the division crown. Plus the Sox have always played the Angels well in the postseason. Still, I can see LA surviving a war here in 5.

Think about this....IF the Rays are to win the World Series (and they or the Dodgers are probably who I am pulling for at this point...although the Azul have ZERO chance) Florida major league baseball would have quite an impressive record of the past decade, yet no one, STILL, comes to the park.

Florida is a football state. If it's not The U/FU/FSU/Dolphins/Bucs/Jags no one cares.
Move one team to San Antonio, one team to Portland, and they will generate way more fans. But that's neither here nor there.
There are so many teams I wouldn't mind seeing win this year it's somewhat hard to pick.

Texas is also a football state...I don't think the Stros or the Rangers draw all that well either.

Yeah but there aren't so many out-of-state transplants in Texas, so at least they can fill the park. Houston draws decent numbers.

The fact that the Florida teams we are discussing played in two of the worst Stadiums in the major leagues has not helped anything.

That is true also. Both need a retractable roof Baseball park.

If Joe Torre wins a ring in L.A. this year.....wow.....shock waves through Yankeeland.
Not saying that it would make me, personally, retroactively change my happiness when he left, but people will be crawling out of the woodwork to say I told you so....even if they never told us so.

He won't win a ring this year. His team is nowhere near the best team still hanging around.

I heard Mike and Mike on ESPN (TV) this morning complaining about today's playoff game.
They were arguing that a coin flip should not have decided home field advantage for the play-IN game tonight between the Twins and White Sox, when the Twins won the season series 10-8.
All I could think of is the unjust aspect of this play-IN game at all, when the Twins won the season series...they should just BE the playoff team because they won the season series. And then Mike Golic addressed just that...and the good point he made was...AREN'T 18 games a better sample than a 1 game playoff?

I'm glad the White Sox won.
For some reason, although I harbor no hatred for them, the Twins annoy the shit outta me.

See, I have always had a soft spot for the Twins...
Anyway, my final pick is Tampa in 3

The White Sox are a better team, and add more legitimacy to the proceedings. The Twins had to go.
Tampa should smoke Chicago, though.

By the way, way for the TBS billboard trumpeting the playoff coverage thats splashed over Times Square to prominently feature one David Wright.

Really Tom?
See, I don't know what it is, but I'm STILL skeptical about the Rays....I still feel like it's that old Sesame Street Skit....

Charlie Steiner just said the stupidest thing....
"The beginning of the Dodgers renaissance this season began with the acquisition of Casey Blake"
HA! As if that stiff has done anything to get the Dodgers where they are. It was all Manny...the Dodgers would be EXACTLY where they are right now with or without Blake.

The Dodgers won 84 games. They suck. They are only in the playoffs because of where they play, not how good.
Hope they lose in 3.

Well, in fairness he simply said "THE BEGINNING OF..." - I agree that bringing in Blake was a good thing for the Dodgers. He added stability at the third sack, and popped 10 homers in 50 games of service. Its not like he said Blake got them into the playoffs.

"Hope they lose in 3."
And if they don't? Then what? If they buzz through the playoffs and beat everyone set before them...then what....you'll question the legitimacy of their championship?
They're HERE Balls. We know how YOU feel about it, but baseball DOESN'T feel that way...so no need to remind us about your geography tirade every time the word "Dodgers" appears here....who are you, Groucho Marx on You Bet Your Life?
With this attitude, you should NEVER be any kind of fan whatsoever of college basketball...because the NCAA Tournament (perhaps the greatest spectacle in American Sports) is predicated on everything you are against in terms of a playoff system.

Ryan Dempster is about to spit the bit.

Holy crap, I called it. Dempster walked bases loaded, and gives up a 2-out, 2-strike homer to James Loney.
